Cam's New Lease on Life Journal (comments welcome!)

Thanks, Lisa

Lunch was rushed at noon and non-planned: lite yogurt (2), lite string cheese (1), no sugar added rice pudding (2).

Just back from court and my tummy thinks it should have had a real lunch by now. So I just ate some fat free pretzels (3), but I am sure I will be hitting up my food stash in the fridge -- just one of those days!

Not sure what dinner will be as I won't get home until after 9. UGH! Probably lite hot dogs on lite english muffins -- a personal favorite and cheap at 4 points! Lots of no sugar added bread & butter chips on top. YUM!

havent been around in awhile, but just wanted to pop in and say hi..promise i will be donig journals daily again soon!

Hi Cam,

Congrats on your great progress!
Your son sounds like a hoot, what a great email! LOL

Your trip is sooooo soon! I want to dance for ya but since I am very busy, I will send my friend "Mr Creepy Face!" !!!

:dancer: :dancer: :dancer: :dancer: :dancer: :dancer:
and his band...
:rockband:

Have a great night!!!
Mike :3dglasses

Jane E -- Thank you so much! Just hearing someone else "say" 49 pounds is kind of mind-blowing! :)

Jen -- Thanks for stopping by. I have missed you. Hope all is going well for you!

Mike -- Sorry you don't have time to dance. Bet we'd have a blast. But thanks so much for sending your creepy dancing guy friend ;) and that awesome rock band! I bet Andy and his friends look like that at camp, but you'd need to add that Pigpen cloud that definitely surrounds young boys when they are away from home and not forced to observe civilized hygiene habits on a regular basis! :rotfl2: I shudder to think of how many of his clean clothes (read: underwear) will come home unused! (insert scary shudder smiley here!). I really do think those counselors (much like college RAs) deserve medals and temporary sense of smell deprivation aids when they work with boys or young men! :teeth:

Well, yesterday's point total (had to use 2 FPs) demonstrates the hazards of not eating planned meals at normal hours and failing to carry a journal with me.
breakfast was fine -- 4 pts (ww english muffin sandwich)

lunch was not helpful -- 5 points that just tied me over and did nothing to satisfy or nourish; needed pretzels (2) mid afternoon to get me through.

ran home at one point during the evening to change out of heels and grabbed a 3 point fruit & nut bar

Dinner at 9:30 -- boca "meatless" meat lasagna -- delicious (5)

popcorn (4); no carb candy (3)

26 points total, and I woke up hungry today. UGH!

Today is better so far in that I expect to have real meals at somewhat normal times.
B: small sesame bagel with smidge of cream cheese (6)
L: lean cuisine sesame chicken (7)

I'll try to force myself to do another frozen dinner for dinner to "cap" the points I take in. Maybe my favorite chicken in peanut sauce over broccoli. YUM!

Okay, back to work for me.

Am hoping DS will call home tonight. I really, really do not want to get on that plane Friday morning without talking with him at camp. Maybe I will actually get to find out what he is doing with his time! :teeth:

Way to go on the 49 pounds!!!!

You are doing such a great job. Keep up the good work! :cheer2:

You are really sticking to your plan! You are going to be at your goal before you know it!! Keep up the great work!! :goodvibes

Cam you are doing so great!!!!! Good job on the weigh in and that total loss so far - you are awesome!!!! BRAVO!

I have to tell you a funny thing about kids, camp, and clothes. The first year my dd went to GS camp (the one she went to this summer but the first one was only for 5 days) I packed her bag. She came home, picked her and her friend up and she had her swimsuit on. I didn't think anything of it at first but then realized they had left at 7am that morning so there was no way she could have swam before they left - it would have been too cold. So I said something about it and her friend said "Well Mrs. Peddle, she wore her swimsuit the whole time. But she wore it in the shower one day so she could at least wash it." Talk about cracking up!!!!!! Good thing I didn't have anything to drink in my mouth. I was dying. She didn't know where I had packed her underwear (even though she saw me) and so she wore her swimsuit the whole time because she "couldn't find my underwear". So after that we have rolled her clothes and everything is in there for each day - pants, shirt, socks, underwear, bra. ROFL I do really hope he's having a great time!!!!!

