Now that we live in Florida (:sunny: ) we're looking for other places to camp. I've been following the other thread about beach camping, but we're thinking specifically about camping in the Keys.

Scott - I know you've mentioned going down there. Where do you camp?

Anyone else have suggestions? Oh yeah - we would be in a tent.

Thanks!

There are 2 KOA's down there...one at Fiesta Key (about MM78) and the other at Sugarloaf Key (about MM20-ish). I've stayed at Fiesta key and the major complaints I have are that if you want water/electric, you have to set-up your tent on rocks. (Painful) Also, it's a big wide open area...not much privacy. Otherwise, it's nice there.

We've also stayed at America Outdoors . Nice white sand beach, a restaurant, boat rentals and lots of trees for shade. No Pool! If that's important to you, then skip this one but I liked it better than KOA.

I'm heading down in 8 days !!!! I have reservations at www.bluewaterkey.com , never been but people rave about it, we have been to Boyd's a couple times and Bahia Honda State park - hard to get reservations though, anything in the keys is VERY expensive, i tried to make a reservation for America outdoors but they won't book until next Friday for the following Monday for some reason.

TRUE, WE MADE ADVANCE reservations thru RESERVE AMERICA, but
a very beautiful and private key is LONG KEY STATE PARK..good biking and hiking.......
a lot of room between sites and much foliage to make you feel alone on a beautiful beach....the sites are but a few feet (at high tide) to the beach...my kayaks were on the sand right in front of my RV..JUST
shove em in and you are paddlin...(rental canoes available and cheap)
only 60 sites....but in talking with staff (who were so helpful) if you do not have a reservation, always stop in...usually can find tent or rv site......(fire rings...if you are into birding...every morning, at low tides, especially, bring your binocs...birds abound...just sat there in the
morning at sunrise in awe of the beauty....
we did stop at a lot of other campgrounds and the sardine factor is very true..the only place we really liked was BLUE WATER...STUNNING....
SO, these are the only two campgrounds I WOULD return to....
of course, the state campground was very inexpensive.....so if that is
an issue...try for the state campground...

which would you choose? Bahia Honda or Blue water Key? We are going to take 4 days from our WDW vacation in 2005, since it is not alot of days--we will be able to splurge. Any advice would be grrrreeeaatly appreciated because I am so confused!!

Thanks!

Bahia Honda is very inexpensive, its just very hard to get reservations there, so if you reserve as early as possible, but if money is no object you might like Bluewater Key, never been yet, but i'll let you know when I get back if its worth the money

I'll be eagerly awaiting to hear all about Bluewater Keys! Have a great time!! Thanks, Disney Campers! :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

Did you ever stay at Bahia Honda? If you did, could you please tell me a little about it? :yo-yo:

our first trip to the keys in a rental motorhome we stayed at Bahia Honda, it as shortly after Andrew and was a bit of a mess - one of the camping loops was closed, it was a nice park great water views, nice beach, i will probably stop next week, i'll take some pictures.
