We are thinking of trying to get back to WDW in late may/june. We were there May 09 with terrible weather but stayed at friends Hilton timeshare(free).
We have a nearly 20 hr drive with RV. I am not sure I can stay in RV for too many days in a row (we have never done more then 2 nights, just got our own RV in August.) We are thinking, drive 9 hrs to in-laws for a night, then to Fl.

options are -
3/4 nights at Fort wilderness camp ground in RV
and 3/4 days in Hotel Outside WDW
OR
3 days in Value resort in WDW
and 3/4 days in Campground outside WDW

I would love some input as to your feelings about FW campground and other orlando area campgrounds. Kids will be 5 and 3 and are great travelers already

Could you expand on why you limit to a few nights? We have about 20 hours from MO, and stay over at a KOA in GA. pull in, grab some grub, never hun hook.

We have done a week, 2 weeks and have 2 weeks coming up for Christmas. On the condition I buy the wife a foam topper for her camper bed.

If you choose option 2, you might want to consider using Tropical Palms resort campground for the 3/4 days outside WDW. But, maybe you might want to consider the camping first, and the remaining 3 days in the value resort last. But, you would have to do something with the RV during those 3 days, wouldn't you?

Fort campgrounds and comfort stations are very nice. Why don't you think you can stay in RV?? There are no bed bugs in the RV, right??:lmao: But seriously you will not be spending much time in the RV, there is just way too much to do and see at WDW. You will sleep in, hit the parks, a meal here and there then come HOME and goto sleep. Plus thats a long way to bring the RV not to take full advantage of it. Staying off site you have to pay parking every day ($14 for a car) where is you get free transportation from the fort to everything inside WDW.

Hope this helps, if you have any specific questions please ask!

thank you- I just am not sure I would be comfortable for about 10 days in an RV(I dont know that I wouldnt either.) I do enjoy staying at hotel, a bit of room service and larger space/bathroom. I cant say it wouldn't work well, we just have never done it. I am trying to gain information to help me decide. I would only do disney parks for the days I am staying on property, we would also visit seaworld again and friends/family who live locally.
(eta- I am aware that I cant get room service at a value resort. We have stayed there before)

Ahh their you go. Stay at the fort the first days then when you have had enough goto a hotel and relax with all the comforts of the hotel.

I am just the opposite of you.
I am way more comfortable staying in my RV.
I know that it is clean. I clean it. I know who slept in my sheets.
Other than that, everything else is up to me.
Cook in the RV? Eat out?
Take a bus or a boat to a park or DTD? Stay at the Fort and relax?
It goes on and on.
It all depends on what you want your experience to be.
There is no right or wrong. It is all up to you.

I'm afraid your gonna get a lot of posts like this: stay in the Rv for the duration at The Fort. This is what we do. We sleep and shower inside, pretty much outside all other times. I hate breaking up a trip and moving, to me it's a big PITB.

thanks for input I appreciate the help.
After some math, it probably isnt worth us taking the RV the distance after all. Its Old so the gas alone will be a lot. If it were newer and modern a long trip would be a definite easy decision. Just weighting all of our options, may wait another year:sad2:.

WE travel down from Delaware and stay overnight on the way down at:
SpringHill Suites Savannah I-95 South
4 Gateway Blvd East (Exit 94),
Savannah, Georgia 31419 USA
Nice, clean and they offer a free hot breakfast -then we're back on the road in no time.

If I was doing a split stay - I'd stay at the Fort first and then move to the hotel.

However, be warned, once you stay at the Fort you may not want to leave.

Why do you have an RV if not to go places and have your own facilities when you get there? Sounds like you really don't care for or haven't really tried RVing. And when considering costs, br sure you are comparing ALL of the cost for whatever way you travel. And you might even need to include the cost of your RV sitting at home depreciating and costing insurance and the like. Seriously, come on down and enjot the Fort as it is meant ot be enjoyed....on site and in an RV. I would much rather stay in my own bed, eat off my own dishes, use my own bathroom, and enjoy the freedom of the Fort and the great outdoors than be cooped up in a hotel room with a hallway and /or balcony.

Unless you are towing a vehicle with your RV or renting a car, you are going to find getting to the parks from the offsite location a pain in the neck. Most off site places have shuttles, but they usually serve multiple properties and run on a very limited schedule.

Why did you buy an RV? You could stay in your RV and move to a cabin and you will still be at the Fort.

Like I said we bought it in August so I do not know how long I will be comfortable in it. I have never been in it for longer then 3 nights and that was great and fun.
If you need an answer as to why we bought it, its for weekend trips, staying at the in-laws rather then an hour to a hotel, to stay at friends in LI so we arent shoving the family in with our friends in their RV, our yearly Camping trip with friends to see jimmy buffett in VA and local camping for 2-3 nights. It serves the purpose for the weekend trips that we have enjoyed. Is that answer acceptable:rolleyes1?

Down the road we would like to do longer trips but I havent tried it and yes, we do enjoy hotel stays as well. Again, OUR Rv is old, so its a bit less comfy then new and modern. The RV is not depreciating in or driveway- we will AGAIN be taking it to VA to SILs next weekend. I am just not sure I want to be in it for 10 days YET.
Well that went a whole other way, I do appreciate the comments about staying at FW.
eta- the plan was to so disney parks while we were onsite resort(either FW or value resort) then we leave and did not plan to get to any disney parks- we would be visiting friends/family and with them(in their car) go to Seaworld before heading home.
