Cam's New Lease on Life Journal (comments welcome!)

I'm sorry that you have a lot of stress right now. Your stress eating was not so bad though - No chips & dip or PB cups involved. Although the amount may not be great, except for the cookies, everything else was still reasonably ok. It is great that you can use a workout as a stress reliever. Here's :wizard: that you get to the gym today.

I hope the work stress improves soon! I know you weren't 'on core', but you still did very well considering. Hang in there!

I'm sure making it to the gym will help you and I hope you find some down time this weekend.

Have a great one!!

Hi Cam
hope your having a great stress free weekend :)
I watched 'Devil Wears Prada' om our flight over to wdw last year - good movie:)

I overate last night and convinced myself that going to the gym this morning would help me to burn off some of the excess calories.

I did did a 5 minute warmup at 4 mph (.33) and then 3.1 miles in 42:03 (pace 13:34 and 90 seconds faster than 5k PR). The best part of it was running for more than 4 minutes at 4.8 mph to the song "Unwritten" and more than 2 minutes on each jogging interval over the entire time.

Today's food:
pre-gym -- banana, decaf coffee w/skim milk
gym -- powerade/water mix (10 oz water)
post-gym -- ham, 2 hard-boiled eggs
lunch -- fat free cottage cheese w/diced peaches
dinner -- lean steak, grilled; baked potato (dry); tastes of chicken w/salsa & corn; whole wheat couscous
dessert -- baked multigrain chips & fat free pretzels (3 APs; 2 WPAs)

Hi Cam
Well i think you got back on track - well done :)
Makes me feel pretty ashamed -i've over ate the past 2 days & then went out for a 3 course dinner today & the waitress gave me TWO desserts!!:(

I overate last night and convinced myself that going to the gym this morning would help me to burn off some of the excess calories.

I've been there and done that too, Cam! You know what? You should be proud of yourself for doing that! Instead of turning to more comfort food, you turned to the gym. That is a VICTORY! Be sure and celebrate it!party:

Thank you so much for the post in my journal. My heart needed some words of encouragement and God sent them to me through you. Thank you so much, WISH sis!

Hope you have a wonderful week ahead!:goodvibes You are doing great!:thumbsup2

Oh, Tracy and Tracey -- you two are so wonderful. I am so blessed to have such steadfast WISH friends. Thank you for your kind words and encouragement. :grouphug:

Well, I didd not do wonderfully on food yesterday, but not too bad considering my APs from my workout yesterday morning.

Today was better. I stepped on the scale and saw I am only 1.1 pound up from my lowest ever in my adult life (since age 14) and I am determined to get below that this week.

Today's food was:
B: ham steak, broccoli & fat free cheese (avoided the bacon I made for DH and DS -- that was tough); coffee w/skim milk
L: apple
D: whole wheat pasta, green beans, rotisserie chicken (breast meat, no skin)
"dessert" (after workout to get in some essential oils and protein) -- very lean steak sauteed in olive oil w/leftover whole wheat couscous. Delicious!
real dessert -- frozen strawberries, skim milk, vanilla extract & sweetener in blender. Delicious!

I am still supposed to get in 1 more fat free milk serving and another F/V, but am just not hungry. I'll try to force myself to drink 8 oz skim milk before bed. Or maybe I'll make a milkshake with frozen strawberries and skim milk! Now, that sounds great!

Healthy Eating/Core Guidelines:
2 fat free dairy: :sunny: :sunny:
water (48 oz): 60 oz by 9:30
multi-vitamin:
fruits/veggies (5): :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:
healthy oils (2 tsp): :sunny: :sunny:

I went to the gym tonight and did:
5 minute warmup at 4.0 mph -- .33 miles
43 minutes of jogging and walking -- 3.13 miles (pace: 13:44)

----------------------------
ETA: made a strawberry "shake" before bed. Delicious! And it fulfilled my last fruit & fat free dairy requirements.

Food today:
B: banana; coffee w/skim milk
L: broccoli, whole wheat pasta & leftover rotisserie chicken tossed w/ff italian dressing; grapefruit
D: slice of ham steak w/fat free cheese & mustard; chicken breast w/corn & salsa
dessert: multi-grain chips & pretzels (I have to tell DH to hide these. Too much of a temptation)

Healthy Eating/Core Guidelines:
2 fat free dairy: :sunny: :sunny:
water (48 oz): 70 oz by 9:00

Wow Cam your food looks great & sounds yummy too :)
Those lb's should melt off this week :)

Wow, Cam! I'm so happy you are going to meet that milestone this week. You've come so far! Can you believe it?????

Turning to the gym instead of turning to more food was truly inspiring. I can't wait to someday get to meet you face to face & give you the real hug, not just a cyber one, that you deserve!

Thanks for hanging in there with me!

Have an awesome rest of the week!

Thank you so much, guys!

Tracy -- thank you for the

I can't add it to my signature because of the new guidelines, but I love that you thought of me!

