Camping With Pets (I am prepared to be flamed)

The OP was not the poster I quoted, this was another incident - not sure if this was in a pet loop, or not, doesn't really matter - the excessive barking is not supposed to be tolerated anywhere in FW. We stress to be put in preferred pet free loop only, and so far in all our trips, but one, have been accommodated (no issues that one time).

We were in the pet loop that trip (300) but I was surprised that those dogs were there at all. They were extremely aggressive and would throw themselves against the windows of the motor home whenever we walked by. When they were on leash they'd growl and lunge at people as they passed. We camp a lot and many campgrounds don't allow larger dogs or aggressive breeds. We had a border collie for 16 years but she stayed home when we traveled. She would have been miserable cooped up like that. The Shih Tzu is a sofa-surfing, AC loving sloth ;-)

Every morning until the pet owners left the barking was virtually non-stop. I also called the front desk, and I was transferred to three different people. The third Cast Member even said, "Yes, I hear it barking right now!" I made the call from the inside of my travel trailer and she could still hear the barking.

We love the Fort, we love WDW, and we absolutely plan to return. However, when you save for two years to make the trek and spend thousands..., it is really frustrating to know that those who break the rules will not be called to task and those who complain are told they can move if there is another site available. I just asked if something could be done to help the situation. And as for approaching them on my own, let me just say that my husband are I are high school teachers and we do enough rule enforcing in our professional lives. It would be nice on vacation to be able to let someone else handle that task. Isn't that what vacations are for? To leave as much of our "real lives" behind as possible for a few precious days?

Yikes! I think Disney should return to its previous policy which banned pets from Fort Wilderness.

Sadly, just like in any group there are those who give the group a bad name. We do a lot of camping and for the most part dog owners are responsible. And a lot of people got into camping so they can take their dogs with them. Our dog (9 yo Golden Ret) will go to kennels when we are going to a hotel, but she's a great camp dog so we would rather take her with us. She loves people, loves attention, loves walking around the campgrounds, loves being with us. I'm sure if someone knocked on the door she would go crazy with the barking(she does that here at home), but she just lies around all day otherwise.

I personally think it would be a shame if they banned dogs from FW.

I would have called security. While driving back to my cabin in 2500, which also has the other pool, some kids were walking toward it. Security happened to be right there, and since it was after 11pm, told them that the pool was officially closed, but they could still use it, BUT if he got a noise complaint, the pool would really be closed.