Keep up the good work and I hope you have an AWESOME time at WDW with your friends. I doubt I'll get to check in with you tomorrow. Tell Mickey I'll see him in about 4 months!!!

Keep on
Chris

Hi, everyone! Well, as you can imagine, I am in quite the :sunny: mood today! I just have to get through this perfectly chaotic work day, an evening of "flag work" for DD's colorguard, and then "straight on 'til morning" when we head to the airport.

Lisa -- Thank you so much for stopping by my journal. I am sorry I haven't gotten to journals much lately -- I LOVE to hear about your VMK experiences. I am living vicariously to save myself from a new addiction. :teeth:

eeyore25 -- thank you so much for stopping by. Especially since it gives me a chance to see your cheat free count in your siggie and update your count on post one of our challenge thread. You are doing such an awesome job!

daisy 77 -- thank you for your optimism! They say you lose really fast at first and then it slows down, but I can't imagine my weight loss going any slower, so it is nice to think that SOMEDAY I WILL reach my goal! :) Actually, the oddest thing is that when I look in the mirror, there is a huge difference in my neck and my chest -- I can actually see my collarbone and the bones in the top of my chest, and I have had to buy all new unmentionables ;) And the bottom of the center bone of my ribcage is actually painful if I lean against my desk because there seems to be no fat there. And yet, the pounds aren't just dropping off and the lower half of my body is very slow to diminish in size even though almost all my exercise is lower-body oriented (walking, jogging, biking, elliptical cross-trainer) So, again, thanks for your encouragement. It really helps!

Chris -- that story about the bathing suit is sooo funny. I still remember the look of horror on DH's face (I am sure it was mirrored on mine) when DS-then-10's counselor told us two summers ago that his campers had literally not showered in 3 days because they felt that swimming in the lake every day substituted for a shower. It was only when he threatened them with having to take their stench and sleep outside that he could get his campers to shower with soap! :rotfl:

So, last night was another hungry night. Went home and made eggbeaters on lite english muffins (3) and 4 turkey meatballs with light sauce (5). Not bad, really, and I stayed within my points. The really good thing was that I ate and then headed upstairs to pack so I didn't hit the snack closet at all. I just took my tall Castaway Cay cup of ice water upstairs with me.

Didn't get breakfast this morning and will probably eat a fruit and nut bar in a little while to tide me over until I can go get something for lunch (hopefully, a big, point-free salad).

Working on flags tonight at school for a few hours, then home to meet our friends. DBF's husband is driving her down so we don't have to go get her. Then he and their son will leave, Judy and I will be giddy for as long as we can, and then will head into "one more sleep" before heading to the airport in the morning. Our flight is at 11 and I am not sure whether we should get there earlier or if we will actually have more leeway since Judy will be in a wheelchair. So we'll probably plan on getting there around 9 and settling in to wait at the gate. 25 hours and 10 minutes until takeoff! :Pinkbounc :cool1: I haven't had time to exercise at all this week, but I am hoping all the happy dancing counts for something!!! :teeth:

I probably won't get a chance to stop back here until Monday morning, but am carrying my journal with me so I can keep close track on what I eat this weekend. Hoping all my WISH friends have a very successful weekend.

You do have a busy day in sight. But once this day is over then TOMORROW IS DISNEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHOOOOHOOOOOOO I'm so excited for you and can't wait for you to get back to tell us about it Cam!!! Have a great trip.

Keep on
Chris

It's so nice to be back! Everyone's wishes for a great trip were hugely appreciated and really did the trick. Well, I have SO MUCH to record here. I guess I will do it in bits and pieces:

PART 1 -- FOOD MISSION ACCOMPLISHED (Here is my post from the cheat free challenge board about food this weekend and my quest to stay within my WW points):

So, it was a very challenging but satisfying weekend for me. My plan going in to it was to save all my FPs for the week to "spend" at WDW (I used only 2/35 in the days before the trip) and to walk a lot and briskly whenever possible to earn extra APs to spend on all the things I wanted to eat there.

Here is what I ate from the time we landed in Orlando until I went to sleep at home this morning at 1:40 a.m. (and I will tell you at the bottom how I did):
Food in WDW

FRIDAY – Beach Club Villas/Pleasure Island
D: Beaches and Cream (at Disney’s Beach Club) --grilled chicken sandwich on multi-grain roll, fruit cup, shared ½ order onion rings (actually we started them at dinner and ate the rest after arriving back from Pleasure Island at about 2 a.m.)

