Hey guys

Next week marks my family's and i's second trip to Orlando, i managed to get a very reasonable package deal flying from Belfast and staying at the Crown Plaza for 11 nights and the HRH for 3 nights, for less than i paid 18 months ago:cool1:

Anyway to my main point, i have tickets bought, planning all done, but now i am in a bit of a pickle, do i buy a new camera here or should i wait until i get to the states and purchase one. The last time i was there i paid no attention to what bargains were available in that department. I am not looking for anything remotely "high-end", just a simple to use good quality camera, recommendations are very much appreciated, as my knowledge of cameras is very limited.

Thanks in advance

Digital camera prices seem to be falling at the moment. But it all depends on how much you want to spend, and how much time your willing to search for. I bought mine this week at £99 reduced from £299, for a 7.2mp Samsung.

I would buy here, personally wouldn't want to be 'wasting my time' looking round for cameras once over there, I prefer being in the parks.:)

I have just purchased a 'fujifilm finepix f31 fd'- waiting for it to arrive.! I ordered it on MONDAY and have had lots of hassle over delivery. and I want it NOW!
Apparently this camera is a very 'good point and shoot' type, with settings for fireworks, snow, beach etc and takes a good pic inside as well.supposted to have fast shutter speeed as well so you don't miss stuff with delay ( my current camera is a slow as royalmail!)

if you type the camera name into goggle you will get lots of sites that have done indepentant reviews- retails online at about £150.00...haven't used it yet tho!

I LOVE my Canon S2, and now the S3's have come down. It was reasonably priced for the features it has. (The fireworks photo by my name was done hand-held).

A good quality memory card helps to speed up a camera by writing the card quicker.

I have the Canon S3 IS, and can recommend that though for some people it may be too big.

Love those firework photos by your name, looking forward to trying the camera out in Orlando in the summer and getting some good night time shots.

I love my Canon Ixus and most are about £150 on www.dabs.co.uk. The pictures in my siggie were taken with it. I agree get a camera here and get used to it before you go. Have a fab time when you do go though :)

Claire ;)

I had wondered the same thing a couple of weeks ago, but in the end decided to buy my camera now, to give me time to get used to it. Got the Fuji Finepix S5600, which has 5.1MP and 10x optical zoom (the zoom was the big selling point for me). It was reduced to £115 on Amazon :thumbsup2

Great for point and shoot, but also has lots of settings if you take the plunge and go manual :)

I'd also buy one here. Usually once I have compared store prices in the US to the internet deals I can find over here there isn't really much of a saving to be had :(

You wont regret that purchase, I got one as soon as they were out, at a price of £240. The Face Detection is a little bit of a gimmik really (and sometimes it refuses to work), I almost wish I had got the F30 which has the same low light levels, but its tiny, stylish, quick and takes excellent pictures (although not as good in normal lighting as the Fuji E550 I had before it).
After years of being the one lumbering a video camera and a big-ish compact camera around the parks, I decided I wanted something small to fit in my pocket. Im considering purchasing the underwater kit for the f31fd at some point too.

Thanks for the advice guys

For some reason i hadn't considered getting used to a new camera, too many other things to occupy my mind this last few weeks:yay:

I took the advice and went to Curry's and bought a Kodak v1003 and a 2gb memory card, now to get used to it

hey norn iron, im from belfast too, just wondering who u booked your holiday with, im struggling to find a god deal!?:confused3

We're going to have fun in Disney in the photographic sense this year. My sister has just bought a new video camera - it's so tiny it's smaller than my new digital camera, but since that's the Canon E400D, it's not difficult! I'm still playing with my camera, and she with her. It's definitely worthwhile taking them for a test run. While we were looking, there were quite a few in-store deals at Comet, but that was a little while ago now! Good look with finding something suitable!

We are trying to hedge our bets for our first trip to WDW in September.

I have just bought a Sony Handycam DVD106E and hopefully I will have mastered it by then :P

To complement this, DW will be taking her Kodak DX4350 - a nice, easy to use 5 mega pixel camera. I doubt the 256 memory card will be enough, so the next choice is whether to buy another similar size card or move up to the next size up.

Surely, you can never take enough pictures! :thumbsup2

Oh, I had a little 3 mega pixel camera last year, with a 256 memory card (cheap one, but it survived full submersion in water!), and took most of my photos on the second from highest quality. However, by halfway of the second week, I had to reduce the quality to the lowest setting, and stop taking millions of pictures :( I had very little room by the end of the trip.

This time, I have 2 top-of the-range 1GB compact flash cards (for taking continuous shots), as well as the free 256MB card you got once registered. Despite all that, I will still be taking the laptop and clearing my card(s) every night! I love photography, and with my new camera I'm going wild! I have a feeling I will be spending more time on taking photos than going on rides! :lmao:

Have a look at the walmart website...

www.walmart.com/catalog/catalog.gsp?cat=3959&fromPageCatId=3944

there are some reasonably priced cameras :thumbsup2 we are getting ours from there when we go

Just remember to add tax to these price, like I keep posting the deals are no better over there than they are here.
EG. just looked at the link you posted first camera I looked at was Canon 400D(or their version) $808 ($856 incl tax) approx £430.
A quick search here I found it at £460 delivered without trying. With cashback sites and vouchers probably get it for similar price.
Consider different plugs, and import fees if stopped.
There is the odd bargain in US but usually not worth it.
