camera case count as a carry-n at airport?

The case is a small one...14x7. 10 inches deep. I hope I can carry this along with my carry-on. Anyone know?

Typically, you are allowed to bring one carry-on and one personal item onto a plane with you. The carry-on can be a suitcase with your clothes and your personal item can be camera bag, purse, laptop bag, etc.----basically anything that can fit underneath the seat in front of you.

It depends. If the plane is full, almost all of the carry on space is taken, and you are ahead of me, they will definitely let you carry it on.

I would never every check my camera gear. I carry-on a photo backpack that I know will fit under the seat. That way if I happen to board late and the over heads are full I know the camera gear will stay with me.

The rules (very loosely enforced, if at all) mention one carry-on bag and one smaller item (like a camera bag). The "smaller item" size is not defined, 14 x 7 x 10 may be pushing the boundaries. I only mention this because I once had the dreaded "C" boarding pass on Southwest. As I was boarding, the flight attendants announced the overheads were full and anything that did not fit under the seat would be gate checked. In that case you might have to choose between your camera bag or your carry-on bag.

Unless you are among the last to board this is not likely to be a problem, I have only seen it happen that one time but we usually fly in off-peak times.

thank you, everyone for your answers. I think my purse will go in my suitcase and tickets and ID,etc, in the camera case with me.
