camcorders ON rides?

Well good for you, it doesn't bother YOU but you can bet that just as FairyCat said it does bother OTHERS. I can get a migraine in seconds from someone using a flash, I can get a migraine from someone with those flashy light toys and yes, I've even had a migraine induced from someone's "little" lcd screen. IF your camera has NO lights visible on it then please use it! But do not expect me to remain silent if I feel a migraine coming on, I will for sure turn around and say something to whomever is using any type of lighted camera/video equipment. And if you think my attempt at avoiding a migraine is "ridiculously nit picky" you've obviously NEVER had a migraine and attempted to leave a dark ride and reenter the daylight, it's enough to bring me to my knees.
And to clarify, some rides DO say no flash or video photography. Be sure to use your camera on rides that do not specify that please.[/QUOTE]

well dont you think it is rude of you to say something considering EVERYONE paid their entry to the park and there is no rules against it? you know what bothers me? people that wear heavy perfume, people who talk so loud you can hear them from the ride car in the back, people who hmmm, OH yeah complain about someone using a camera. but im not gonna say they shouldnt. there are tons of people wearing perfume so strong i get headaches but i wont say anything to them or that they cant. not my choice and there is no rule against it. as i said, i wouldnt use a flash. but there is nothing wrong with a little lcd screen. and about your migraine claim, ohhhh lady, boy can i tell you, the headaches and photosensitivity i have had from my adenoma are WAYYY worse than a migraine, with the exception i dont get nauseous. my mom has regular migraines and has to be on meds for them. you can not "avoid" a migraine, and to CLARIFY for you, a migraine will not be caused by flashing lights. a headache maybe, not a migraine though. and by the way, there are lots of BRIGHT and neon, AND flashing lights IN the rides. people like you just like to "make the rules" i think, to your likings. however if its not a rule at the park its not ur choice. if you are getting headaches from a little lcd screen though, then you would be getting them from just the rides as well. flash photography can hurt your eyes in the dark. a little screen that doesnt flash, no. it is a little distracting from the ride, maybe if its right in your face, but it is infront of the person using it and there is no reason to say anything if its not against the rules. sorry if i like happy memories to hold on to:) hey no hard feelings, but telling it like it is! and if you dont like my comments you shouldnt reply because this was my thread originally and i never asked ANYONE if it BOTHERS them, i asked if it was allowed.

My objection to video taping is, as fairycat said, specifically related to dark rides. Yes, your little lcd screen bugs the heck out of me, especially when it's held above your head or out to the side, blocking my view when I'm behind you. I don't see how someone can find it nit-picky to dislike interference with the person's enjoyment of the ride. When we rode Pirates last week, the CM specifically said "no flash photography or videotaping." I assumed that meant it was a rule, at least for that ride. There were 4 different people (2 in the same party) videotaping the entire way, with cameras held up, out, and all over the place. Tell me that's not distracting!!! (The same party also turned around and took regular pictures of their kids, who were sitting in front of us, and the shock of a flash going off several times right in my eyes didn't enhance my opinion of that group.)

I have many ways of cherishing my DL memories without having to videotape every ride. I can't think why you'd even want to, but as long as you can do it without compromising my experience, I don't care. Unfortunately, on some rides it really is annoying.

Just because it is something that people do does not make it right. It's an unfortunate part of society that people are concerned solely with themselves and not with the public surrounding them, but that's another topic for another day. There was actually a big discussion not too long ago about flash pictures on dark rides (wish I could find the link to it) - which while it may not be the exact same thing as using a camcorder, the lights that they produce can be just as menacing. It's a balance of things and you should consider the pros and cons maybe of each ride. Using cameras, camcorders, or anything else with lights while on dark rides like POTC are completely different than a well lit ride that is outdoors and can completely ruin the experience for people. How would you feel if you were in their shoes? And if you do, don't be alarmed to have someone mention something about it in either a nice or not-so-nice manner.

oh i wont be alarmed, and i will also politely inform them that it is not against policy, and they are more than welcome to do so as well. sorry, rules are rules and as long as i can do it i will. i dont think people realize something, you are saying you are so concerned about impacting someone else, when it only bothers you because YOU dont like it yourselves. bring something completely different up that YOU dont mind doing but others dont like, and you will defend your own ways on it because it is what YOU feel is okay. kinda like religion. i love god and jesus and have much faith, but you know what, many people dont. i cant stand it, and cant stand to hear anything bad said about it, but ya know its not my choice. i cant do anything about it. and people have free will to believe what they wish. just like we have the freedom to take cameras on rides unless noted otherwise. i think it is way more rude to complain about someone doing so, when it is completely allowed, and cherished in many peoples photo albums.

