Cam's New Lease on Life Journal (comments welcome!)

Ugh, migraines are the worst. I'm sorry you had to go through that. :(

I hope DDs band did well!! How much longer do you have in the season?

I think planning for Disney is a great motivator. Have fun making your plans!

Have a good week Cam!!

Amanda – I am so glad you have found some relief from your migraines. I had been taking ultram every day as a baseline drug to prevent them and then would use amerge if I felt one coming on. But I had been doing so well that I stopped the drugs completely. This headache came out of the blue and knocked me for a loop. I am doing so much better now, though, thank God!

Mike – Thanks for your support! The new clippie is to remind me of the huge commitment I have made to myself to run/walk the Disneyland Inaugural Half Marathon in September. Still can’t believe we signed up already. And we are excited because we have never been to the west coast. It will keep me on track with my weight loss and training after the January ½.

Jen – Thanks for stopping by! I have been missing you. I hope everything is going great with school. Isn’t your friend coming back from Iraq soon? I have been thinking of you and of him. Hope all is well.

Hi, Heather! Jenn’s band competed in Atlantic Coast Championships on Saturday night and ended up in 24th place. I know they had hoped to move up in rankings, but a week before that no one even thought they’d make it to championships since they only take the top 25 out of 9 states. Jen was so pleased with her final competition performance, though she was crying afterwards, knowing it was her last. They will perform at a few more football games since our team made state finals, but her competition career is over.

Hmmm. .. So much to report. Migraine is pretty much gone, although the paint and new carpet fumes in my office are not helping. The weekend was wonderful with lots of high spots.

DS12 saw the orthodontist for the first time and they can finally start to work on his mouth. We go on 12/9 to discuss the plan of action. I am glad it isn’t until then, so he can go through All State chorus auditions this weekend without any new hardware in his mouth.

DH and I had good training sessions Saturday. As long as we can continue to carve out time to train, we are on track to be ready for 1/7/06.

DD’s competition was very satisfying for her, but I am sure she is sad that she is not doing competitive colorguard this winter and this was really "it" until college auditions in the spring. We got home at 4:45 a.m. Sunday morning due to the competition schedule and some issues with one of the buses getting back to the school, so we were all zombies yesterday.

Andy sang at Memorial Mass yesterday and did all the percussion for the liturgy as well. It was wonderful. Then he had his end of season cross country party last night to celebrate their championship. He and Howard are sporting their championship hoodies today, but I couldn’t wear mine to work. BooHoo! Looking forward to showing that off all over town on some cold weekends! He went right from his party to play practice. Friday is opening night, so this week will be insanely busy with rehearsals every single day. Very excited to see him carry a very large part in this play. It is called "The Baseball Show" and is a lot of vignettes with a huge ensemble cast. In his major part, he plays an "aging" catcher and has a very impressive monologue. I am so proud of him!

The most exciting news after this weekend is that Jenn is going to Europe next summer! I am so proud that she was nominated for American Music Abroad again this year. And after talking with the directors, we decided that she could go as a flutist instead of as part of the dance team that they call colorguard (so NOT her/our thing). So, she’ll be going to Italy, Germany, France and Norway, I believe, though I have to check the schedule. I am particularly envious that she is going to Venice. Still can’t believe we are going to let her do this, but I won’t get really nervous about it until it gets closer!

Well, back to work for me. Am hoping to be disciplined with food today, since the scale is going in the right direction again. Tomorrow is official WI day, but I think I will finally be claiming the 40 # WISH clippie and may even hit the 60## total lost by the end of the week!

B (at 8:00 a.m.) -- small bagel (3) w/grilled chicken breast (2)
L (at 1:15 pm) -- 1 cup cooked pasta (4); steamed veggies; tomato basil soup (2)
S (at 4:30 pm) -- pretzel crisps (3)
D (at 8:45, after training walk) -- cauliflower, 1 slice light bread (.5); boneless pork chop (3); small chicken breast (2); bite of cake (1); 2 sugar free chocolates (2); mini peanut chew & mini butterfinger crisp (3)

Is it really only Tuesday? I am exhausted! ;) I didn't get home last night until about 7:30, and then Howard and I went out to do my 50 minute walk. It was nice to have his company, even if he was singing to his ipod at the top of his lungs and cracking me up! :rotfl:

Finally got my 40 pound clippie this morning! Am still confident I will hit 60 pounds total this week. Really want to do it before we head to HH for Thanksgiving, though I think I can do okay down there exercise- and food-wise.

