We are going to DLR this fall and are staying at DLH. Our friends are staying at GC. Our kids would love to swim together but completely get that it may not work as we're at different hotels.

Has anyone had luck meeting up with friends at another DLR hotel pool? I plan on asking when we check in but also just wanted to feel it out if anyone has done this before.

The answer is no. I don’t think DLR, unlike WDW, has ever allowed pool hopping. Generally, when the DLH pools are closed, they give access to PP’s pool - which is very underwhelming. PP gets to use DLH when their pool is closed. GCH gets to use DLH. Now. I’m sure there have been exceptions.

EDIT: as noted below, resort specific wristbands are now required at all three properties.

Don’t they usually check room keys and give out wrist bands at the pools now?

It is expensive, but you could use another pool by booking a cabana. We are staying at GC and have one reserved at DLH.
Oh that's a good idea! I kind of figured we couldn't make the pool thing work but thought I would ask. I'm definitely not shelling out the extra money for GC so they can swim together. I was surprised it was such a difference in price this trip.

You may be able to ask at the front desk if you could have guests join you for the day. We have been able to have family meet up with us at the Hotel before and they just added their names to our reservations for the day. There were only 3 family members though so it may depend on how many you are talking about.

Cabanas made me smile. I remember when Disney put them in the Magic Kingdom, with plans to add them to Disneyland park. I don’t think they ever did, but wow, cabana rental in a theme park lol…

They have cabanas in the theme park at Magic Kingdom? Where? Why?

I'll probably still try if the pools aren't packed. I don't want to add to chaos if it's really busy. It would be one kid and her parents joining the two kids with me.

I didn't realize they would let you do that! Did you have any issue doing it or did you just call and book it and let them know you were staying at GC but wanted a cabana at DLH?

I wonder if at certain times they don’t give them out?

DS went down to the DL pool and wasn’t given a band around 4:30 or so.

We did see people on the monorail the next day wearing them for DLH/VDH.

We did receive them when we switched over to VGC

We are going this August and they said it was fine. They ask for your Disney hotel reservation # when reserving the cabana, so they know where you are staying.

Good question. Some of the WDW hotels issue wrist bands only on select days. Maybe the same is true of DLR?

Frankly I’m surprised they require them at PP. very small, generic pool…

Last summer, we were given wrist bands when staying at GCH, and they were given at the towel station.

It seems like the wristbands are hit and miss. We haven't stayed at the DLH in years but at GC only get the wristbands sometimes. Maybe when it's busy?

I agree that’s probable. WDW issues them at select hotels but only occasionally. I’m thinking it’s the same policy.
