I know those don't even come close to comparing, but each is a favorite in my family depending on who you ask.
I'm trying to determine which costs less when I factor in resort rates (with any available discounts), resort parking rates (currently doesn't apply to a tow vehicle at the campground), and gas (which is double when hauling a camper). We won't factor in a savings for cooking in the camper because we found out on our last trip that we won't. lol
For our last vacation, the Fort came out ahead. It was $300 less after factoring in gas. (That trip was booked before they started charging for resort parking at the hotels, so that charge was not factored into our calculations.)
The Fort stays so booked that they do not tend to offer any discounts. The Pop tends to run a "fun in the sun" discount on rooms. When I checked the rack rate on a standard room, it was $203 compared to the Fort's $128 for a FHU site. When I factored in gas, the savings to stay at the Fort was $450--not small change for us.
When I played with the website, it then offered me a "fun in the sun" package, which presented a much closer margin. The room went down to $172 per night.
What I couldn't figure out was the resort parking fee, and whether or not it factored into either of the Pop calculations. We are drivers (whether at the Fort or Pop), so I know we would be charged a fee for this at Pop, but I do not know how much it is and whether they factored that in or not.