Proud of myself this morning because I didn't eat the bagel with cream cheese I bought for breakfast. I was looking forward to it, but then realized the bagel was toasted. Took 2 bites, decided not to waste the points, and threw the rest away. Will find something else to eat.
B: fiber yogurt w/kashi (1); apple with peanut butter (3)
S: weight control oatmeal (3)
L: tomato basil soup (2) with cauliflower (0); lite turkey on 2 lite tortillas (4)

Yeah, Cam!
:thewave: :jumping1:
Congrats on your 40 pound clippie! It looks mighty good on you! :smooth:

Have a wonderful Tuesday! :sunny:

Thank you, Tracy & Amanda! You guys are the BEST! :lovestruc

I bet if I hadn't eaten all that candy last night and hadn't eaten dinner as late as I did, I'd be "that" much closer to my 60## overall! Only 1.5 to go. Maybe by Friday?

My little surgical procedure is Thursday. The "ugly spot" (Howard calls it a beauty mark and swears he'll miss it) is on the right side of my lower back/waist. Not sure yet how many stitches there'll be, only that the area will be 2.5 - 3" diameter and will have internal and external stitches. Have to keep them dry for 24 hours and then I should be back in business.

Hoping I'll feel okay for Jenn's band banquet Thursday night -- they are doing senior recognition and I don't want to miss it. I'm expecting it will be very emotional for all of us senior parents who have gotten so involved over the past 4 marching band seasons. Howard will be attending Andy's Boy Scout Court of Honor. We are each sorry to miss an event, but thank God there are two of us and only 2 kids! ;) Anyway, I definitely can't do my training walk and speed drill Thursday night, so I may try to shift them to tomorrow night or get them done in the wee hours of Thursday morning. UGH!

Hi Cam!!

I hope that your procedure goes well and that you definitely feel better in time for Jenn's banquet! I am sure you will be very proud regards of any pain you're in! hehe ;) Thanks as always for your support!

Have a great day and keep up the great work!

Congratulations on that beautiful 4 pound clippie. It looks wonderful on you. I hope the procedure went well, and that you are not in any pain. Baby yourself a little bit, and enjoy the banque tomorrow. You will be so proud of your not-so-little girl.

Hi Cam!!!! Congrats to you. You are doing such a great job. Keep up the good work.

I hope you have a wonderful Friday and a fantastic weekend!

Hi Cam-

I don't think I've been by here since you got that new clippie. YAY for you!!!! :cool1: I am really impressed with all the hard work you are doing for the marathon. Good for you!

Congrats to your DD and the band on doing so well. It is a little sad that she's had her last perfomance but she's going to have great memories. Is this the same DD who plays the flute? It's so exciting that she's getting the opportunity to go Europe!

Hey Cam~

How are you doing? How did your procedure go? I hope you are doing well! :goodvibes

Have a wonderful day today and a very Happy Thanksgiving! :goodvibes

Gentle

How are you doing, sweetie. I'm thinking about you.

Have a great holiday.
Take care of yourself,
Beth

Thanks so much, everyone. I really, really appreciate your support. It has been a rough week and a half and I have been self-medicating with food, I think.

Losing my "second Mom" so suddenly and unexpectedly really put me in a depression, even while I could kind of watch myself from a distance and it seemed like I was just going on as usual. She died on November 16 and the funeral was 11/18. I didn't have my procedure done on 11/17 (thanks for asking, Mike, Jen, Beth & Chris) because I knew I'd be out of work that Friday and couldn't miss that much time. I'll have to re-schedule it for January (after the 1/2).

Right after the funeral we returned home and had some happy times with DS12's school play -- he did an awesome job on his "soliloquy" but we also had two nights of late night trips to diners/burger places with the cast to "celebrate". UGH!

I did okay Friday night with ordering grilled chicken over a garden salad, but shared a vanilla malt with DS.

