the last time we went to disney it took them 3 trys to get us a campsite that fit... we did not get preferred camping, do you know if when we drive up we can ask if a campsite is taken and see if they will give it to us, or will they charge more? has anyone ever ask for a site at the gate and got it?

Never asked for a particular site when we arrived but I might try it this friday when we check in. We request 1300 loop and like 1307 so if we do not get 1307 we'll ask if it is open. I would expect that there would not be any extra charge.

I have asked for a particular site and got it or one close to it. They assign them several days ahead of time. If you don't fit in the one they assign you, go to a comfort station and call and ask about others available...

We always ask for a specific site when we make our resi's. In the late spring through early fall we get our request or a site very close about 90% of the time. However, the rest of the year there always seem to be snowbirds on the better sites. If we get a site we do not like we will pick 3 or 4 others and call back to the front and have always been able to get one of the alternates. They often have groups of 2 or 3 sites booked together for friends or family camping together so don't be surprised if there is an open site that they will not let you have.

Unfortunately, we had a rather different reaction to a request for a different site. The site we were assigned was too small for our camper plus, due to the location of a tree and the trash cans, it was impossible to back into it. We had a very difficult time getting them to assign us a different site. They told us that there were none available although we saw many empty sites. I am not a very aggressive person at all but finally had to tell them that if they didn't find us a site we would park in the parking lot. We have always made sure to inform them of the size of our camper and have even requested a loop before. We have never gotten the loop we requested!

We had a similar problem with the site we were given — 340 (I believe) we requested 1400 loop but it was closed when we arrived so we were in the 300 loop.

Thank goodness DH is a GREAT driver. We have a 1 ton long bed pickup truck with a 34 foot 5th wheel (3 slides and an awning). DH said not to worry about calling for another site that we would be just fine.

The site was short for us, we had to use every bit of the site (the sand pad was in the back and our back wheels were almost on it). We were not able to use the awning. We parked the truck across the front at an angle - that was the only place to park.
We were cramped but we still had fun (we really weren't at the site that much).

We are going again in Aug 2004 — I have again requested 1400 loop (hope for a longer site). But it really doesn't matter to us, we will be back at WDW having fun.

well when we get there in a couple of weeks I am gonna see if we have the same problem... I went to the comfort station last time and by the time we got to the campsite they told us.. someone else was in it.. then we had to go to another one... going to see if the campsite they gave us last time is available and if so if they will let us have it..
never hurts to ask.