photos are a way to share. as well as taping. however, i said when the camera is INFRONT of the face of the person using it, it doesnt distract me and shouldnt. i dont allow my camera to go infront of anyone elses view OR up in the air. i am as respectful as i can be about it while pleasing myself too. i just dont see why i should give up some of MY enjoyment, and happiness, for someone else when they obviously are not willing to do the same, by allowing a person to record.

Ummm, I've paid MY admission to the parks as well. So yes, I do have every right to say something about something that is NOT allowed. And no, videotaping/flash photography is generally not allowed. On rides it is allowed you should still be respectful of those around you. And it's so nice of you to tell me how my migraines can be brought on. I shall remember that next time I have to stand inside the Pirate ride and CRY because someone used a flash camera. And YES that little LCD screen can cause them, any type of light can and in fact at times on rides I do know where/when I need to close my eyes to avoid a flash that may trigger a migraine. And yes, I do know when I'm prone to having one set in and yes, they can set in in a matter of seconds. Migraines can be brought on by triggers, those triggers can be avoided, whether they be lights, foods or alcohol and yes, even scents such as bug sprays or perfumes can trigger migraines. When you've had migraines like I've had them you do your research, and you know how they come about. My whole family gets migraines, even my DD13 gets them so yes, I think I'm knowledgeable enough to know what the triggers are. It's people like you that like to change the rules to your liking, with little to no regard for others who may be affected by your actions.

And please, figure out how to quote correctly, it will save a lot of confusion on future posts. Thank You :)

The issue here is many of us have heard the CM's announce NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY OR VIDEOTAPING, so it is a policy and you are breaking the rules, so using this logic it has nothing to do with our preferences, it is clearly a Disney policy. If you are unsure of what Disney's policy is per ride just ask a CM.

I don't really film rides as I don't want to risk damaging my HandyCam. If I do film a dark ride I make sure that my LCD is closed, as not to distract others. It's a courtesy thing.

:thumbsup2 Exactly. It's possible to videotape without the screen out.

oh man didnt realize you were so much smarter that everyone else. as i said, my mom has had migranes her WHOLE life, and i know MY research on them as well and my mom has to take shots for hers. i know what triggers are. so here is my ? if lights are triggers for yours, then why dont you stop going on those rides, seeing as how its such a problem, and go on some ride where there isnt any flashing lights, since some of those rides trigger them too. dont expect someone to cater to YOUR needs. MY family is first in my world just like im sure yours is. its something that doesnt bother me, and i will not put my screen anywhere besides infront of my face so to be as discreet as possible, while still being able to capture memories for my family. i think that many people have way overstepped their line on this thread, seeing as how it was just a question weather or not they are allowed. nobody needed to chime in about anything else. there are many of us who DO record, and just as you cant stand us because you think we ruin it for you, we REALLY cant stand you people who cant lighten up and ENJOY things and let others enjoy things as well. you just cant see it any other way accept yours. and i did check, there is no written policy so no its not TECHNICALLY a rule. as i said, i follow rules. unless im told not too i will continue to use it.

Okey dokey....here I am to save the day....

OP, I think your original questions have been addressed, for the most part. People are telling you that, in many cases, it is stated at DLR that video photography is not allowed, and even if, for some reason, you don't hear the disclaimer that it is prohibited, it is frowned upon by many guests and Cast Members alike if there is any kind of lighting emanating from the camera or obstruction of fellow guests' views involved. I think that on the outdoor rides it will be fine to film, but if you doubt or disregard what anyone here is telling you - and they have all been to DLR more recently than you have, from what you have told us - the only way to know for sure is to ask the CMs on the indoor/dark rides as you board them and see what they say. My guess is they will say no video photography. But give it a try and ask the CMs - maybe it will work out for you - and try to be respectful of the other riders' experiences.

On that note, I think this thread has run its course, as it is taking a turn that is not for the better. There are ways to communicate without becoming contentious or sarcastic, and it just drags everyone down once it becomes that way.
