Cam's New Lease on Life Journal (comments welcome!)

Hi Cam,

Sorry to hear that the WP didn't work out...but you have to listen to your body. You will do great back on the regular WW plan....you have done great so far!!!!

Keep up the great work!!! Happy Tuesday :)

I think I'll do better overall if I get back to journaling here. The feedback helps a lot, too.

Got up this morning and was out by 6:55 after stretching, and went to the state park for a long wog. Did 8 miles in about 2 hours and 5 minutes but that included dealing with ipod issues and gravel in my shoes and talking to a friend on the phone (thanks for keeping me company for that mile, Liz! ), so I am not too upset that it was over my 15 minute pace (15:38). Oh, and that included a casual warm up of 5 minutes. So, I guess it really wasn't as bad as I thought.

Had a slice of veggie-heaped pizza last night for dinner and shared a slice of cheese with DH. It was great and I didn't feel stuffed.

We'll go out for a pasta dinner tonight for DH's carb load for his 1/2 marathon tomorrow, so I am already looking forward to lots of salad and then some whole wheat pasta with arrabiata sauce. YUM!

Food so far today:
6:30 - 9:00 a.m. before and during training: bite of snickers marathon bar and 3 cliff shots (2 pts)
10:00 - 11:00 am breakfast: turkey, lettuce & tomato on whole wheat with honey mustard (5 pts)

not even going to talk about the scale.

Just realized how little I exercised this week -- a 6 mile wog on Sunday, 50 minutes strength training Tuesday night, and 8 mile wog today. Need to get going.

Hi Cam-
Sorry i havent been around , but i think that you are doing great..
how was DH's half marathon?

by the way , i hate the scale too ! :)
have a great night!

Hey Cam-

I'm sorry the WP didn't work for you. I saw some book on Dr. Phil about metabolism - written by his nutrition expert. I'm thinking about looking into it. It's probably on his website if you are interested.

I am SO impressed by you getting up so early on a Saturday morning to workout. You are amazing, no matter what that scale says!!!

You're doing GREAT, Cam!

I hear you about the journaling. It helps but sometimes it's SO HARD.

You 8 mi pace was good, especially with the distractions.

I was plotting out a route for a longer walk, but then had to stop the car to let NINE coyotes cross. I think I need a different route!

Hope you're having a good week.

Hi Cam,

Your run was great even with everything that you had going on....

You are doing a great job. Keep up the awesome work!!!

Happy hump day!

Jamie, Heather, Julie and Jen -- Thank you so much for visiting my journal and providing so much support! I really appreciate it.

Jen-- DH's 1/2 marathon went really well, even in the torrential rain at the start. He was thrilled to finish just under 2 hours!!!! Now he will turn to training for the Delaware Marathon on 5/21.

Heather -- I am convinced that my body doesn't follow any of the rules. Even this morning my doctor told me I have always been an anomaly. ;)

Julie -- I cannot believe you have to worry about coyotes. I agree you definitely need to find a new route. The funny thing is that you are the second person I have heard encountering coyotes in the past week. Liz (lizdotcom99) actually encountered one in person on one of her walks last week.

So, things have been interesting. Life is insane with DS12 having rehearsals 4 nights a week. DD17 has made a couple of "teenage" type bad decisions recently, the most recent of which has resulted in us cancelling her participation in a 15 day trip to Europe this summer. UGH! Toughest decision we've ever had to make as parents. We are still also in the very stressful time period of waiting to hear from her formerly first choice university some time next week and then she'll have to decide where she is going to school.

I had been meaning to journal here but with time limited I have stuck to journaling in my WW journal. Interesting developments, though. After an extremely high points week (finished the week with literally one FP left and having used every single activity point earned), I dropped 2.6 pounds from last Wednesday to yesterday! :confused3 Then, I dropped another .6 pounds from yesterday morning to this morning. I truly do not get it, but am hoping I can keep moving in the right direction. The net effect of all of this is that I am finally lower than I have been since mid-December when the taper for the 1/2 marathon resulted in me gaining a couple of pounds and then just never getting those off again. And I think I am now within "striking distance" of my goal for the Minnie. 8.9 pounds in 7 weeks doesn't seem too out of reach.

Let's see, what else? Oh, I bought a really cute New Balance running outfit of a running skirt with bike shorts underneath and a cute top. I definitely would NOT be seen in public in it right now, but in another 10 pounds -- definitely! :)

Food today --
B: coffee w/creamer; lite english muffin w/lite turkey; apple (4)
L: salad with light turkey and fat free dressing and light string cheese (4)

Tonight I am hosting a dinner in honor of my friend and former partner and I am glad to have been the person who chose the menu. The hors d'euvres are mostly WW friendly and I ordered a cheese and fruit platter. Think I'll do crab cakes for dinner. As long as I am good until dinner time, I should be able to stay within my points.

Hey Cam!! Sorry I haven't checked in lately. It sounds like you are still doing well. Sorry to hear about all the stress in your life, but I know you can handle it!! Enjoy the dinner you are throwing and we should catch up soon!!

:wave2: Hi Cam - another one who hasn't checked in in a long time but I'm glad to see that you are still doing well. It's nice to know, I'm sure, that you can try various programs and then go to what works best for you and your lifestyle. Keep up the good work and hang in there. You're doing great and are keeping up with this and that's what's important!

Keep on   and :woohoo: :woohoo:
Chris

Cam-Congrats to you DH, i bet he was happy!!!!!!

you sound to be doing really well--i bet you will reach your goal, it is certainly in reach now! congrats on the loss--ive had those weeks that i dont know HOW i lost but it sure is nice :)
Have a great weekend!

