Cameras and Video Cameras in the park

On our last trip, I took both, the camcorder and the digital. I used the camcorder and let my DGD take the digital. Turned out, she never took a picture!!!!! I wish that I had kept them both. I love the videos and my other DGDs do also. They will be going on our next trip and I will use both. However, with the PhotoPass, we can have alot of special pictures, too. I guess it is up to the individual. Both the digital and the camcorder are small and do not take alot of space. That is why I take both.

My camcord is very small...And I was good enough that I could film where I was watching without even looking or having the LCD out.

Yeah, I've SEEN those kind of home movies.

Between the 5 of us there are 4 digital cameras, one mini DV and my DH's honkin' huge Sony vid cam that he refuses to part with, lol. It really is a nice camera - all the bells and whistles - but dang, we bought that thing 8 years ago. I've tried to talk him into something smaller, no dice!

I also tried to talk him into leaving it behind, but he LOVES taking video - it's part of the vacation for him. He's constantly wandering along behind us, filming. When we watched the tapes the first time from Disneyland the kids said "Mom, why did Dad tape your butt so much??" :rotfl:

My problem is I got tired of being a director and not a true guest.

Same here...we only take the video camera when we know something
"special" is going on or planned. We average about 1/4 of the time.
But those videos are beyond priceless!!

I've done both. Although on the last trip is was just DW and I so I left the video camera at home and only took my digital SLR. Ended up taking close to 1500 pics in 4 days, but I went with taking a lot of pictures in mind. Had a great time doing it too.

The trip before that I had a digital P&S, a film SLR and a video camera and used them all. It helped that we had a stroller and I could have a place to keep what I wasn't using. Many times I used the digital P&S AND the video camera at the same time. I took 2 years of photography classes in high school and 1 year of audio/video classes in college so I have a pretty good feel for using the equipment. They only way you could tell I was taking pics and video at the same time was by hearing the click going off on the audio part of the video (and also the flash) and then comparing the pics. I almost NEVER let DW use the video camera. She is awful at capturing video. Shaky hands, moves the camera around way to fast, zooms at the wierdest times, etc... So occassinally I'll let her use the still camera. Otherwise I do it all and LOVE doing it too!

Digital camera for the first year we went but last year I used that and a miniDv camera a bought. This year I plan on using both. I have the digial on my belt loop and hold the DV cause it's small and doesn't really get in the way.

I take both. I use the camcorder mostly for character meals or other things. I do take both though because you just never know ;)

I have a digital camcorder, both that and my camera can fit in a very small bag so it isn't burdensome at all to carry around.
