Cam's New Lease on Life Journal (comments welcome!)

Hey Cam--Just checking in to see how you WI went today....were you able to get there with the nasty weather you are having. If you got there, I hope it went well.

I really wish that more people would find these boards and read all the wonderful stories about the people that are here. There are people of all athletic abilities, all shapes and sizes, and they all have awesome stories. As a physical education teacher, I feel it is so important for people to be active. And all of the people on these boards have taken that step to lead a healthy active life. It is such an inspiration!!!

Hang in there with all this nasty weather! Hopefully, we don't get too much snow!!! I CAN'T WAIT FOR SPRING!!

Hi Cam,

I am a few days late, but none the less, CONGRATULATIONS on the 1 mile. That is awesome!!! You are doing such a great job. That is such a great milestone, I am only sorry that you can't share that with your close friend.

I have been missing for a while, but I a back now and ready to get this in gear!!!! Sorry for that

Keep up the great work. Hope WI went well!!!

Hi, everyone! I am sorry I have been MIA. It has been a miserable couple of days. I have been in the worst mood and have tried to spare those I love (especially my WISH friends! ) by not subjecting any of you to my moods.
I hung around at work the other night in the really bad weather until I could go to the meeting and then drove a particularly bad interstate exit to go home a route that would take me by my meeting center, but it was closed. I should have figured it would have been, but I had my heart set on weighing in. Since I didn't and since I've been a a terrible mood, I have been eating too much, though I was much better today.
The weather conditions were treacherous yesterday but I went in to my office for a couple hours, mostly to gather work to bring home. Getting in to work was a nightmare, but going home was so much worse. The ice had continued to come down for the couple hours I was in the office and the roads were rutted, so my car was being thrown all over the road and I spent about a quarter of a mile continually fishtailing with an idiot riding my bumper obviously cursing me out and commenting on women drivers while I glanced at him in my rearview mirror. Then, turning into my development, my car went up onto snow and went no further -- front and rear tires off the ground, with my car sitting on a snow & ice pile until 2 angels in a pickup truck (father and son with the greatest smiles and very generous nature) helped to get my car unstuck. I spent the rest of the day thanking God for their presence and asking His blessings upon them, since I had no other way to thank them.

Then, in the past two days we'd developed a virus on our home computerand it is so bad that I didnt' dare try to send any attachments to any of the people I was working with. I spent hours on the phone working on cases from home rather than editing documents and scanning them to people. Thank God, I was in my sweats and my always-makes-me-smile Hilton Head sweatshirt.

So, Valentine's Day was pretty uneventful. I'd baked mini heart shaped cakes the night before for my family, and DH took some to DD on campus for her and her roommate. Then yesterday, I cooked split pea soup and made DH and DS a nice pasta and meatball dinner which I proceeded to eat with them at about 8:30, to my calorie count's demise. I have been eating way too much the last couple of days, starting with the valentine's cakes I baked (yes, I finally succumbed to an unfrosted mini cake last night). UGH!

I thought today would be better with everyone cheerful at work after almost everyone had yesterday off, but I had to deal with the attitudes of staff members who RESENTED the three staff members who made it in yesterday. Some people just never showed up and never called their supervisors and they have attitudes about the fact that certain work got done yesterday!

Besides all this, I am definitely coming down with a cold -- sore throat, cough and fever -- but forced myself to go to the gym tonight. DH drove me to work this morning because the roads were too icy and when he picked me up, he and DS13 and I all went to the gym. I did 3.1 on the elliptical cross-trainer in less than 38 minutes and then did 5 miles on the bike in less than 25 minutes. So, at least I got a workout done, even if not too impressive.

I am having a rough time right now watching what I eat, but I am definitely trying and I think it is just the winter blues.

I really do appreciate all the support here. I just have to get back in the groove. Thanks, WISH buddies!

Cam, please be careful with this crazy weather. I'm glad your DH drove you to work. Here's :wizard: that the cold will go away quicky and take some time to take care of yourself too.:grouphug:

Good morning, Cam!!

It's a beautiful new tomorrow (please be careful in the snow and gucky weather) with a new chance of taking steps to who we want to be. Your angels found you at the right time and place *your car people* and your WISH buds are here to help you get back on track. Your workout sounds excellent. We got a new exercise place in town that I'm not quite sure about-I saw an armchair.

Take all the time you need to center yourself, take a "space and scream", but whenever you need us, we're here! :grouphug:

The cold isn't very fun, either. Stay warm!

Thank you so much, WISH friends!
Well, sparkpeople says my calories should max out at 1550 each day and I should be burning 222 calories 5x/week. I am burning more calories than that but have on several days eaten too many calories. I guess I am hoping the extra "burn" will still guarantee weight loss, but I really do have to rein myself in and not feel like exercising is a license to overeat.
Today has started out much like yesterday. I was very hungry for breakfast until I had coffee and then just had no desire to eat, especially since I have been using menthol cough/throat drops.

