Camp Lejuene to Ocala...

My grandson (USMC) will be coming home from Japan next month and his next assignment will be at Camp Lejuene, North Carolina. Can anyone tell me the best way (bus/train) for him to get down to visit us? We're just a bit south of Ocala, Florida.

He can fly out of Jacksonville or Wilmington, NC. Otherwise there is a bus station there in Jacksonville. I believe the nearest train station is in Raleigh, though.

My brother is based out of CLJ. If your grandson was coming home during the time we are coming back from CLJ we would drop him off for you. My brother's homecoming is the end of next month.

He would still need to catch the train in Raleigh.

I am in Jacksonville NC, right next to Camp Lejuene. There is a bus station here in town but that will be a loooooong ride. They have shuttles from CLJ all the time to the airport here in Jacksonville as well as to Raliegh. I have never flown from the Wilmington Airport so don't know much about that. The airport here in Jax is a small one but I think it is still US Airways and possibly Delta that fly out of there. Most times, the layover is in Charlotte to get to other parts of the country.

Tell you grandson welcome home from us! I too made the move from Japan to Jacksonville, NC. Was he in Okinawa? Anyhow, I lived in Action Jacksonville for many years with my USMC husband (even got married there and had my first baby there). Tell him to remember that there are also airports in New Bern (1 hour) and Greenville (I think 1.5 hours?). We used to drive up to Raleigh and take the train to WdW with our kids. The train leaves Raleigh at about 10 p.m and gets to Sanford in the morning, so it is an easy trip. Get on, fall asleep, arrive in FL!

Hope you get to hug your grandson really soon and thank him for his sacrifices. USMC rocks!
