Camera strap

Then we have done our job right?!

OK, had a few good gigs this weekend, and cooked for about 300 people over 2 days, so I rewarded myself and ordered the RS-5... I'm looking forward to it.

I know there have been several different Disney themed camera straps throughout the years. I have seen pictures of some, but I wanna see pictures of your Disney camera straps. Could be Mickey or other characters, could be park specific, etc.

Please show me what you have. Thanks!

Not to bump up a too old thread, but I can't watch the instructional videos right now since my internet keeps acting wacky and wanted to know---

With the Black Rapid strap attached, can you still mount the camera to the tripod? If I'm not mistaken, the connector to the strap gets screwed into the tripod socket and I didn't know if I'd have to remove it in order to put on my quick release plate and use the fireworks.

Don't worry, I don't have one (yet), this is just more for curiosity's sake. I'm not crazy about the neck strap when I'm out shooting and am looking into either a hand strap or strap that's long enough to be worn across the body.

Thanks!

Ann:

The first and second connector to the camera were the reason I did not get the Black Rapid earlier. They looked exceptionally bulky and I just did not trust them. The current version is much much better. It is small and has a rubber compression ring on it to secure it to the camera. Yes it does secure itself in the tripod screw, unless you are using a telephoto that has a mounting bracket.

I do not find it difficult to remove, if I need a tripod. Since my camera has a RRS bracket already on it, I just remove the fastener from the bottom of my RRS bracket and I am good to go. the fastener will stay attached to the strap.

There are some new videos that give some good tips on using the strap that I found helpful. They had a great tip to moisten the rubber tip before fastening to make it more secure.

The Black Rapid strap is the only strap I will use if I am going out for a day of shooting. I give Mark "The Great One" credit for introducing me to it.

I did realize that I have to figure something out for when I want to take my camera just to have it there. I met some friends at the mall yesterday for lunch. It was the birthday of the friend's daughter. I wanted my camera with me but knew I would only be using my camera sparingly. I did not want to have that long strap around me knowing I would not use my camera much. My solution was to slip back on my Optech strap and leave the connector on the bottom. I carried it around the mall with me but just a little. I am sure I will figure something out.

How quick is it to detach the camera from that strap? That's one of my only concerns at this point. A BR strap is on my list of stuff to pick up before my next trip... but I want to be able to take the camera off and put it on the table when eating, etc.

Groucho the connector connects to the strap with a screw locking latch.
It is easy to unlatch but safe to leave on there. It works very well. The camera connector is now small enough to put a camera on a table with out it falling over.

I use a Manfrotto plate, and they say that the D-ring on the bottom which is used to tighten the screw to attach the plate to the camera is NOT sturdy enough to trust to hook the BR to.

So, I have to unscrew the plate and screw on the BR connector.

On the BR forums, some people have some workarounds, and BR says they are working on a modification that will let people keep the plate on and use the BR.

Regards,

Boris

I've been on the fence for quite a while. That change may be just enough to tip me over the edge and get me to buy one.

I got the RS-4 after returning the RS-5. I am much happier with it. Now to find some time to spend a day shooting somewhere to see how it works for an extended period of time. So far I really like it.

Why did you return the RS-5 and switch to the RS-4?

I found the RS-5 to be way too bulky, and that was before I even put anything into the compartments. While it sounded really great in theory, as a pratical application, I would have used it once or twice and discarded it.

Does anyone know how much the large Mickey camera strap for a SLR camera is at WDW? I sent a $25 gift card with some friends to get me one but she just texted me on her way home and said it was only $18. That sounds cheap. Do you think they got me the right one?

Picked up this one at WDW in October and it was only $18. I was pleasantly surprised at the price also. Shhhh, don't tell Disney that we'd be willing to pay more!! :rotfl:

I have only seen one type. The print has changed over the years, but they have all been made the same way.

Thanks that is great!! I can't wait to get it on my new camera!! I bought one of the smaller ones for my PNS a couple of years ago and I thought I paid that much for it.

Can I ask what camera do you have this strap attached to, I've seen this at Disney and thought about picking it up but was afraid that it would be strong enough for my Canon 50D.

It will be more than strong enough for your 50D. I used one with my Nikon D50 with a 70-300mm VR lens with no problems at all. Although I will have to say, that while it is a much better strap than the straps that come with the camera's, its still not as good as an Op/Tek or a Black Rapids.

Its a nice strap to have for occassional use, but after walking around the parks all day, I bought an Op/Tek (and have since bought a Black Rapids).

I have to tell you guys, that I bought one of the mickey straps, and it absolutely rubbed my neck raw in just a few days. I actually took it off my camera and went back to my old one. I know us "artists" should suffer for our art, but c'mon.
I havent used it sense then.

Does anyone know if you can wash it with some fabric softener or something?

Matt
