Hi

I am thinking about going camping in the summer, as it seems to be quite cheap for a week once you have your bits and bobs.

I have a problem I have a terrible phobia of insects. My dh said that if you buy a decent tent you wont have any problems with bugs getting in. I dont believe him, as I know he will tell me what I want to hear, so he can go. I am just so worried if bugs do get in easily then it would be my worst nightmare holiday. :scared1:

Please help.

well.. If its very hot and you have sugary foods out such as Jam..Fizzy drinks etc left out than this will attract a lot of bugs. as I am sure you find when you go on pinics eating outside at a resturant etc..It is not really any worse.

we went camping and found the bees were a nuisance when we were eating outside.. It was to hot to eat in the tent.

I think your husband is right.. If you get a decent tent and make sure it is shut during the day and all food and drinks are away than it should not be too much of a nightmare.

The only problem I can think of is surely if its hot you cant have the tent zipped up and it doesnt sound secure unless you have the zip done up.

Sorry I have never been camping before, but I know the kids would love it.

We've been camping the last couple of years and are new to it. Its so much fun and our 2 DS's love it. We've had a few problems with bugs later on in the evening but found they are mainly attracted to light coloured tents! They settle on top of the roof but as long as you zip your tent up in the day and maybe buy a tent with separate bedroom compartments in it, then l dont think you'll have a problem. Perhaps borrow a tent off someone first and go just for a few days to check out how you feel :thumbsup2

Our tent has its own bedroom compartments and we havent had any problems at all with bugs! only as said before at night when the light attracts them.
try and buy a tent with a sewn in ground sheet as well.

WE go camping most years for our main hols in France. The only insects we have problems with are mozzies but not major problems.

We got one of those plug in things that burn a "tablet" which gives off a anti-mozzie vapour. we use it every night & it works very well.
