I was just wondering if anyone could tell me how the buses work at Fort Wilderness? We've stayed there many times years ago and I've forgotten!

I seem to remember there being a Chip & Dale bus that took you around the campground and a Crocket Bus. Don't you first have to take one of these buses to the Ticket & Transportation Center to then catch another bus or monorail to the park you want to go to? Or do they have buses that pick you up from the campground to take you directly to the Parks?

There are 3 bus routes in the campground. Yellow, Orange, and Purple. Depending on what loop you are in, you would take one of these busses to either the Outpost (at the entrance to the cc) or Settlement (Marina).

If you want to go to MK, you go to the Settlement and take the ferry. If you want to go to MGM, you go to the Settlement and get on another bus to MGM. If you want to go to BB, TL, Epcot, AK, you take the bus to the Outpost and then board a bus to one of these parks. There is also the bus for Downtown Disney here.

Then when you return to the CC you would take whatever colored bus services your loop.

Just as a side note, when we were there in April we were in the 1000 loop which is serviced by the Orange Bus. This bus services 600-800, 900 and 1000 loop and Wilderness Lodge. They only had 2 busses running on the Orange Line so we waited sometimes up to 40 minutes for a bus. The Yellow and Purple had many more busses running and there never seemed to be a wait for them.

The bus routes, etc. are posted at every bus stop. I remember the other systems they had, which I felt worked much better than this new one. Apparently they change them frequently as we were told by the drivers.

Have a great trip.

The Bus is color coded. For example yellow or orange. One bus makes the rounds inside the campground with stops at most loops, the marina and the front depot. From the Front depot, you can catch a bus to Epcot, AK, Bizzard Beach, Typhoon Lagoon etc.. I think the bus service was good. We parked our car at our site when we arrived and only drove it ONCE the whole time to Sea World one day. Love Disney Transportation!

Great! So they have changed the bus system! That's good to know. Thank-you so much for your replies! :flower:

As a long time Ft. Wilderness camper, I want you to know that the new system is much better than the old Chip/Dale and Crockett/Fort sytem. There are now three separate routes through the campground, and to me it flows much more efficiently. The major problem is that it is a little more difficult to get to the Meadows area on two of the routes, but it is much easier to get to the Settlement and Pioneer Hall with the new system. Also, you can now go directly to all of the parks via bus, as opposed to having to go to the ticket and transportation center in the old days.

Just know that their system is always subject to change. It seems like they make a major change every couple of years ... so read the material they give you at check-in or ask.

I do agree, that the current system seems to work rather well. I even think the ferry schedule between Ft. Wilderness/Wilderness Lodge/MK, as well as the one between Ft. Wilderness/Contemporary/Wilderness Lodge has improved!!
