Do you usually just either take a picture camera into the park or just a video camera or do you try to do both. My DH is not one to run either, so is it worth trying to juggle a regular camera and a video camera to capture your memories? Any thoughts? Thanks :thumbsup2

I prefer still pics, but that's just me. I've been a single mom since DD was 5 months old, so it was always just me left to juggle the recording of any special event, and I find that I look at and share still photos much much more than video.

I take the video now sometimes and DD will tape parades, etc if she is in the mood, but mostly it stays in the bag. The only reason I even have a newer one is for her horse shows which are one of the few things that we do that is better with action!

Does your still picture camera take vidoes? Mine can take videos if I want, and that is what I use around the house, rather than getting out the camcorder.

I just went with pictures myself, no videos. I too do all of the photographing, not my husband.

We decided to go with small and light equipment. You can get better results with full-sized digital cameras and camcorders, but the small ones are really very good -- especially compared to the full-sized units of just a few years ago.

We figure we'll be able to keep both the digital camera and the camcorder with us at all times because of their small sizes and light weight.

It's something for photo/film nuts like us to consider, anyway!

I try not to take any anymore . I gave DW a camera and she doesn't like to use it. I don't like it but she wanted it because her friend had one.

I have a real nice video camera and use to take it all the time I have almost every ride taped or burned to DVD . But we go enough now and never watch the tapes so I would rather enjoy my time infront of rather then behind the camera.

I think these next two trips I'll take the Video because I don't have any of the party stuff on tape.

I use my digital camera which also allows me to take movies. I think video cameras can be too cumbersome.

I don't usually take either, but have taken both on occasion. A video is best for remembering (and getting that WDW fix), but a camera takes a lot less time than a video to shoot, IMO. :)

Most of the video cameras out now take pictures, as well, so there really isn't a need to carry both.

We have two kinds of trips. One where I take pictures, and one where the main thing is to get to rides and shows and have fun. I can do both, but it seems to go back and forth. I hate carrying the stuff with me, but I love having the pictures. Go figure.

We have so many pictures and videos that we only take them in when something special is going on. But I do have a funny story about that. DD, DSis and I were at MGM a few years back and when we went in we saw Tigger doing a picture greeting. Since Tigger is DD favorite (DD now 25) we stood in line and talked. It was in December so it wasn't too hot. We waited for about 10 minutes in line and when it was our turn I asked DSis for the camera and she said I thought you had it. None of us had a camera.

Needless to say we don't wait in line for a picture anymore unless we check to see if someone has a camera.

We just took our digital--a Canon S2 that takes video, too. It was so easy to use and our video camera is a dinosaur and seems to weigh as much as a dinosaur! :teeth:

I seem to be in the minority so far, but I always drag both along. I tend to look at the photos more often in between trips, but there is nothing to get us in the mood like watching old videos of our trips to WDW. While DH will gladly do either, he tends to zoom in and out way too crazily for me on the camcorder and doesn't zoom in enough on the camera. (I know, I know...I'm picky)

last time i went i just took a digital camera, but this time i picked up a camcorder that also takes still shots , so i figure with a 1gb memory card and 10 1hr tapes i'm ready for pictures and movies.

last year, our first WDW trip, we tried to do both. The kids enjoyed, and still do, watching the video, but not enough to make it "worth it." I take all the still photos...can't imagine going to WDW without my camera for those unique photo ops...but that's just me...wanna be photographer! :)

Thanks for all of the great advice :goodvibes I forsure want to take my digital camera, but not sure about the video camera. I guess time will tell. Thanks.

We bring both on vacation. While most still cameras do take video the quality is very low and unless you have a huge memory card you can't hold much video. The same idea for cameras that take photos. The quality isn't as good as using your digital camera. Anyway, get a nice pocket digital camera. I use a Canon SD500 7.2 megapixel that is small enough for my pocket. Easy to carry so I'm never without it. The video camera (minidv) is also pretty small, when I'm wearing cargos (which I always wear at the parks) the camera is small enough to fit in a pocket. We take the video cam without about 20-30 percent of the time. The video we take however is PRICELESS!! I love the photos, but 10 mins worth of video is hard to beat. Last trip we filmed my oldest DS 7 at the Jedi Academy and its the greatest video I've ever seen :-) MiniDV camera and some software, plus computer and its on DVD in no time. Hope that helped ??

Im a scrapbooker so it was a given that Im taking my digital camera. My sister just bought a mini cam corder that has a hard drive you download to a computer no tapes or discs. You can film up to 8 hrs at a time with it. We are taking both. Both are pocket size. Lugging around the parks wont be hard. We will have 2 ECVs with baskets. We just need to figure out something for when we go on the rides :)

My camcord is very small .

My problem is I got tired of being a director and not a true guest.

I really enjoy just going with the flow and not trying to get that perfect spot to film .

I guess it all comes down to I was tired of seeing Disney through a 3 in screen. And I was good enough that I could film where I was watching without even looking or having the LCD out.

My thoughts exactly. That's why we alternate. One day we take both video and digital cameras. The next day; only video. The next; only digital and we even stipulate a day where we carry no electronic equipment at all with us to the parks. <--Those are the days we have the most fun but are also only left with our memories instead of video or picture hardcopies.

I just bought a new camcorder, its very small and I plan to bring my digital as well. I also bought cargo shorts to wear for convience. Last time i took around 900 pics, I dont plan on doing that this time, because i really saw my whole vacation through the camera. Got a lot of cool pics, but i left feeling like i didnt see anything. This time, i will use camcorder to be used mainly for rides and of coarse the camera for those character picture ops!! ;)