Late Night: Diet coke w/vanilla rum; Kungaloosh (mixed drink) –shared; Pamelia’s Punch (mixed drink) –shared

SATURDAY ---- Magic Kingdom/MGM Studios
B: ½ sesame bagel w/strawberry jam and fresh cut fruit (from Main Street Bakery)
S: fruit & nut granola bar
L: field greens w/strawberry vinegarette dressing; crab cake; succotash
S: 1/2 dole whip ice cream (chocolate & pineapple) with rainbow sprinkles
D: shared smoked turkey leg (in MGM at Toluca Turkey Leg Co.)
S: diet soda and a fruit & nut granola bar

Drank lots and lots of water

Sunday — Character breakfast at Cape May Cafe/EPCOT
B: Fresh fruit; 3 slices bacon; 2 mickey waffles; scrambled eggs w/veggies; ½ croissant; ½ of tiny piece veggie pizza; asparagus; coffee; ice water
L: EPCOT (China) – egg roll; fresh fruit
S: EPCOT (France) – 2/3 pastry
D: (airport) – turkey & cheese sandwich; snack mix & peanuts on plane
S: baked chps & fat free pretzels

So, that is it. As you can see I deprived myself of nothing We had a great time sharing food whenever we wanted something, so that I got to enjoy it without eating all those calories! I ended up using only 29.5 points Saturday (so I didn't even use all my APs -- pushing a wheelchair up and down the monorail ramps alone was a huge expenditure of calories! -- and all my FPs were still in place!). Sunday I used a whopping 43 points, so I used all my APs for that day and only about 10 FPs. There were SOOOO many things I might have eaten and didn't (cheeseburger and ice cream at Beaches and Cream; ghirardelli chocolate at downtown disney; pizza at pleasure island; pastries and cookies at Main Street Bakery; hot dogs at Casey's; cinnamon almonds at MK; a turkey leg all by myself; mickey or minnie bars; desserts at breakfast; mexican favorites at EPCOT, etc., etc.), and yet, it was such a pleasure to de-emphasize food and to enjoy each treat for itself.

Now, on to how everything is going.

I stepped on the scale Friday morning to see my pre-Disney weight, with the hope that the scale wouldn't be too much different by the time I came home. Much to my surprise, I was down another 1.5 pounds, bringing my total loss to 50.5 pounds! and my WISH loss to 32 pounds! That was just the boost I needed to maintain my commitment to this effort through the weekend. And, when I stepped on the scale this morning, I was thrilled to find I didn't gain at WDW. In fact, the scale was down a tad, though tomorrow is my regular WI day, and I'll see how I did this week overall.

Now for the trip--
All I can say is WOW! We had the most awesome time. We packed soooo much in those 49 hours at the WDW resort. Here is some of what we did:

checked in after 3 on Friday, and after changing rooms to have a wheelchair accessible room, we changed into bathing suits and cover ups. I gave Judy a short tour of the Beach Club resort and Stormalong Bay, and we headed to Beaches and Cream for dinner. After dinner, we went to the hot tub for a while. Then, back to the room for showers and cute, corny matching tee shirts for Pleasure Island :goodvibes

We took the wheelchair and took a bus from BC to Disney Marketplace, where we shopped for a short while. Then we walked along the waterfront where there was a great kids dockfront concert and made our way to Pleasure Island. We were pleasantly surprised to find that with my Premium Annual Pass, I got a complimentary guest pass, so Judy didn't have to pay to get in. We made our way to Adventurers' Club, where we proceeded to drink our way through 5 "shows" and had the most awesome time. What a great club! The actors are terrific and the theming there is so unique and fun!

When we finally dragged ourselves out of Adventurers' Club, we went to 8Trax for a while for some "dancing" -- we loved the music there! So many memories of high school and college dances and parties. Then off to a great show at the Comedy Warehouse. Then back to the BCV for late night snack of leftover onion rings (microwaved-- YUMMY ;o) ) We stayed up into the wee hours talking in the dark in bed and still somehow managed to drag ourselves up very early Saturday.

