Cameras you take to Disney

I was just curious, how many cameras do you take with you when you travel? How many of them do you take with you to Disney on a day to day basis, Do you take your DSLR and your P & S with you and switch between them all day?
I think I may end up taking between 3 and 4 of mine, 2 DSLRs(30D and XTI) and 2 P & S(870is and S5is) and then decide which I feel like carrying around that day and what park I will be in.

Tell me what you usually do.

3 or 4 -- interesting. Why do you think you will need them all?

I will likely have both a DSLR and a P&S (as I just can't bring myself to use the DSLR in restaurants).

When I first got my dslr last summer I thought I'd bring it AND my P&S to Disney (or any other vacation spots). I ended up just bringing the dslr, and that was perfect.

I typically bring both my 40D and XT. The XT is simply a backup body for if something should happen to the 40D, and also something for my son to use should he decide he wants to shoot that day.

There is only one camera that I don't take with me any more, my NC1000 Mamiya. Just don't want anything to happen to it.
The rest are fair game I take them all, Canon EOS Rebel (in 24mm format), Sony DSLR, Kodak EasyShare, & Sony CamCorder.
They can do you no good if you leave them at home!!!

Mark - We've seen the photo so if that is your idea of traveling light, I'm Princess Aurora:lmao:

Next trip, I am only taking my G9 with its 2 add-on lenses. I'm going to have fun, not spend all my time taking photos.

I always bring a second camera as a backup should something unexpected happen to one of them (and this DID happen on a cruise this past December) and sometimes it's just more convenient to use the p&s rather than the dSLR depending on what we're doing. I have the K100, S3 and the A720IS but the S3 doesn't get used much any more since buying my dSLR. We use the A720 mostly for snorkeling with an u/w housing as well as being our backup camera.

I bring my canon 40D as my main camera, but I also bring my little Sony DSC-V1 for infrared photography.

P&S allow those close up times, especially character dinings. But for meet and greet, DSLR is much better cause it's much faster. I see people carry around 3 or more lenses. But a good 18-135 or 18-200, got the 200 for stage shows and such and 18 for the family. But if you insist on the 200-600 lens don't forget the 18-100, we definatly look at you strange when you stand 500 ft away from your kid with mickey.

Hmm, others have had similar replies, but I'll add mine anyway.

I prefer to travel light.

That's me rollin' dem eyes! I've seen soldiers going into combat carrying lighter gear.

Like MM says, the fun is in the pictures for some of us. :) Especially using a DSLR, I have fun taking the photos and having the feel of a full-size camera, I don't enjoy taking photos with a PnS at all.

But to answer the original question... I think we'll have three cameras with us. My K20D, my wife using my old K100D, and her Fuji A40 for taking video. (I think the K1000 will have to stay home, though it may come again on a future trip.) We have a fairly new smallish miniDV camcorder but we'll probably leave it behind, I just don't see us using it much - we rarely take video under any circumstance, and the Fuji is fine for a short quick video of my kid dancing or whatnot.

I do wonder about why bringing the OP is bringing two DSLRs then choosing between them - is there really a day where you'd prefer to bring the XTI instead of the 30D? :confused3

The only thing I can think of is the weight advantage-- I think the xti is lighter, and perhaps at the end of a long day that makes a difference.

Definatley the weight advantage, I was thinking of bringing my 70-200 2.8 IS and thats a heavy guy to be walking around with all day but i was thinking to bring it only to Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom. The 30D i usually like to take it it to Sea World for all the shows along with the 70-200 and the tamron 28-75 2.8, better FPS on the 30D. The P&S are just for when I just feel like being lazy and character breakfasts.

I bring my rebel and my p+s canon sd 600. The canon also gives the video option which is nice.

I like to find some free time to go shoot without the family holding me back. Damn family!:thumbsup2

what do you do with a big SLR when going on a ride? I have a Canon Rebel and I always have the issue of its size as compared to the P&S Canon I have. But the pictures with the SLR are so much better.

You carry it with you and keep taking pictures! :teeth:

I think that pretty much every ride either allows you to hold the camera during it, or has a mesh net or similar storage to put the camera in to keep it safe during the ride.

Last trip we brougt 4 and really only used 2. I had my Nikon D50 as well as my old Nikon N70 (used it only a few times around the resort w/B&W film). I also brought my Canon Powershot S30 which didn't get used at all. DW used some cheep new video/still camera. I also took the Soney Digital8 video camera but only used it at the character meals. Turns out that the tape that was in it was bad so none of the video came out.

In the end I only used 1 camera and took around 3000 pics. For me half the fun of Disney is taking pictures.

For our next trip I hope to have a Nikon D300. I'll bring the D50 along as a backup. Other than that, DW is free to bring what ever she wants to lug around.

I take my D200, and my sister takes her P&S. Usually have the Nikon 18-200 on so its got a decent range without need to take loads of lenses into the parks.
