Camera

I can't bear to leave my D7000 behind so it remains my WDW camera of choice with my iPhone for unexpected shots when the big boy is put away and things that might involve more than a trace of water.

I have an Op-Tech harness that saved my aching neck and shoulders. It looks a bit dorky but distributes the weight of the camera well. I also like that it keeps the camera close to my body - I never liked the swinginess of a strap. I tried the Black Rapid strap because it has such rave reviews but it just freaked me out as I was always afraid my camera would somehow detach and crash to the ground.

I will say that I used to be quite unhappy dealing with a big camera at WDW with both the current camera and its predecessor. I spent too much time worrying about protecting it, complaining about lugging it and an extra lens or two around, etc. It was just too much trouble and all I wanted was a small pocket camera. Then I got on a kick where I took the camera everywhere. I rarely leave the house without it so it basically lives in a neoprene case in a corner of my everyday bag. I don't worry about it breaking, I'm used to the extra weight, and I love it to pieces. And it is joyful to have it at my favorite place in the World.

It's an understandable concern, when I first got the strap I found it comfortable but scary, and it took me a while to learn to trust it. It really does hold perfectly fine though, even with my 6D and 24-105mm on it. I have yet to try it with any real big guns (like the 70-200/2.8) but for something like that, I'd be afraid to let it hang on any strap.

Another vote here for the BlackRapid straps. I lasted maybe an hour with the factory Nikon strap that came with my D7000. The BR may be expensive but it's worth every penny to me!

Another vote for the Crumpler Industry Disgrace! I do event photography at a community/culture centre and I have to wear my camera for hours on end while working. The Industry Disgrace saved my neck, and sometimes I wear it cross-body, which is comfortable too.

For me it's my Canon S110. Takes amazing pictures and videos and easily fits in my pocket too. Had the Canon S95 and liked it so much that I recently upgraded to the S110.

Can I piggy back on this?

I am looking for a new camera before my 2014 trip (yea, I have some time I know). I would like it to be easy to carry with the small park bag I have, durable (waterproof would be awesome but not required), decent zoom and shots (I am not a professional by any stretch of the word but want it to look nice), and I would prefer it be under $300 but willing to go up to $500 IF there is a big enough difference.

Video would be nice too!

These questions are good on the photography board too where people can give you a lot of personal input based on your wish list.

Oh, thank you for that! I hadn't even looked to see if there was one. I get so used to going to the same few boards that I think I forget there is more :lmao:. I will go look over there now.

There have been cases of tripod mounts failing with BR straps and cameras crashing to the ground. I don't think it's common at all, but it can happen. Then again there are other parts that can fail with other straps and send your camera to an early grave.

Great point...at the end of the day sometimes stuff happens. And if it does, that's what insurance is for. :)

I love my Black Rapids straps...used them for a couple of years now and have never had an issue.