Hi Cam! Just stopping by to say that you're doing GREAT!

Keep up the great work! :thumbsup2

Hey Cam!

Congrats on the recent weight loss!! :yay: Whatever you did, it worked. :teeth:

Rules, shmules, right? You have such a good attitude about it though. You tried something and it didn't work out the way you hoped, but that was ok because you didn't let it set you back. And now you have lost despite the experiment, so it's all good!! :cool1:

Amanda, Chris, Kim, Jen, Heather -- Thank you so much for your support. I am telling you, some days, it is only the thought of my WISH buddies and your support that gets me through the day with some modicum of success. :grouphug: I don't know what I would do without you!

Wow, let's see, where to start? Maybe chronologically is the best.

The dinner last Thursday night was wonderful. I ate everything I wanted to eat and used a huge chunk of flex points. I am still astonished to have ordered dessert -- pumpkin creme brulee -- but am glad I did. No regrets, right?

Saturday I did a 5K and my time was 43:33, which meant I met my goal of a sub-45 minute finish. Here is my entry from Saturday:

Back from my 5K. Finished in 43:33, my new PR. So, far my 5K record is:
DATE-----TIME-----PACE
3/5/05-----54:40-----17:36
3/19/05 ---51:42 --- 16:41
7/4/05-----50:12-----16:09
7/23/05-----49:47-----16:01
9/3/05-----47:24-----15:15
9/18/05-----46:21-----14:55
9/28/05 -----46:55 ----15:08
3/18/06 ------43:33 ----14:01

I really have to get back on track with my training since the Women Run the World 15K is about 6.5 weeks away!

Oh, and Saturday night we went out to dinner with friends and I had the most delicious pecan crusted tilapia over rice pilaf and then had strawberry shortcake for dessert (I wonder if I can count that as a fruit -- strawberries and a dairy -- fresh whipped cream?) !

So, at least the scale hasn't been leaping with my recent splurges. And maybe my body will even start to drop some pounds if I cut back now to eating the WW way. My goal is still to lose these 9.4 pounds before the 15K. It would be so nice to feel like I have accomplished that significant feat.

This weekend will present all kinds of challenges -- dinner at a pizza place Friday night before bowling with friends. Lunch and dinner in Atlantic City with friends Saturday (dinner at Carmines -- Italian-- UGH! Bring on the garden salad, please!). Brunch with friends on Sunday. The best course of action, I think, is to stay strictly within points between now and Friday dinner and save all flex points for those 3 or 4 tempting meals. Also, to build up as many activity points as possible.

Food today:
B: lite turkey on light english muffin; coffee with sugar free creamer & coffee w/regular creamer (4)
L: garden salad with grilled chicken (3); kavli slices (2)
D:grilled chicken; turkey burger w/ff ch on lite EM; LC panini (12)
S: GORP (3); 100 calorie pack of cookies (2); apple (1)

The scale was down .7 this week (love my WW scale that measures in tenths!) which is surprising considering how little I exercised and how much I ate. Still have 8.8 to go before I leave for the Minnie 15K on 5/5. 8.8 in 6 weeks is unheard of for me. I can't remember the last time I saw 1.5 a week for a few weeks in a row, but according to my WW journal, it hasn't happened since late February-early March of 2005 and then it was only for 3 weeks. UGH!
Well, let's go. Any pound lost is one less I have to carry 9.3 miles, right?! :teeth:

Food today:
B: turkey on lite english muffin (3); decaf coffee (1); 20 oz of water by 10:25 am
L: green salad w/snap peas, artichokes, tomatoes & cucumbers (0); diet coke (0)
S (at 4:00): special k bar (2)
D: green salad w/grilled chicken & lf dressing (4); turkey burger w/ff ch on lite EMs (7.5); 6 oz baked fries (5)
Snacks: small apple (.5); gorp w/honey wheat pretzels (4)

I earned 5 APs with 10 minutes jogging; 20 minutes TM at 4.2 mph; 30 minutes bike

Glad the scale is cooperating!!

Which WW scale do you have?? When they first came out I bought 1 and ended up exchanging 3x before returning because the weights were all over the place - up or down up to about 5 lbs w/in a couple of minutes. I'd love to find one that is accurate.

Hope you're having a good week!

Thanks, Julie! It is the WW electronic scale that has a memory, so that you can keep track of your starting weight, your last weight, and your goal weight. It can keep track of all of that for more than one user, too. I, however, do not use any of those features because there is no password or anything like that and other members of my family use the scale too, and I am just not ready to have anyone know how much I weigh or how much I used to weigh. The precision is amazing, though. No changes in the weight and there is a little dot that comes on on the display to indicate if you are not centered on the scale the right way, so that there are no fluctuations based on where you are standing.

Yesterday went pretty well because I earned enough APs to allow me to eat whatever I wanted last night.

I started today with a power bagel with fat free cream cheese (10 pts!), so I will have to be very careful to avoid using any FPs. I am committed to saving the FPs for this weekend, though, so I have to stay on track.

Yesterday's food:
B: power bagel w/ff cc (10 -- just guessing, probably overestimating)
L: tuna on greens (4)
S: part of small apple; ww yogurt; wafer cookie(2.5)
D: turkey cheeseburger on lite EM (5); veggies (0)
Dessert: gorp, pretzels (5)

I used 2.5 FPs, which I didn't want to do, but I did it consciously to appease a craving for salt & sweet together. They are the only FPs I've used so far and won't use any today, so I think I am still good for our splurge dinner tomorrow.

Today:
B: RF PB and SF preserves on lite EM (3); coffee w/creamer (1)
L: tuna on greens (3); apple (1)