Yesterday was NOT a good food day. I forgot to get in my healthy oils and was short one fruit/veggie. I took a snack upstairs with me when I went up to watch the Nora Roberts movie on Lifetime. I avoided the lite popcorn because I know my weight is always up the day after I eat it, but instead ate something that was not core and that I really didn't need. Even as I was putting it into a bowl, carrying it, eating it, I was asking myself what I was doing and why. The short answer was "I want it." I wasn't depressed or stressed or anything like that. I wasn't even hungry. I just plain old wanted it, even as I acknowledged I was potentially sabotaging my weigh in goal for tonight. And even then, I was thinking "this is real life. I am not going to go the rest of my life without eating the treats I want and if I want this, I am going to have it." And yet, I know myself. If I could have just NOT taken it up with me, and had resorted to the diet iced tea and the sugar free gum I had on my end table, I would have gotten past the desire/craving and would have felt good about having gotten past it. Instead, I am dealing with regret and frustration with myself.
Okay, I'll get past it, move on, and just hope the calories and sodium don't cause too much damage on the scale tonight. According to my scale, I'm only down .4 from last Tuesday morning on my home scale. I am hoping I can at least not go up today before WI and hope the same .4 loss shows up on the WW scale tonight.

Food today:
B: coffee w/skim milk; (no time for food)
L: green salad w/tuna in water w/olive oil
S: apple, 8 oz skim milk
S: banana (after weigh in, before gym)
D: chicken breast w/corn & salsa; whole wheat pasta w/diced tomatoes
dessert: 94% FF popcorn

Healthy Eating/Core Guidelines:
2 fat free dairy: :sunny:
water (48 oz): 105 oz by 9:15 p.m (help me, I'm FLOATING . .. . . . )
multi-vitamin: :sunny:
fruits/veggies (5): :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:
healthy oils (2 tsp): :sunny: :sunny:

5:10 pm -- the current plan is to go to WW meeting that starts at 7 and then head to the gym. Hopefully, any depression I feel over the WI will be wiped away with some great music while I'm on the TM.

Hi Cam
You've gotta have a treat sometimes, hope the wi went well :)
Todays food looks great :)
Have a lovely week!

HI Cam, you are doing so great with your eating. Even when you have a treat, you get right back on track. Also your exercise is going great. You are going to have a fabulous 5k and set a new PR, I'm sure!

Here's :wizard: that you have a good WI tonight. What an accomplishment to be so close to your lowest adult weight.

Thanks, Tracy & Anna!
WI tonight was not as great as I would have liked, but at least I was down -- 1.2 loss. Seeing that really low number on the scale earlier in the week really makes me NEED to see it again. Hoping to break through that "floor" next week. So close and yet . . .nah, not going to say that. Totally do-able.

Worked on my 5k at the gym again tonight. 41:35 tonight. Just about 2 minutes less than my PR of 43:33. 4 1/2 weeks to go until race day. Looking to significantly improve.

Sunday is the Polar Bear Plunge for Special Olympics Delaware. I think the air temp is supposed to be 26 degrees F and the wind chill 17 or something like that. It is right about this time each year that I begin to doubt my sanity. Then I think of all the amazing work Special Olympics does on behalf of some of our most challenged citizens, and how can I NOT do whatever I can to raise money and awareness, right? :goodvibes: Wish I could say I am looking forward to the polar bear plunge but, uhhhmmmmm, no. ;) The crowds and comaraderie, YES! The part where you submerge your body in the Atlantic Ocean in February -- NO!

I allowed myself a small "treat" last night -- 3 mini fat free pretzels and 2 baked multi-grain tortilla chips. I felt very satisfied but no regret, since it was such a small amount and very controlled.

Food today:
B: coffee w/skim milk; fat free plain yogurt w/strawberries & sweet'nlow (at noon)
S: banana
L: green salad w/chicken breast
S: popcorn
D: diced ham; shrimp; tastes of homemade lentil soup

Healthy Eating/Core Guidelines:
2 fat free dairy: :sunny: :sunny:
water (48 oz): 60 oz by 4:30 p.m.
multi-vitamin: :sunny:
fruits/veggies (5): :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:
healthy oils (2 tsp): :sunny: :sunny:

4:30 pm -- How cool! Done all my daily healthy eating requirements. :woohoo: Not that I don't have to eat healthy for the rest of the day. I just don't have to figure out how to get certain things in, like fat free dairy servings or healthy oils.

Hi Cam, Awesome recovery! I just read your amazing story and am going to take your energy to the gym with me today. Keep up the good work!
Carole

Thank you so much, Carole! Looking forward to getting to know you and to "training together"! :goodvibes:

Well Cam,
I took your energy to the gym but the power went out. Literally. A transformer blew and the gym was affected. Guess I'll try again tomorrow.
I'm coming back from a disability too. Last year I could only walk a block before pain would stop me. I had osteoarthritis in my ankle -end stage. I had been in pain for 10 years. I finally had an ankle fusion which meant 6 weeks of no weightbearing and then relearning to walk with my new fixed ankle. I did well Cam. And by 7 months I started going to the gym. Just started with 4 minutes on the treadmill. And I increased by one minute each visit. I got up to 45 minutes on my last visit. And I have NO PAIN!!!!! Life for me is full of hope now. My goal is to walk a marathon someday or at least a half marathon. I'll never run and thats OK. I just want to feel the achievement of crossing that finish line. Now I realize its going to take me a long time to work up to this and thats OK too. The joy will in the training.
Stay positive.