Saturday morning, we made it to the Magic Kingdom in plenty of time for the Opening Celebration, which I'd never seen before. It was so much fun. I am hoping I caught it all on my video clips on the digital camera to share with my family. We swappped the extra AK wheelchair that we'd borrowed at BCV for an ECV, went to City Hall for a Guest Assistance Pass, to the Emporium to replace my really good sunglasses that I'd lost at the hot tub the night before (before I'd even had a single drink!), then up to the castle for Cinderellabration. I "parked" Judy and went back to the Main Street Bakery for breakfast for us and we had an enjoyable breakfast with Cindy and her friends at her coronation.

After Cinderellabration, we went off on our mission to cover as much in the park as possible. Some of the highlights I remember are: Mickey's Philharmagic, Haunted Mansion, Peter Pan, Snow White, Tomorrowland Transit Authority, Space Mountain, Buzz Lightyear, Jungle Cruise, Tiki Room, etc., etc. We had a delicious lunch at Liberty Tree Tavern, did Hall of Presidents, and then saw Share a Dream Come True parade. After the parade, we did a couple more attractions, had Dole Whips, and then traded the ECV for another borrowed wheelchair with which we headed to MGM for a couple hours.

As we were leaving the MK, the skies were opening up and we made it to the monorail just in time to avoid a downpour. We arrived at MGM just in time for Voyage of the Little Mermaid and The Great Movie Ride. We decided to forgo Tower of Terror for a shared turkey leg, then headed back to MK. We were in the MK by about 8:15, got situated in a handicap viewing area, and then I ran to Casey's for soda and ice waters. Spectromagic was stunning, as always. I LOVE this parade and Judy was blown away. Judy described Spectromagic and WISHES as a spiritual experience, and I have to agree that all the magic came together in that hour for a sweet, unbeatable collection of memories to treasure.

We had fun with a little shoppping after the fireworks were over and then headed to Exposition Hall to look at our main street photos. They came out so great. Then, back to the BCV where I helped Judy get to the room with all our stuff, then headed to the front desk to check on the missing sunglasses status, get boarding passes, and ask a bunch of other questions.

We woke up early Sunday morning for a 7:30 breakfast with Minnie, Goofy, Chip and Dale at Cape May Cafe. The breakfast was good and the character interaction was excellent! They all spent a lot of time at our table, "chatting" and getting lots of pix and we had such a great, giggly time! After breakfast, we made our way to EPCOT through the International Gateway. Our mission was to get fastpasses for Soarin' and to get in the standby line. We rode it the first time in the second row and were completely utterly blown away by the experience. By the time we exited, we had only about a 10 minute wait before we could use our fastpasses to ride the first row. It was even better the second time when we knew what to pay attention to. What an awesome experience! We also did Ellen's Energy Adventure and the Space Lab stuff at Mission Space. I don't remember what else we did in Future World, but it was a lot of fun.

World Showcase is even more wonderful the more times you've done it, when you are willing to slow down and see the countries in more depth without trying to zip through all of them. We met a gorgeous woman in traditional garb in China and saw the acrobats there (what an amazingly talented group of children!) We got some food at the Chinese cafe and took it over to where we sat on the ground to watch the acrobats. It was such fun. We also got to see the drummers in Japan, and finally got to see Miyuki, the candy artist in Japan. This "show" is so unbelievable -- the woman is a true artist with a really sweet sensitivity to her audience. She did a squid for Judy and we took it to the crystal kiosk in Germany where a very very sweet CM named Catherina packed it so carefully for the trip home in a sturdy box. We also got to ride the friendship across the lagoon, and stopped in France for a shared pastry before walking back to the BCV to catch Magical Express.

There is sooo much more to tell, and I am sure I will remember it all eventually, but as you can see, the trip was absolutely excellent! I am so glad we didn't cancel or postpone when Judy broke her ankle. Disney makes it so easy to enjoy your experience regardless of your limitations. Everywhere we went, CMs and other guests went out of their way to help us in every way you can imagine, from carrying things for us to opening doors to insisting on helping Judy use the ramps, etc. on the buses so she could stay in the wheelchair instead of hobbling on her crutches. We had the best time and made memories to last a lifetime.

Glad your weekend was a success! And THRILLED the scale is still cooperating!

Have a great week!
