We cannot afford to go two weeks at one of the DLH (my dream). However these two hotels (camelot and tropicana) are what i have narrowed my hotels down to. We really want walking distance (ie: across the street). We walked from the fairfield in 2000, and it was fine, so now I understand these two are closer. So..... what are the pros and cons of these ones? Am I missing any other good ones? I don't qualify for the HoJo ent rate when we are going.... so..... thoughts?

I haven't stayed at either, but friends of ours stayed at the Trop for about a week last summer and really liked it.

We stayed at the Tropicana las week. We LOVED the closeness to the park! It was a very easy walk...and we had small kids. Our room was clean, bright and didn't stink haha...We were on the third floor near the hospitality room which I would request that area again! It was nice to be near the cont. bfast and I didn't really have noise problems. There were some loud ppl in the pool one night (during the cheerleader convention), so i bet the noise may be worse closer to the pool, but really i was so tired nothing bothered me... The kids said the pool was warm. The cont bfast could be a bit better, but did the job (pastries, muffins, apples, oranges, orajge juice, some sort of rasberry juice, coffee with condiments and hot chocolate). There was cereal and milk or bagels for $1 each, but we got some milk at the convience store on the fst floor along with lots of water which was cheaper than in the parks....There is an elevator so luggage isn't a problem on stairs....humm what else??

We have stayed at the Desert Inn and Suites twice. Love the closeness to DL entrance! Nice friendly Desk people! Good, clean, quite, indoor pool, gift shop, cont.breakfast. In Jan it was $79.00 except sat, sun were $99.00 for a Parlor A Suite. It had a small livingroom area that doubled as a bedroom with a fold out couch and a door between the main bedroom. Mircowave, refrigerator. Sink outside the bathroom has a hair dryer, bathroom has a tub/shower.

We stayed at the Tropicana last June and had a really nice stay. Clean room, very nice pool and hot tub! Free breakfast was okay (nothing special), but the location is just wonderful.

I've stayed at both and between the 2 I would choose Camelot. The rooms were bigger and nicer. And the free breakfast was a bit nicer than the Tropicana. A few more choices at Camelot including oatmeal. The walk is a bit farther, but still very easy. From the walkway outside our room at the Camelot we could watch the fireworks.

WE stayed at the Tropicana last year and are repeating this year. It's clean, the staff was freindly, and it was super close. The hot tub was hot, the pool on the cool side, but warm enough for a quick swim, and we were near the pool and the noise wasn't too bad.

The breakfast is, as stated, nothing special, but it does the trick if you don't have huge breakfast eaters.

The only thing I really didn't like about the hotel is that the door didn't have an upper chain latch---which I thought was just weird and made me really nervous to hop in the shower in case my daughter opened the door. So I put a chair in front of the door, and then I was worried about a fire. So, if you are traveling alone with a small child or children who are "escapers" this may be something to consider. :scared:

LOVE the Camelot!!! Stayed there 2 years in a row! GREAT service, big clean rooms and great location. Pool is small but if you have younger kids it worked great for us as we didn't have to go in the water! I think the 2 properties are owned by the same people.

Our second favorite hotel is the Tropicana. We stay there when the HoJo doesn't have the Ent Rate available. We've always enjoyed our stays there.

We'll be staying at the Tropicana for the third time this June. Ditto to everyone....breakfast isn't spectacular, but everyone was happy with it. Rooms are clean, and the place is super close. Which is wonderful if you have to haul a 40+ pound sleeping child back to the room at the end of a long day in the parks.

Tropicana hands down for me! I LOVE IT THERE!!! My family loves it there and its definately our #1 choice. I would suggest though calling and asking for a 3rd floor room. That way there is no one over top of you to stomp etc. Not that I heard any noise anyway.

Pros: Clean, Friendly Staff, Nice Pool, quiet, super duper close to the park, they have a convenience store attached which is fantastic, free continental breakfast which my whole family thought wasnt that bad as we found it better then other hotels we have stayed at, restaurants all around you, the bus stop is right infront so if you are taking a day tour through gray line the bus picks you up right outside the hotel, and another thing is that they are more then willing to hold your luggage for you so if you arrive early they will be more then happy to hold onto your luggage, and if you want information on day tours or info on things to do in the area the staff are so knowledgeable and are more then happy to go out of their way to make calls for transportation, getting you tickets etc.

Cons:
The beds a bit hard, but after a day of walking, playing, laughing, screaming and having the time of your life, your gonna be wiped out anyway and the mattress feels like a cloud.

Love, love, love the Tropicana if it wasn't all booked up that's where I'd be staying in 3 weeks.

I haven't stayed at the Tropicana but we are right now staying at the Camelot. The Tropicana is 2 doors down I think....I use their mini mart regularly so I like that better than what we have here at the Camelot or maybe there is really something here that's just as good only I haven't noticed it yet? Our room is good size at the Camelot but at first I was upset when we checked in we didn't get the room we had booked and paid for (long story on that one and too tired to tell it) but it worked out okay anyway and room we do have is on the 4th floor with a great view of the fireworks and the Mattahorn. Still have yet to try the breakfast so can't comment on that. I've read alot of reveiws that the beds here are really hard. I guess they might be but I'm not having any problems with it at all. Can be a bit noisy but not too bad....doesn't stop me from sleeping. Haven't tried the pool, heck, haven't even looked at it. Sorry, guess I haven't been much help but we would stay here again.
