Camping Check in - how early?

So I have seen a couple of different scenarios and I'm trying to figure out how we do this.

We have a 10 hour drive. Check in is at 1 for the campsites but we want a 1500 loop (which we have requested, but it is not guarenteed). How early can I get there to be assigned a pad (even if that means we dont actually set up until 1?) I really want to get the best spot available!

for instance. If we get there at 8...will they assign us to a pad and just say come back at 1 to set up?

1) You can check-in as early as 6:05am.
2) Whether your site is ready for occupancy is a different question.

Well I guess my concern is that we get a good station. So I could "check in" at 6:05 and tell them we want a 1500 loop no matter if it is ready or not (if the will have one that day). And then we could get our check in stuff and just go do other things in the area until it is ready for us to set up. That is what I planned on....would that work?

1) Yep.
2) The earlier you check in, the better your location (sites, cabins, rooms). *
3) Regardless where you are assigned, the Front Desk can change you.
4) That is why folks checking-in later with good locations end up with worse.
5) Sure, some sites have campers that are there for a few more days.
6) But, any site in your category being vacated can usually be yours.

* This applies to The Fort and ANY resort.

So what it boils down to is once you check in early, you wont get bumped even if your site isnt ready. So checking in early is advantageous. If you can get assigned a site in 1500 even if u have to wait for it, u wont get bumped.

1) Once you check in, you are given YOUR site/cabin/room.
2) At any resort.
3) They will not tell you the site/cabin/room number.
4) They do not want you to enter the cabin or room.
. . . once you get a key, the key is good IMMEDIATELY
. . . even if the occupants haven't checked-out, you can enter
. . . for a campsite, they don't want you to see who is on it
5) Unless there is a mechanical failure, the site/cabin/room is not changed; repeat, NOT CHANGED.
6) To sum it up early check-in:
. . . all sites/cabins/rooms are assigned before you arrive
. . . however, these are not cast-in-stone
. . . regardless of resort, ALWAYS check-in as early as possible.
. . . if you do not like the location, ask for a change
. . . you may not get the EXACT site/cabin/room you want
. . . someone staying past your check-in day may be there
. . . but, you can get close
. . . any Front Desk person will honor your request
. . . if not, ask for a manager
7) To sum up late(r) check-in:
. . . your site/cabin/room has been assigned before your arrival
. . . anyone checking-in before you might ask for that location
. . . if it is their category, the Front Desk can assign it to them
. . . you, then get their location
. . . the later you check-in the less ability there is to change locations
. . . in the worst case, a late check-in gets the worst location in the category