Those might be even more effective than mint gum, Jen!

Food today:
B: coffee w/skim milk
L: WW swedish meatball entree
Snacks: apples (2); banana

I noticed that since I've gone back to flex I have been not so diligent about the fruits & veggies and the healthy oils, so I really have to incorporate those things in my daily menus again.

We are eating with friends at PFChang's tomorrow, so I am going to have to do some advance planning to stay in control.

I really do have to rein myself in and not feel like exercising is a license to overeat.

I think i might be doing that Cam :sad2:
But it is nice not to have to worry quite so much if i feel like a 'treat' :rolleyes1

Please be carefull on the roads they sound really bad, i should send my DH to grit ;)
I'm sure the food cravings are definatly down to the winter blues, roll on spring :hippie:

It is so easy to get into the overeat habit, especially when exercising. It is a great idea to use fruits & veggies as your "go to" snack. That way you are eating more fruits and veggies, and not overeating.

Have fun at PFChangs. That is one of my favorite places.

Hi Cam--Just checking in to see how you are doing! I have been a MIA for a couple of days in checking in to see how everyone is doing. Sounds like you had a rough go of it in that storm the other day. Thankfully, I had a snow day or I would have probably had a similar experience as you, since I HATE driving in the snow/ice.

Hang in there with the food, always remember that you will have good days and bad and you will get back into a groove before you know it!

I hope you are feeling better, and not getting this awful cold that is going around! I have been feeling it for over two weeks and I am sick of it!!!

Enjoy the rest of the weekend!!

Hi, everyone! I haven't been around because we are having problems with our home computer and I've had migraine since Saturday and having problems with the DIS today. UGH!
My eating hasn't improved. I've been less than disciplined for a week and am determined to get back on plan. I have to switch back to core. Having so many options and falling back into the habit of using points for treats while using lowpoint and no-point foods for mealtimes is NOT the right way to go.

Weigh in is tomorrow night and I know I'll be disappointed and frustrated and angry with myself. But I will get over it and am already back on track.

I did 3.23 miles on Saturday but had to cut my TM session short because we were meeting friends up in NJ for the day.
I did:
.2 miles in 3 minutes (4.0 mph)
3.03 miles in 40 minutes
I forget what the pace comes out to but it would put my 5K time at just under 41 minutes which is a minute longer than I want.
I was fitted for new shoes Saturday and am hoping they will be better for running. The guy who fit me was very nice and very knowledgeable and extremely impressed about my Mickey medal. He says my current shoes are at least 1/2 size too small and that is why my toes are so injured. I am hoping he is right and these larger shoes will make a huge difference for me. Looking forward to getting to the gym to give them a go, but that won't happen until tomorrow night, and that is only if my migraine is gone.

Thanks for sticking with me, WISH friends. I'll get back on track and be more positive from now on, I promise.

 Cam,

I'm sorry to hear that you haven't been feeling well. I hope you are feeling better soon. Migraines are no fun at all!:headache: :sad2:

Keep on keeping on, Cam!:cheer2: We all have off program moments... You have been doing a great job with Core and exercising and I know that you will continue to do a great job!

Hope you have a great Tuesday!:cool1:

I really like that you are so honest with yourself. Thats always half the battle when I write a food journal. Somehow if I don't write it down I didn't eat it. NOT!

I always find Feb are hard month. Its cold and miserable and by now I'm longing for spring. I get so excited when the sun makes a puddle amist all the snow. I just know its close!

I'm glad you are getting back on track. You'll feel so much better without the guilt.

Hi Cam
I must be coming out in sympathy with you!!!
I've had a bad head since saturday!
Hope the new shoes are ok & i hope you get to test them out tomorrow :)

Thanks, dear WISH friends.

S: apple
L: home made bean soup; turkey burger w/onions & mushrooms (no bread)

Hi, everyone! Wanted to check back in to let you know I went to the gym to try out the new shoes. Still not completely sold on them, especially since most of my first 2 miles I had shin splints. Most of the first mile I had pain in the fronts of my thighs. I think these force my feet in a bit and change the alignment of my hips, which may be phsysiologically correct, but not sure my body likes it. Jury is still out. We'll see.
Here are my sparkpeople statistics for today:
calories recommended: 1200-1550
actual calories consumed: 1072
cardio daily total recommended 30 mins
cardio actual: 50 minutes
cardio calories burned recommended 222
actual cardio calories burned 472

Maybe it will give me a jumpstart to lose again. I have no desire to eat another bite tonight. Again, an example of core foods being very filling.

Dinner was 2 Dr. Praeger California veggie burgers and 1.5 cups total of kidney bean, corn & salsa mix. UGH, I am stuffed.
