Hello!!!!

I *had* a Canon A620
sadly, it broke last year and fixing it was the same price as a new camera.

enter...new camera: Canon A720

I do not like this camera. I find it is WAYYYYYY to long to wait to refresh after taking a flash photo, about 6 or so seconds, maybe a bit longer at times. This is too long when using the camera for photos of my children. I get very frustrated as I often miss the shot. ALSO I find that the pictures aren't the greatest on it.

I miss my A620.

Meanwhile, today I was given a gift of the Canon A2100 IS. I was told to play and see what I thought of it, with the refresh rate etc.

I have looked on line and found contradicting reviews. One saying that it doesn't compare to the older A series cameras, and shame on Canon for doing away with what worked, to another that said it was great, yet later on the article said that a "G" was better.

ANYWAY now I am toooooooootally confused, and I knew that there would be some great advice and comments to be found here.

Help???

The "G" series is a completely different level of camera. They are about as advanced as you can get without going to a DSLR. They also cost twice as much as your camera.

Yep, I see that.
Problem is that I need a camera that is small, yet has a good flash refresh rate. I hate how long it takes. I played with my current and then as well with the new camera, and between both the longest refresh wait was 9 seconds, with the average being about 6/7seconds.

Maybe I need to stop comparing to my old and broken A620, which, was a fantastic camera. But since it is older, I guess I have a hard time believing that the newer ones won't do what I want them to do

When Canon redesigned the A series, going from 4 AA cells to 2, the reduced battery capacity resulted in increased flash cycle time. Check DPReview.com to see flash cycle times for various cameras. Cameras with larger lithium cells probably do best in this regard but there is nothing like an external flash for quick cycling. Some P&S cameras (like Canon's G series) support external flashes.
