Camping in MA or NH?

I live in Methuen, MA and we love to “tent” camp. We usually go to a campground in Plymouth, MA. We’re thinking of planning our first camping trip for this summer over Memorial Day weekend (there are 3 families going – 6 adults and 7 kids ages 1-8).

Does anyone have recommendations for campgrounds? We’re thinking about trying something new. We’re looking for clean bathrooms, lake swimming or close proximity to the ocean. Overall a family campground with a playground for the kids to hang out at. There doesn’t have to be tons of planned activities, as we’re usually swimming somewhere.

Any suggestions?

I don't really have any suggestions, but we are neighbors! I'm in Boxford. I like to go on the Woodalls site to search for campgrounds. The ratings are pretty good.

We are in such a great area to camp. We have it all (mountains, lakes, streams, ocean, etc.).

Good luck.

I forgot to mention what caught my attention in your post...

I have twins too. Id. boys, age 6 (I also have a 4 yo boy)

I have camped for years all over Ma and NH and Maine and find Maine to be the best for camping...

I love Pine Acres campground.. beautiful lake and playgrounds for the kids and tons of activites...http://www.pineacresresort.com/
In Maine Sebago lake campground super big and lots to do!

There is so much to do in this area... you have the kittery outlets less than 30 minutes from all these maine campgrounds and there are trolleys, shops, and beautiful beaches all around you.. President Bush's vacation house half hour away in Kennebunkport and there are so many things to do in Kennebunk as well.
I have vacationed in this area for the past 28 years and look forward to it every year!

My brother swears by thos campground never been myself

Good luck What ever you choose have a great time!

Peters pond campground in Sandwich(just over the canal @ exit 3) is our new fav.. Myles Standish state park in Plymouth is great. Lots of different ponds, good fishing, and the Rock is only 15-20 min. down the road. Plymouth has lots of great restaurants and the Mayflower is a nice place to walk around. Check it out.

We're going to Papoose Pond Resort in Maine for Memorial Day Weekend. It can get a little cold that far north, but we always have a blast fishing and playing ball with the kids. Last year we swam in the pond, as it was quite warm, but the previous year we wore winter coats! Always a fun place!

Wow! We are neighbors and do have lots in common! You're right - we do have lots of options in this area for camping. We're very lucky!

We did try them already and they don't have any tent sites avail with water and elect. That place looks awesome!

Thanks to all for your recommendations. I'm going to check them all out today and make a decision soon! I knew my Dis friends would come through for me!!!

Hi! I can vouch for Acres of Wildlife - its out in the middle of nowhere and therefore totally self-contained. Even when full its very peaceful and affordable.

While I was attracted to the idea of the Wells Beach Resort, I read too many reviews about the "gestapo" tactics of the staff that I am turned off by it. Sounds too much like "Dune's End" in P-town, MA.

Hello from Salem, NH!!!! We like to camp at Danforth Bay in Freedom, NH. It is a very nice campground. Plus it is only about a 2 hour drive.

If you like Plymouth, you might like camping at Pinewoods Lodge. If you want to camp on/near a fantastic beach, go to Scusset Beach State Park in Sagamore (just south of Plymouth, on the Cape Cod Canal.) Very little shade there, but love the beach.

Here's one I saw on the Travel Channel, on a show about 5 star campground resorts...looked very cool.Normandy Farms Campground - Foxboro, MA

Oh, and HI! to leprechaun!

We've been going to Bourne Scenic Park for years now - my DBF's father has a seasonal site here. They have tent sites, are close to the ocean (right on the Cape Cod Canal) and have a playground. They get booked quickly for RV sites, but might still have tent ones available...

HTH!!! :teeth:

We go every year to Jellystone in Ashland. Very family orientated and lots to do with the kids. Be warned tho, it's not a "in the woods" type of place. A little more resorty. It's right on the Pemi and they have a pool and childrens water playground. Planned activities all day.
We have a lot of fun there and like I said we HAVE to go every year per the kids orders! LOL
The funny part is my kids are 14 and 16!

There'a alot to do to in the area. Weirs beach is a hop skip jump away.
