Camera -- Need a new one. Any Tips?

Wife's Canon digital point and shoot died during the Mother's Day rush of photos.

Would like to get her a new one before summer holidays. Looking for real world suggestions.

She is a smart woman. Has her CPA license, manages lots of employees, etc.

But, she is not the most technically inclined person ever.

So:

1) Easy to operate
2) Ability to override/adjust some automatic settings (such as flash).
3) Easy to operate
4 Quick recycling -- ie -- when you push the shoot button, it does not take forever to take the picture -- and it is ready to shoot again in a reasonable time.

Any suggestions....Oh, again, we are talking somewhat simple. No SLR's need apply.

Nikon coolpix. Super easy to use, small, fits in my purse at Disney, it has decent zoom, can't say enough. Good pictures too.

After doing some research I ended up choosing the Olympus VR340. Its available on Amazon in a couple of colors, often less than $85. Big selling points for me were 16MP and a 10x OPTICAL zoom. Really happy with it outside. Inside is ok. Suggestion is to make sure no matter what camera you pick, to get an SD card with a rating of Class 10. This provides for that quicker cycling time you are looking for.

I just bought a Panasonic lumix zs25. It has 20x optical zoom. It is replacing a different Panasonic lumix I had. I've only had it a week but the pictures look amazing.

IF the camera actually makes use of the class 10 specification. Many will happily use a class 10 card but not read the card any faster so YMMV. On many P&S a class 6 should be fine. (Though you can never go wrong with a class 10!)

I'd recommend a Canon Elph or the Canon powershot SX510 (but I'm a Canon guy!)

I have a Panasonic Lumnix, you can't beat it. I talked myself into it instead of dragging DSLR on the Bermuda cruise and I loved it. Many pictures of trains and Niagara Falls I have sold prints from it.

When I replaced an older one, I went with more zoom and 16 mp. I can't find an issue or complaint. Dark photos, night, pitch black in a basement, they come out fantastic.

We've been using the Olympus Tough series cameras for years now, and have been very pleased.
The TG 2 is what I have now, but I believe the TG3 is out. WATER PROOF, DROP PROOF...etc...they have done the job...and still fit in my pocket!

I to am looking for a smaller camera that has a good zoom and so far have narrowed it down to the Canon powershot sx280 hs or the Nikon s9700. The have a great zoom for a small compact camera and fits easily in a purse/pocket and not overly expensive.

It has a 30 X zoom .
I love it!

I have the Canon Powershot Elph 300 and I love it!! It's super compact, recycles quickly*, takes great photos on Auto (there's the option to turn the flash off all together) plus there are a ton of shooting modes. I'm amazed at how great some of my pictures turn out.

*There are some modes that take longer, specifically one of the night modes (a few seconds) and the "Best in series" mode which takes 3 pictures in quick succession then selects the best one (this doesn't take too long, just longer than taking one shot).

I recently purchased this one based on recommendations from DisBoards and I LOVE it!!! I needed something point and shoot and something fairly compact. This camera can do a lot of things that I don't use (like B&W, sepia, and other contrasts), but my kids have played with them. It takes amazing low-light pictures, which was what I wanted. Day light pictures are also fantastic (much better than my Sony CyberShot). Not sure what your budget is, but here's a link:

I've been happy with the Panasonic Lumix as well.

Simple to use and also pretty easy to figure out the features.

We took a family shot (ten people) at 'Ohana and I had the 'Ohana photographer take a couple of shots with my Lumix.

Several family members bought the package at 'Ohana. I took my sd card to CVS and got a couple of 5 x 7's made for those of us that didn't want the package.

The pictures from CVS that cost $2 each looked just as good as the ones from the package.

I had been keeping an eye on Panasonic Lumix since reading several recommendations for it here on Disboards. A few weeks ago, this was Amazon's deal of the day : http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ATE7W7G/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. On that day it was $109, and I snapped it up.
I have been extremely pleased with it. I am a professional photographer, but wanted a small camera to carry around for snapshots. The zoom on this is amazing. I love the fact that I don't have to change a setting to switch back and forth between photos and video. (It has a separate button for each.) fantastic at fireworks shots, dim lighting, automatically merges several exposures for back-lit scenes. Just printed a new family portrait taken with this camera as a gallery wrapped canvas. Looks fantastic. Just couldn't be happier with this camera. (Unless it used AA batteries - that would have been nice!)

I bought the Lumix LF1 and I'm amazed at how good the pictures look. My only negative is the size, it's bigger than my old camera but the photo quality is worth it.
