I have the Kodak Slice.. Pretty nice camera to say the least.. Anyway, I have one 4GB microSD card along with one battery. I can take 1122 10MP pictures (the camera is actually 14MP) or 29 minutes of 720HD video.. For being a big fan of photography, and going to DW from June 6 to June 10 of this year, I am freaking out. I do not know if I will have enough memory or battery to last the whole day.. I also don't want to go all out on buying stuff for my camera, but I think I might have to do that. So, I guess I want people's experiences involved with picture taking at DW, and to give me advice about panic attacks for photography.. Thanks in advance for your input!!

First of all, if you really want a lot of great advice, post your question on the photography board. They know just about everything about camera related topics and are friendly. Personally, I would get at least one more card, maybe two. I have 2 8gb cards (total of 16gb) because I don't want to worry about running out of memory while out taking pictures. And realistically, if you take enough photos to fill your card halfway or more, you may not feel like going through all of those files right away at the end of the day, and if you have a backup, you don't have to.

I am new to the DIS forums. So, could you tell me where the photography section is??

It really depends on the individual, but I know that it would be nowhere near enough for me. If you are just planning on taking photos than you may have enough space, but if you are planning on shooting video I doubt you will.

Also, I'm not sure how long the battery on that camera lasts, but I doubt it will survive an entire day at the parks. If you are planning on returning to your resort for a break in the afternoon and charge it then, you may be OK.

Some options:
  1. Buy an extra microSD card. A quick look on Amazon listed 4 and some 8gb for under $10
  2. Buy an extra battery. 3rd party ones are also under $10 on Amazon.
  3. If you are bringing a laptop you could back up your photos onto it and clean off the card for more photos.
  4. You may be able to back up your card at the parks, but it would probably cost you as much as a card does.

If you want to make sure you can get all the photos you want I would suggest option 1 and 2. If you want to stick with what you have just plan on being very specific on what you shoot. :confused3

You should always have more than one memory card. You never know when one could fail! They're pretty cheap these days too (unless you're dealing with CF).

Also, do you have a laptop that you could bring with you? That way, each night (or whenever you go back to the room) you can upload all your photos on to the laptop and clear your memory cards to make more room. It will also let you view your photos on a big screen. During the day, I delete the photos that I know are bad. However, until I see some of them on the big screen, I can't really tell so I leave them on the camera. They also make portable viewing hard drives (Epsom makes a nice one). It allows you to upload your photos and videos, etc to the device and view them on a small screen. You can buy them without screens too. Another alternative but a pain is to head to CVS or Walmart and get a cd of your photos made every few days.

Finally, the Photography Thread is near the bottom under Just For Fun (3rd one). Lots of great advice, photos, etc.

Be sure to write your phone # or email on the memory card too, if it's possible. If by chance you lose it, etc you might get lucky. What some people do is take a photo of a business card, then lock it (that photo) so it won't be deleted when you format your card.

Last time I went down my family split SD cards. I let my mom and sister take my 16 GB one because they were traveling abroad.

I wound up having to buy another 4 GB memory card because I took legitimately 15 GB of pictures during the week I was down there. It all depends on how many photographs you want to take. Cards are no longer that expensive, so I would recommend getting another one.

I personally think you will want another card, but this is coming from someone who on average takes 3500 pictures in a week trip. I take my laptop with me and upload the pictures every night to my computer. We have a 16gb card and taking the pictures in the biggest format I can only take about 600 pictures, we also bought an extra battery, so we know we won't run out of space.
