Thanks for posting, as I was wondering the same thing for myself. For people who do vote for bringing the DSLR, what is a good backpack type carrying bag for the parks? I also have a Canon Rebel.

Loads of options -- I currently use a Lowepro Slingshot 200. Not quite a backpack -- it only has one shoulder strap. But that means it is quick to access anytime you need it, and quick to take off when you have an opportunity to sit down. There are three sizes for his bag -- the 100, 200, and 300. The 200 is the mid size version. For me, it holds my camera (a Nikon D300, which is a bit larger and heavier than a Rebel) with a lens attached, as well as two or three more lenses (but I have to get a bit creative to put the third one in there), extra memory cards, various cables and filters, and other assorted things (for example, I keep a very small plastic container of cleaned pre-1983 pennies for the penny-press machines, and another identical container to hold pennies that have been pressed, in one of the pockets).
My wife has the 100 version, which is the smallest of the three. She has a slightly smaller camera and a couple of lenses where I usually carry four, and in general keeps much less in her bag than I do in mine. And she usually doesn't take her camera into the parks, where I almost always do.
I have the Slingshot 202AW, and a Flipside 300. The Slingshot will be travelling with me to WDW tommorow for use in the parks. I tend to use the Flipside as a transport pack, which gets left in the room (i.e. on DCL).
