We're considering, God help us lol, taking our 4 children ( by that time they will be 12, 10, 5, and 3) tent camping for TEN DAYS at the beginning of June in 2013. So what I would like to know is how many tents can you have in a site? I probably will either bring a pop-up and 2 tents or three tents. Is that okay? Is there a particular type of campsite or location of campsite that you would recommend?

We really want a long vacation and while we would stay in the cabins, the price just seems to be too much for 10 days in the cabins. And we like camping. So despite the fact that we are insane, :rotfl:, what would you recommend campsite wise and supplies? I already own cots, tent, etc.

Any other help would be appreciated. Any babysitters would be appreciated. :D

You'll be fine!

While we have a camper, we did an extended trip about 2 years ago to South Carolina and were gone about 12 days total with three kids (ages 1 1/2, 9, 11 at the time!). It gets cozy and cramped but we survived and we all had a great time.

I definately recommend a fan or air conditioner! It's HOT in June in Florida but I'm from Ohio so it's a real change for us. It's mostly the humidity that makes it miserable but you'll be at Disney World so it's makes it worth it! :)

We love camping and I cant imagine any better place to spend 10 days camping than Disney World.

Electric-powered carts are available as your personal transportation within the Campsites at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort.....how cool is that!!

I guess I could tell some backstory on why we decided on this trip. We've stayed at Fort Wilderness for a week in 2009. We stayed in the cabins and we loved the entire resort. Since then we've been to Disney for 3 weekend trips and haven't had a serious thought of a long trip back to FW since then. This past week, we were in WDW for 5 days and stayed on property elsewhere. On Saturday, we made our first trip to the Hoop Dee Doo Review. The second we entered the campgrounds my wife and I immediately looked at each other and said "Oh God we love this place." Just seeing the campsites, golf carts, bikes, and the everything else just made us die to go back. We already have a week vacation this summer in St. Augustine and my wife and I are going on the Disney Dream by ourselves in 2012. After seeing all the Fantasyland construction, we thought the first of June 2013 would be perfect since most of the Magic Kingdom construction will be done! I told my wife by the time the trip comes, I might up our stay to 14 days! hahaha

We have taken all 3 of our girls to Fort Wilderness for 10 days. We had 2 large tents and a fan in each tent. When you arrive at check- in strongly request a site near the comfort station. We even drove through our loop and located several close to the comfort station and went back to check in and asked to be changed to a specific site close to the comfort station. We always do the dining plan so there is minimal food preperations at the site. The refillable mugs are also a must for us!

This year we are planning to make a few meals at our site and are bringing our popup with us, so we will see how that goes!

Have a GREAT time!!!

I have the tower fans in our tent. I put 1 in one corner and another in another corner oscillating and that helps keep the air flowing on hot evenings. Also, they are a little safer for the little ones and they don't take up too much room.

Best Regards,
Norm

I apprehensive before we tent camped at the fort with our two kids last October. Like you, we enjoy camping and had plenty of gear and experience-we were just worried it would be too much "work" on top of the excitement of Disney.

Turns out it was our best camping trip and best trip to Disney. The kids loved having room, the Fort, the fireworks, the movies, Chip and Dale, I could go on and on... We requested the 1500 loop and got it. The sites were small but right across the way from the pool.

I say go for it and just be prepared for the heat!
Sandra

Tent camping in June bring fans or portable AC. It does get hot and stays hot.

No, I'm camping for 12 days (1 on the way to WDW and 10 there, and 1 more on the way home) with FIVE kids. I'm nuts. :lmao:

Oh wait, in a TENT??? Yes you are nuts! LOL ;) Take fans for sure.
