camera memory sticks available at gift shops?

I am in the middle of planning the photo part of our trip
I would call myself a low end amature photographer ...meaning I love taking pics and editing them on the computer and making video/ paper scrapbooks. I always have my camera with me haha everyone always LOVES the pics I take even though I have never taken classes =)
As of now I have a sony cybershot 7.2
I am thinking of getting the cybershot 12.0 (dsc-w200 i think is the model)

Anyway... I have a 4gig memory card in my camera and IF I get the newer cybershot I will get the 8gig memory card (as I said I take tons of candid shots as I always find those are my BEST shots once I get rid of the messed up ones...)

IF I run out of space on my memory stick do any of the gift shops carry memorystick duos (sony)?
I would think 8gig would be enough but.....

They should have them at each of the camera spots at the parks, but please keep in mind that they are going to be pretty expensive compared to your local Target, Best Buy, etc. I have a Sony H1 and have 4 2gb memory sticks. Each of the sticks hold over 800 pictures in the best level. I get nervous of too high level of sticks, as if they fail, there is so many pictures that would be lost.

Not really... see my older camera uses a memory stick pro
recently Sony went to memory stick pro duo which is a smaller stick.
The dsc-w200 only takes the pro duo

I have over 450 pictures taken at 5 MP on my 1GB Pro Duo. I would think that an 8GB would be enough, especially if you go through the pictures every so often and clear out the bad pictures.

Remember that even if they carry them, the price will come dear. I would pick up an extra at WalMart, or online before you go. I can usually fit 800-1000 on my Cybershot, which is pretty much shooting constantly.

I'm sure they have them but you are going to pay a premium price for it. I seriously suggest taking care of potential camera needs BEFORE you leave home. I you do have a unexpected camera problem never buy anything in the parks. There are plenty of camera shops on International Drive and other local areas.

I just bought the sony dsc t200 camera, and it is wonderful!

I got a 4gb card and it holds soooo many pics!

We are also bringing our laptop and downloading to it every couple days.

Well, now you are on the Photography Board! Welcome. We are a nice, fun loving group that are here to help.

That being said, I will tell you 2 things that you will probably hear:

Upgrading one point and shoot camera at 7.2 MP to one that is 12 MP may result in dissapointing photos for you. Especially in lower light situations. More MP does not always add up to better pictures. This is especially the case if the sensor size is the same between the two cameras. This is not too hard to find out. Let me look:

I think the sensor on the 12MP may be slightly larger than that of the 7MP, however, the following webiste says this (as I suspected).

"However, when it comes to image-related performance and image quality, the W200 tanks, mostly because of that unnecessary 12-megapixel sensor. Though it's physically larger than the 8-megapixel sensor in the W90, the pixels still must be insanely small. That's the only reason I can think of for the W200 to be such a light vampire, simply incapable of exposing shots at ISO 100 that most snapshot cameras can handle without problem. I too often found it necessary to boost the ISO setting to at least ISO 400 in order to use a reasonable shutter speed--even with SteadyShot enabled--while shooting in very bright sunshine."

That would be enough to make me stick with the 7MP. If it ain't broke, don't buy a new one.


As for the second question, I cannot answer if they carry sony sticks in WDW. However, I can say (as the others have) that if they do, they will be insanely expensive compared to what you can get them for elsewhere. I paid over 5X the price (compared to newegg prices) for a 500MB SD card 3 years ago. It is not something that I wanted to do, but I HAD to at the time. Oh well. Live and learn.

Anyways, I am sure that others on here will also give good advice. Keep asking questions. There really aren't any questions that won't get answered on here. Heck, we had a couple page dscussion about pies a little while ago and I won't even mention the 5 page discussion we had a couple months ago!

What ever you do with your camera situation, don't put all your pictures on a single card. If you were going for say a week, and left all your pictures on the same card, and on day 7 your card fails, you have no memories of your trip left, and no time to go back and try and recapture any of them.

Get yourself a couple of smaller cards, and better yet, transfer them to something safer every evening. I take my laptop and burn dvds.

Your just asking for heartbreak working with a single stick.

You can have pics transfered to CD in the parks for like $15 or so (if that's incorrect, please correct me). I do believe that you will not get all your pics from your card on the CD, but it will clear out 120-150 or so.

Best bet. Go on newegg.com, buy.com or some place local to you and buy a new card, even if it is just a 2GB card. You can never have enough memory. Better to have to much than not enough. Prices on media cards have been coming down a lot. I recently bough 2 2GB SanDisk Ultra II cards for $20 each. If you look enough you'll find a good deal.

I did research all day on digital cameras... I did read about the sensor thing.
I really like my cybershot 7.1m .. I really do. The only reason I was thinking of the newer cybershot was because the memory stick pro's are harder and harder to find as Sony went with the memory stick duos. I know there is a converter but I don't trust it with my family vacations.

I did find an online store that sells the memory stick pro's so I am going to stick with my old camera.

I also see some good advice here are having several smaller cards than 1 large card. I think I am going to get 4-5 2 gig cards (I like to take small video clips of the kids as well as pics) for our 6 day trip.

Now I am off to read about the tips on getting better shots in those "hard to shoot" areas.

I have always wanted one so it wouldn't be that far of a stretch ... maybe santa will think I have been good and leave one under the tree for me right before our trip

Of course, I'm just kidding about Canon. I personally like them, but there are quite a few great brands out there. Canon, Nikon and Pentax are the most popular (not necessarily in that order) but there are also Sony's (I think) and others that do a GREAT job as well.

If your seriously concidering a dSLR, I would not wait untill just before your trip. There is a pretty good learning curve if you want to get the most out of what is a pretty expensive purchase. The entry level dSLRs do have preset modes, but they are limited in their ability to use the full functionality of the camera.
