I am starting to plan our annual trip for this year. My DS will be 10yo. I know he is considered an 'adult' by Disney standards. He is a vey picky eater! He barely eats a kids meal! I don't think we will be getting the dining plan this year. Will he be able to order from the kids menu?

My older kids usually order off the kids menu with no problem. I wouldn't mind if we were charged a little more for their meals since the aren't under 10 but if they ordered off the adult menu, there would be a lot of wasted food.

It seems to vary by local and server. DD11 sometime wanted kids meals and only about half the places were willing to give them to her (and we did offer to pay more). She is big for her age and even at 8 or 9 we were given a ahrd time occasionally when she ordered kids' meals becuase they thought she was odler than 10 (why I carry a copy of her passport everywhere;) )

We have never had a problem ordering a childs meal for an child 10+ when paying OOP anywhere over the past several years.

I don't even have trouble ordering off a kids menu myself. I love mickey waffles. The portions are so huge anyhow. What kid is gonna (or should) eat 2 mickey waffles and 2 big sausage patties?

When I went with my niece, she was 10 but we said she was 9 even for the DDP because we knew she wasn't going to want to order anything but kids' food and it was all fine.

My question is: We are on the DDP my 10 year old is charged as an adult. Even though we pay the adult price for her can she still order off the kids menu? Sometimes she just doesn't like the adult selection. We don't mknd paying the extra because sometimes she eats the adult food.

I was curious abou this too because we will have a 10 yr old with us on our next trip. I found this thread here on the same subject (on the DDP board). :goodvibes

We have found that most places at WDW will go out of their way to please your children. DS was extreamly picky up until the last year or so and we have never had a problem.

Captain Jacks fixed him a pasta dish just the way he wanted it even though there was nothing like that on the menu. Le cellier altered his plate quite a bit as well. He has gotten larger servings of the kids meal food as well. On dinning plan there should be no change in cost but we have gotten chicken tenders and paid i think a $ a tender more to add one or two extra. Just ask politly for what you need and I doubt you will be denied.

This is my understanding of it:

Some of the places are buffets, and while some do have a specific "kid's section" your kid can pretty much eat what they want. Well, pretty much, but for most children, they'll pick a hot dog over steak anyway, the restaurant might balk at your 6-year-old in the steak line at the buffet but probably your kid isn't going to go there in the first place.

For the non-buffets, here's the bottom line. It's Disney, and they love your money. If you are on dining plan and paid adult price for your 10-year-old-- if you've basically "paid" for a steak dinner and your kid wants chicken nuggets-- Disney will be more than happy to do that. ;) Chicken nuggets are quite a bit cheaper than steak.

We have a 10-year-old too and I balked at paying adult price for him. However, since we first started planning, he's shot up 3 or 4 inches-- the beginning of that whole puberty thing and I'm freaking-- and by the end of May he very well could be eating us out of house and home. But he's not very adventurous with food, not yet anyway.

Thank you. I don't mind paying the extra, because at some restaurants she does order off the adult menu, but at some of the more exotic places she would just prefer achicken tenders or a hamburger.

For counter services, you could easily order off the children's menu. I would pay out of pocket for it, too, if you are on ddp. You could then use an adult qs credit to buy breakfast to share. :)

The 11yr old with us ordered from the kids menu at everyplace we went to. No questions asked. A few even pointed out that he had a choice of the adults or kids menu.
