We just bought a brand new digital camera. I was so excited to bring it to Disney, but now I'm thinking about why not to bring it.

Reasons:

Lugging it around all day
Having to bring a backpack for it
Theft (Main reason)

Could you try and convince me to bring it please? I really want to! Thanks! :thumbsup2 :cool1:

I'm wondering how big it is if you need a backpack for it.

I just carry ours around in my pocket.

ummmmmm reasons to bring it???

1. because you didnt spend all that money to leave it at home
2. to capture those disney "kodak moments"
3. because you'll kick yourself if you dont
4. because you'll want something to remember your trip by...

do you want me to continue?!? lol :bounce:

I've got a digital SLR - so I know what you mean. However, I only have to look at the photos I took on my previous visits to see how valuable they are when it comes to remembering the magic. A decent camera does it so much better too. I wish I'd used my 35mm SLR on my second trip as I had done on my first, but I chose to travel light and use the digital still facility on my camcorder. The results were very disappointing.

I think theft is pretty unlikely - but protect against this by insurance (and keep a watchful eye on the camera)

The lugging around all day and taking a backpack are cause and effect. The backpack will help prevent theft and will make the lugging easier, but I know it is still a grind. I've got a mini camera backpack which makes it a bit more tolerable.

My DD14 and I brought our digital cameras with us. We really weren't to concerned with theft because we had our cameras on us all the time. We needed a backpack for misc stuff anyway. (Like rain ponchos, bandaids, motrin, small purchases, etc.)
What will you bring in place of your camera?? A disposable one won't have nearly as good quality and you can't beat seeing your pictures right away. There are so many cool things to photograph there.
Whatever you decide HAVE FUN!!!

I bought DH a new digital kodak easy share. It's real tiny, I'm thinking I could just carry it in my pocket.. or in my hand (it has a strap)
How big is the camera?

We have several cameras & my DW insists on bring the $900.00 one. We just keep it in a comfortable backpack and have honestly (tho maybe foolishly) left it in the stroller many times to see a show or to go on a ride. Never had a problem! You don't want to miss those magic shots...well worth the small risk if there is any! :thumbsup2

so you can email pictures to friends and relatives
so you can post them here on the DIS
to create your own magic in your home of the pictures YOU took

how big is the camera, I carry my sony in my pocket, and my DVD cam on my shoulder, and when I'm tired of carrying the DVD, it fits into the fanny pack on my waist. Don't miss those special shots.

You bought it just for times like this, right? Don't be afraid of theft, as long as you aren't putting it down and walking away from it, there is practically no chance of someone stealing it. :sunny:

My motto - "Don't leave home without it". Visits to Disney are about making lasting memories, and what better way than in pics!

4-5 times a year, and ALWAYS bring my Camera....sometimes I bring 2... a Digital AND an "old Fashioned" one. ;) One clips on my belt loop, the other gets carried in the fanny pack. :thumbsup2

Martha - I know you live close to WDW and I know you go alot but do you really bring your camera each and every time you go? We have been numerous times in the last few years and my DH would love it if I didn't have to bring my camera - he feels I have taken pictures of everything already. But it seems I end up taking more pictures each time I go so I am afraid I will never be able to ditch the camera. Is this how you feel or do you sometimes go to the parks without the camera?

(Am I the only one who remembers that little WDW ditty?)

I have found, over the years, that my recollection of how fun a trip was is in direct proportion to how many pictures I have. Even if you've been there a million times, you never know what you might want to snap a picture of. And the neat thing about digital is that THEY'RE ALL FREE! (Okay, not quite so free when amortized against the cost of the camera, but you've already bit the bullet on that part.)

Take it!

Makin' memories!
Bring it!
Get a shoulder strap for it. I've seen some HUGE ones on shoulder straps without the case. I think it'll be fine!
Seriously, what better moments do you get in life? The vacation/relaxation ones are the best! :thumbsup2

This camera is NEW NEW right? Convincing should be easy if it hasn't been done already. :teeth:

Lugging? How BIG of a camera are we talking here? Is it like my dad's old Cannon 35mm with the lens attachments the size of the Hubble telescope? (and pretty much the same weight too?) Chances are if it's new it weighs much less than you think and your water bottle will weigh 4x more.

Backpack? not nessesary unless you want one. I used to strap my camera to my wrist and cup it with my hand. In my age I've broken down and now carry a small old navy cotton bag over my shoulder for my essentials. It works well and is more comforable than carrying my purse at home. The down side is it's harder to take those spur of the moment pics.

Theft? Why did you buy it? Does it really look that great as a paper weight? IMHO, it's more likely to be stolen off your dresser at home than in your bag (unless you plan on loosing your bag)