Saturday I did okay with a weight watchers lunch, but then chinese buffet for dinner (the only fried things I ate were the eggroll and 1/2 piece of sweet and sour chicken), so at least I am glad of some "smart choices". At 11 that night, however, DD and I were sharing a bowl of NE clam chowder and then the waitress brought us a small hot fudge sundae with walnuts that she'd made by mistake -- delicious but decadent. I had been craving either italian rum cake or tiramisu or cheesecake and almost ordered that, too, but was able to resist. We'd gone to the gym that day, so it was definitely a "hungry day" for me.

Sunday I was at work all day and ate okay, but then went to see HP and I ate way too much popcorn (should have had real food for dinner instead!).

Last week went bad about 3 hours into our trip south when I started munching on whatever I wanted -- again the choices weren't bad (most of our group did McDonalds for dinner and I did a veggie max sub at Subway instead) and I munched on fat free pringles and unsalted pretzels, but still. . . . the quantities were out of control.

Our four days in Hilton Head were exactly what we needed to rejuvenate and the kids love it there -- it is their favorite place in the world. Some of the highlights were: a DIS meet Wednesday night at Surfmen's Station (too much good food! and lots of GREAT company!); watching football on the beach on Thanksgiving, our favorite pizza place and a movie (Yours, Mine and Ours) with friends Friday night, and our favorite seafood restaurant and time in the hot tub with friends Saturday night. Oh, yeah, one more highlight -- fun new clothes as a result of shopping on black friday, including Lauren (14W) and Tommy jeans (plain old 16!) in smaller sizes, and two gorgeous new Tommy sweaters in size XL! I won't be able to shop in the women's department next time I need new clothes!

So, even while I was overeating, I was thinking about how much progress I've made and asking myself why I was making bad choices that would cause me to gain weight. Somehow, I kept thinking -- "I want this food and I'll be good when I get home." I know this is not the smart way to think, but I really was not willing to sacrifice at all. I think I am too happy with the progress I have made so far, if that makes any sense. :confused3 I have to stop being content and get back to having a strong desire to accomplish more.

My plan is really buckle down to train hard for the 1/2 and to really concentrate on losing these last 10-13 pounds (not sure how much damage I did over vacation :guilty: ), to get to the goal weight I want to be at for the 1/2. I have to think of my body as a tool to complete an endurance event and I really have to stop thinking of food as anything other than fuel. So, starting fresh today. I think that once I weigh in tomorrow, I will add a new ticker to my siggie to remind me of the goal for the 1/2. I am also going to get back to journaling every single bite I eat, which I have not done for about 6 days. :rolleyes1

Glad that you had a nice break Cam!!!! We are going to HH in April for Easter and I so can't wait to go. We really enjoyed our one day visit a few years ago and absolutely fell in love with the place.

You have made the commitments and the recognitions of where you are and what you need to do - that is the thing to do and then you will get there.

I tend to do the same thing with food when I'm on vacation - if I want it, I have it. But I also need to make sure and tell myself that I can't always have it - especially when we are in Disney in a few weeks. That's going to be my try test!!!!

Go for all you can Cam - I know you can do it!

Keep on
Chris

Thank you, Chris! I really appreciate your support!

Well, I did okay for the first day back on plan:
B: 2 small lite cheese omelettes (3)
L: WW santa fe style rice & beans (6)
lite tortilla (2)
pretzel crisps (2)
S: pretzel crisps (1)
D: corn (2)
turkey burger (3)
salsa (0)
Dessert: tootsie roll (1)
Slim Fast Optima Peanut Butter Crunch bar (3)

Did 60 minutes of the FIRM workouts tonight. One was ab sculpt and then another was cardio sculpt and I only did 30 minutes of it. The moves weren't as hard as I feared and I will look forward to gettting better at them. I really liked this one salsa step combination using the fanny lifter and I would love to get that choreography down pat. I have no idea how many APs I earned, but I'll figure something out. As it is, I have plenty of points for dessert and will choose something I really want since another night I might not have the points.

Oh, and I have to work on my water. I am at 57 oz, which is considerably less than I am used to. I'll try to get in a bit more before bed.
