Camping but not staying 1 night?

Hello all,

We have reservations for Dec. 3-17 (Yay, our first Disney Trip ever!!) and we are looking into going to Siesta Key Beach for a night....

Is it against Disney policy to NOT stay at your campsite for a night?

We really want to check out the ocean since we are from the Northwest but we also don't want to come back the next day to an eviction notice .

We also have friends staying in a condo and they've offered for us to stay there a couple nights if it gets too cold for the kiddies at night but once again, I don't know if that's a No-No?

The way we see it is that we're paying for it so they shouldn't complain since they are getting thier money anyway BUT Disney may say otherwise.

Help please!

You can stay where ever you want.

BTW, Siesta Key is beautiful but it is not on the ocean, it is on the Gulf of Mexico. Have to go EAST to sea the Ocean.

In September last year we keeped our RV at the Fort but stayed in a hotel at Universal for a week and never had a problem with Disney PoPo. I don't know where you heared this info but it is not wright.

Different circumstances require different measures to ensure ones safety such as the children being cold. l can absolutlly understand reasoning as that and children would be my # 1 concern.

However, it is frowned upon by many people, such as I, to rent a available site just so one can use the Disney perks, and NOT stay at the site , THUS knocking out that possible chance for a vacationer to actually have and USE that site,,,,who knows, that one site not being used could have possibly kept someone from having their "once inna life time" vacation

Thats just my opinion.

I have been here for 6 mo and i have never seen the more than 60% full even over the Holidays . We are in the 400 loop and there are 8-10 camp site open right now.Most of the time the Fort is 8-10% full

Sorry to offend you, but your post made it sound as if they were renting the campsite to just get the disney perks and never stay there when it the OP question/comment that was never suggested. I do understand it is your opinion, but it did not go with what was being asked

Certainly,this is not the first time a question of this nature has been asked. Most of the time, the poster has no real intention of camping, just wants to use the site for the "perks" as you say. Many times the OP is really looking for information on how to get around any rules that might be in place to restrict this. Surely, you can imagine the frustration experienced by those who actually want to camp or extend their stay only to be told that FW is totally booked, yet they can SEE unoccupied sites. Does make a camper wonder what's goin' on.
I'm sure you can understand why a person who has experienced this might be somewhat skeptical of the question posed.

perhaps a good number of those
unoccupied" sites mentioned have been "rented" to people who want to use the perks but actually had no intention of ever using the campsite. It IS difficult to get a site and unless booked far, far in advance it often takes multiple calls and the willingness to compromise when you stay. We book as soon as the window opens and keep calling until we get what we want. That being said, the OP was asking about 1 night of not occupying the site and as others have said, Disney doesn't care whether you occupy the site or not as long as they get paid for the site and the OP was planning to occupy the site most of the time so it really doesn't interfere with anyone else's lifetime trip. I happen to agree with the person who wrote that renting the site just to use the perks is just plain inconsiderate, but it is allowed.

Wow! - do they have a storage option? Or is it so hard to find reasonably priced, convenient storage around there that it pays to use a Fort site for storage?

Thank you Christine for coming to my defense because initially I also thought Born to Fish was bashing me when I read that I would be taking somone's dream away. I had no intention of not using the site for our entire vacation; I just wanted to know about 1 night as you pointed out so thanks.

Born to Fish, thank you for your reply and clarification about what you meant. I understand how someone could be upset about people trying to get around the system but I was only asking about one night at Siesta Key and then heading back to Fort Wilderness; we'll be there two weeks so I'm guessing Disney won't miss us for one night.

I personally wouldn't care what people decide to do with their own money. If they feel they can afford a campsite and not stay there than, to each his own I guess. If they feel it's an affordable loop hole than I'm sure they have thier own logic behind thier thinking.

In all honesty, if my kids can't handle the weather we just might be on the same boat as those other people. We have family nearby and we'll be staying with them if the little ones can't handle the camping at night. It won't feel like a waste of money though because we'll be using the campground as a homebase during the day. We are from the Northwest (colder weather) so the kids should do just fine but you never know with kids. Plus, we've never camped in December.

OK, a little OT here... but the Gulf of Mexico is a part of the Atlantic Ocean. I know, it is a trivial thing, but if your going to point something out at least be correct about it. There is ocean to the east and west of Orlando.

Look it up in your Funk and Wagnalls.
