I heard there was a campground with sites on the beach in Perdido Key, but cannot find any information.

What are your favorite places to camp (on gulf coast) that is within walking distance of the beach? Any suggestions for keeping sand out of the tent!!!

Check out Florida State Parks. There are a couple that are right on or very close to a beach. Only problem with the state parks is that they don't have sewer, but most do have a dump station (actually this is a problem for my husband, not me - yes, I admit, I'm spoiled).

We keep sand out of our camper by putting down a large indoor/outdoor carpet right outside the door of the 5th wheel. We also have a 'no shoes' policy. We leave our shoes outside by the carpet. We also leave beach towels, etc. outside. We hang them on a clothesline or (in a pinch) over the side of the truck, over the picnic table, wherever. Bring a clothesline with you.

Also if you visit a Florida state park, bring some firewood - most have fire rings but you can't pick up dead wood and you don't want to buy it.

Florida is a great place to camp. Have Fun

Our favorite park is Fort Desoto. It's right by St. Petersburg Beach and it's a County park (I think). I know it's not a state park. They have beautiful beach sites!

Here's the catch. Reservations can only be made IN PERSON, up to 30 days in advance. This keeps all the out-of-staters from calling and booking up the campground. If you know somebody who lives near there, they can make the reservations for you, but only in person.

You can also try to just go there without reservations. We've gotten in during the off-season by showing up on a Thursday or early Friday. But if you wait til Friday afternoon, they'll be all booked up with local people camping for the weekend.

Do a search on Yahoo or Google for Fort Desoto park, and you'll see lots of information!

www.fortdesoto.com rumor has it that online reservations are coming..... I found this park by Rhonda's recomendation - its a nice place we have stayed a few times.

There is a nice Campground at the end of Pensacola Beach.
It's Fort Pickens Campground.
Hope this helps.:D

We stay at a state park on the beach in Destin. It is called Henderson Beach state park. It is very nice. Florida parks do not allow drinking alcohol so it is nice for familys. The comfort rooms are very clean. The showers even had heaters and airconditioned. The shower water pressure is better than any Disney hotel we have been at. There is a nice boardwalk to the beach. You cannot see the beach from your camp site as many shrubs separate the ocean from the campsites. The walk to the beach has many plants with info tags at some.

There is many other state parks on ocean property. Sabastion, a state park, is about 10 miles from Disneys Vero Beach Resort.

Their is another one about 20 miles east of Destin, I do not remember its name, St. Andrews in Panama, one in the keys that I think is called Bahia ... dont remember the name.

Is Perido Key near Pensicola? If so I do not think it has camping but could be wrong.

The state parks go threw

Beverly Beach Camptown is on the east coast of Florida, between Daytona Beach and St. Augustine. I haven't been there, but several people that I work with have and say it's wonderful. Your campsite is right on the beach.

Here's their web site: http://www.beverlybeachcamptown.com/

We live in Jacksonville, and I am not sure where you want to camp but here are a few of our favorite spots:

Hanna Park: is on the beach (sites are not on the beach) it is between Jax beach and Mayport area. beautiful... It has wonderful bike trails (must wear bike helmets) my husband and son love riding there. the beach you can walk and walk and walk.

Fort Clinch- St. Augustine, has become our favorite local place(ft. Wilderness is our very favorite) at the fort you can fish on the river side or the mile long pier over the beach, also has a bike trail and picnic area swing for the kids, we are going the 17th, next weekend and we are so excited it is a great place to relax and enjoy your family and friends...

remember all state parks you have to reserve thru, reserve america.

If you have any questions feel free to ask...

Happy camping
