My sis and I are planning a trip to DL for our families for this coming October. We have narrowed our hotel choices down to a couple on harbor across the street from the parks. One of the top choices is the Camelot Inn and suites. It seems to get good reviews, and its biggest draw for us is location. On some threads I have read that some pp said the beds are hard. I don't expect super plush beds but I don't want to not sleep well and end up regretting that we stayed there. Any experiences, both good and bad, that are fairly recent with staying here would be helpful!
Thanks!

Stayed there twice but honestly can't remember the bed situation! Guess that's both a good and bad thing lol? They are run by the same folks as Tropicana and I have stayed at Tropicana tons (and Tropicana is a few steps closer to the parks) so look into them as well if you're having doubts.

I have stayed here and thought it was great. I had no issue with the beds and you cannot beat the location.

Thanks! I did look into the Tropicana but saw a few reviews that were definitely not favorable as far as cleanliness, so we will most likely stay at the Camelot. We looke at the howard johnson but it hasn't been refurbished since 2001 and the distance is a deal breaker, especially with our almost 2yr old

I understand issues with price or distance with Hojo, but I will comment that the property on Harbor has gone through a lot of upgrades in the last several years, so it doesn't seem wholly accurate to me to say they haven't been refurbished since 2001. The kids' water play area has definitely been installed since 2001. The kid suites were added about 4 or 5 years ago. I think all of the rooms have been upgraded to flat panel t.v.s and keurig machines. Most if not all of the rooms have received new beds in the last 5 years. I've seen fresh paint jobs and new furniture. Some rooms are more fixed up than others, and there's probably not much they can do about the bathrooms, but Hojo has definitely been putting some of the money back into the property on a regular basis.

The mattress there gave us a really bad sleep. It appeared to almost have one of those rubberized protectors on it, which made a noise when you rolled over, and the sheets slid on it causing them to bunch up.
To me a hotel sells "sleep" and when they don't have comfortable linen or beds, then to me they aren't providing what you have purchased.
As you can see by my signature, we've never stayed there again.

We've stayed at Camelot the last 3 trips. The bed is on the firm side; but, I wouldn't call it hard - it's just a firm matteress. We usually stay for 7-8 days per trip, so we've had many a good nights sleep on it.

The rooms are large, clean, and noise protected well enough.

We've had great service from the management and unless something crazy happens in the future - I can't imagine staying anywhere else as you can't beat the location - short walk to the crosswalk to the park & a Pizza Press and McDonalds located on either side.

I've stayed there several times over the last year. Generally I like a softer mattress but I have never had a problem with the mattresses they have.

:thumbsup2 Totally agree - I'd stay again in a second. We went two years ago and found it VERY suitable to our needs and FWIW, the reviews have improved significantly since then so I can't imagine you having a problem. And after long park days you will likely NOT have trouble sleeping! :faint:

Added bonus of the Camelot (since they have discontinued their free breakfast) is that it's right next door to McDonalds - great for morning coffee or cold drinks in the afternoon. Word to the wise, though: DO NOT get lured into Captain Kidd's Buffet at the BWPPI - it's hideous. Have a great trip! :wave2:

We stayed there last month for two nights and enjoyed it. The room was clean and the bed was comfy. We were in the second floor...I would ask to be on the side away from mcdonalds....we were on the parking lot side facing mcdonalds drive thru and it was fine but a bit
Noisy at times. We got to see fireworks from the balcony the first night. It was literally a 5 minute walk to DL!!

Almost all the rooms at the Camelot face McDonalds. Only a few rooms are on the front road, and they get road noise.

We would request a room towards the back of the motel as parking was easier and you could get free wifi from Marriot (Fairfield) next door. Also, ATT has free hotspots if you have DSL though ATT.

Why would you need WiFi from Marriot or a hotspot? Camelot has WiFi, according to their site.

I am glad I came upon this. We are currently booked there for our Oct trip in one of the one bedroom suites, but I have been second guessing the booking. (OP, when in Oct are you there? We are at DLR 10/19-25)

Ahhhh, when we stayed there, wifi was $12.95 a 24 hour period. Great if it is free now.

LOL didn't realize that they all faced either the street or McDonald's. Thanks for clearing that up :)

We are scheduled to be there from the 21st to the 25th. But we might need to change our time to the week after Thanksgiving.

We will be there Saturday-Tuesday this week! We did the Fairfield in October with 4 and it was fine, but we have 7 this trip so I needed a suite and the Camelot has a great price and was one hotel closer!
On a side note, we stopped at the McDonalds on our way to the park each morning we didn’t have a character breakfast and concluded that it is either the busiest MCD in the world; they grossly underestimated the crowds last October or is the most inefficiently run MCD we’ve ever encountered. We waited longer for an egg McMuffin than any single ride in the parks over our 5-day trip.

I hope to report on the stay when I return next week.
