We have a family friend whose son was in a really bad car accident over a month ago. The accident happened in LA but the family lives in FL panhandle. Finally, the ok has been given to transfer him to Shands and they are wanting to find a campground somewhat close to the hospital to help save on expenses. It is going to be an extended stay. There might be times when his mom would be there alone....so someplace safe would be important. I know that sounds funny...but you all know what I'm trying to say.:thumbsup2 Any suggestions?

there's not a whole lot of campgrounds in the area that I know of....... But I haven't looked in a few years.

Check with the hospital. Some larger ones have spaces with some hookups. Or they may have a referral system for area facilities.

There is one in Alachua, North of Gainesville (Travelers) and also one South in Orange Lake, (Grand Lake RV and Golf Resort)

There is a state park called Paynes Prairie (Micanopy) about 10 mi south of Shands. We know because dd had a bike accident and we had to use Shands while camping. It is very close and easy to drive. Most SP in FL only let you stay about 2 weeks but you might be able to park in a walk up site that can't be reserved online so your stay could be longer if needed. Check with rangers at park and see if they can help you. Good luck with the recovery.
