I stumbled onto the map once before and I just did a google search on the site for a .pdf file and it came right up. I glad it will help.

Hi,

The search feature seems to be gone and I am sure this has been asked before. What do you all recommend for a camera bag to lug around the parks. I have a Sony Alpha 100 and 4 lens. what will protect them but give me ease of use to get at them when I need to change my lens. What do you use? Any ideas or links would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Bug

it might help others to answer if they know what 4 lenses you are dealing with...

I personally prefer to wear a vest. I have all my batteries, memory cards, lenses held close, no need to deal with a bag, while taking pics, eating, going on rides..etc.

the only drawback is the number of guests that stopped me thinking I was a photopass photographer..LOL

even cast members would strike up conversations with me thinking I was one of their fellow cast members..:thumbsup2

Lowepro Slingshot 200

This is my favorite camera back. It may not be enough for you and if not there is a larger version the slingshot 300. It comes with an all weather (waterproof) cover. For me it is very comfortable to wear and very easy for me to access everything while still wearing it.

I have the bag Jen mentioned above also and I really like it. It's very easy to wear and accessible to the lenses. My husband didn't complain once when he shlepped it around Disneyland for me last September ;).

there is a bit of overlap with your lenses, any particular reason to carry all 4,unless the 30mm or 18-50 are fast lenses I'd just carry the 18-70 and the 75-300...

I generally have my 28-75 2.8 on my camera and carry my 80-200 2.8 with me... for AK I might take my 100-300 for the extra reach, but in the other parks I think it would be a waste of energy to carry..LOL

in another 2 months when I pick up my second body, I'll keep the 28-75 on one caamera, the 80-200 on the other and carry both cameras around my neck, just like the good old days when I carried 2 Minolta 9000s,, one sporting a 35-105 , the other a 100-300..

I still have those lenses and could use them, but I've gotten really used to the 2.8s..

a good vest eliminates the need for a bag..

I generally keep my batteries, memory, cleaning supplies etc in the vest at all times,

camera, lenses and chargers are in my bag,

when I get to my shoot location, whether it be WDW, the PA Renn Fairre, a sporting event..

I put the lenses I need in the vest grab my camera, put the bag in my trunk and I'm off shooting for the day

The lens are:

75-300mm-4.5-5.6
18-50mm-2.8
30mm-1.4

What would you suggest I carry around. I want to take photos on the dark rides and at evening parades and fire works-figured I needed the 30mm f/1.4 for that. I thought i might only carry the 75-300 on the days I am at the san diego zoo or like animal kingdom when I want to get close up of the animals. other pictures would be in daylight conditions of the kids and day parades so on. Could I get away with the 18-50mm f/2.8 and leave the 18-70mm-3.5-5.6 home?

Thanks for your help :)

i have a tamrac system 3 that fits my rebel xt body, and lenses ;70-200 f4, 28-135, 10-17, 100mm macro, 1.4 teleconverter and i can usually squeeze in my 50mm..but if i want to lift it i leave out the macro or what ever lenses i don't think i'll use. it's nice because it has a piggyback thing so you can put it over a rolling suitcase, or in my case my husbands rolling art bag so i don't have to carry it but it also can go on a belt or has a pretty good non- slip shoulder strap...i'm happy with it. i had a backpack before but while it's great, cheap and holds everything i don't care for backpacks since you have to take them off to get into them

you could probably manage without the extra 20mm that the 18-70 gives you, if you want the shot tighter you can crop later..

as for the 75-300 I need to change my earlier answer..LOL

I've been watching other people answer that one so often that I gave their answer not mine....

although I agree that 300 is too much for most needs at WDW, I like to have mine along for one specific reason, I have gotten some great head shots at meet & greets or during parades, by being able to stand back and zoom in past the crowds..

if you decide to try a vest, PM me and I can give you info on my source, I've bought 3 from the same guy,,, 10-20 cheaper than other sources sell the exact same vest..

Its really going to depend mostly on what your shooting habits are. You can probably get away without needing the 18-70 if you have the 18-50 f/2.8. The 75-300mm I would bring to AK and Disney Studios if you plan on doing Indiana Jones and Lights Motor Action, otherwise you may not need it (again depending on your shooting style). I like Mickey88's idea that the 70-300 would also be good for the day time parades, definately something to think about. I used my 30mm f/1.4 a lot on my last trip (over 1000 pic's taken with just that lens).

So lets say that you have 3 lenses. 1 is going to be on the camera, so you have to find a place for 2 and sometimes only 1 (again depending on your shooting habits).

Most days I went to the parks with 4 lenses (though 1 lens, the 50mm f/1.8, is small enough to fit in my pocket). I use 2 Tamrac lens pouches that attach to my belt. I have the large size and medium size. These worked great for me. Even with my large size (6' 290lbs) I could sit on the rides while the pouches were on with no real problems. I kept my camera around my neck or in my hands unless we were eating, then I would just place it on the table.

I've used backpacks on previous trips and found it to be more of a pain when wanting to switch lenses.

for a man i really think this would be the ideal situation, hands free, everything where you need it. and tamrac even sells those filter and memory cases that can go right on a strap..to bad i hate belts and most womans' pants don't need them:rotfl: you could get even one of those little protector type things to protect the camera and be set...i'm jealous:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

a vest works just as well..

I'm curious why is it ideal for a man, why couldn't a woman use the same setup

I use a smaller bag, but all I can say is that carrying around my Domke is more comfortable than pajamas.....

most of my pants don't use a belt so nothing to hook the lens holders to and the belts they sell to go with them look kind of like weight lifter belts to me and pretty un fashionable:rotfl:

It's a fashion thing--just doesn't go with my outfit. ;) Plus, given the popularity of lower rise pants these days, I'm afraid the added weight of a couple of lenses on my belt would soon have my pants somewhere below the equator. :lmao: And, as Janet said, many women don't wear belts very often. I don't usually wear one with the shorts in which I've traipsed around WDW.

sounds like a photo op for a photographer who is always ready...:thumbsup2
