Chao: "It's a....tradition in the Empire. The matchmaker is the woman, unmarried herself, who decides if you're good enough to be a bride and who you will marry. It's the difference between honor and dishonor for most Chinese girls. It's not unique to China though, they had them in other cultures as well. In more modern places, when friends set each other up that is a form of matchmaking. In China, only I and the princesses are exempt from the matchmaker, but the princesses will marry politically, I will not. Many disagree with my family not following tradition, but as my parents are the heroes of China and the closest advisers of the Emperor, and as an agent of the Emperor myself, people can not disagree publicly, nor will they convince my parents differently."
