I will be driving down to DL during the freeway closure (yikes!) and am expecting an extremly long drive.

However, I was thinking that because everyone is trying to avoid the road.. crowds might be lower?! Has anyone else wondered about this? :confused3

I think low crowds would totally be worth the long long drive ;)

(I totally spelled CARMAGEDDON wrong in the heading. Geesh. how can i fix that?)

I do not know where your driving from to visit DL but the freeway closure that will create this carmageddon is not near the parks at all. That being said I had spoken with several friends and we all agreed that most of us will just stay off the freeways/roads during that weekend.

Safe travels and enjoy your DL visit.

I'll be driving down from Northern California.

I know the closures aren't close to Disneyland, but when you are driving down from the north, they are a big part of the trip... which is more of what i meant. That maybe more people from the 'north' wont drive down--therefore less crowds? Maybe not.

I know I'll be there that weekend ... along with several thousand of my closest friends, and their families. There's a big convention at the DLH (we've taken most of the rooms at DLH and half of PP as well), so we'll all be hitting the parks next weekend. Hope you'll join us, but I can't promise that there wont be a crowd - since the traffic wont be an issue for us already there.

I'll be driving down on Saturday the 16th. Where are you coming from, SpaceMania? We'll be leaving Pleasanton at about 6:30 or 7 am.

Sherette, what's the convention at DLH?

It's for "Close To My Heart" (Scrapbooking/Card making, Acrylic Stamp Co.) No matter where it's held it always brings several thousand in, and since it's at DL we're all bringing our families with us!

Oh geeze. i didn't know there was a convention that weekend. I'll actually be in the park on Monday Tuesday and Wednesday. I guess the traffic situation won't be changing much of the crowd situation, from what i'm reading on here. But thats okay :)

I know this makes for a longer drive (miles wise) but have you considered heading over toward Vegas and coming down the 15? Basically heading down toward Barstow and then cutting over on the 58 above Edwards AFB and then connecting to I-15 south. You would completely avoid the area and most of the "alternate route" traffic as well.

It's been awhile since I've been on that route (the 58) so I don't know the road conditions along there. But if you just hate traffic and don't mind the extra miles, it could make things more fun.

I would love to skip traffic, lol. and hour of traffic is MUCH longer than an hour of driving in my opinion. I'm not driving though, so i'll have to run this by our driver ;)

Traffic has me a little concerned too. I have always rented a car at LAX and went on my merry way. This time I may take super shuttle and then rent at Alamo in DTD. It is really reasonable! No airport taxes! I am most concerned about driving Sunday AM to the Lax. Our flight leaves at 11:30 and I don't want to miss it as weare flying el cheapo Allegiant and the next flight with them would be Tuesday am!!

*Sherette- I'll be there too for the CTMH convention! Flying in Tuesday am! I can't wait for convention. We have AP's and go to Disney frequently, but this is my first real convention. I attended Regionals in Portland, OR 2 years ago! I have made 90 swaps! My girls will be with me but as I said regulars in the parks and will fend for themselves for the time I in meetings! Probably sleep in and then go to whitewaters for food! I am in the blue Cinderella group, unguided. Maybe I'll see you there!

From NorCal I'd take the 5 through the grapevine and then cut over on the 210 and take that to the 57, then the 57 South. That would be my recommended route.

Hi there- we are driving down from British Columbia this Friday and spending Saturday at US and then driving to DL on Saturday evening. Do you think that this may impact our travels and if so, any suggestions?

Thanks!

I was told if you took the 5 you would not cross the 405 to continue on to Disneyland is this incorrect? I have no idea where the 57 is, is it in LA? boy now i am nervous. i usually take 5 through grapevine past thousand oaks go through where universal studios is and continue to Anaheim. is this towards the 405? I've been so many times I have no idea what the route is just how to drive it...... i am prepared either way to fill up at half tank as i will be driving in Sat night now and just cme in 1 day early. I planned to leave sunday but i dont want to spend a day stuck in traffic and loose out on a disneyday.

After having to use the 405 freeway this morning it's carmaheaven not carmageddon. Maybe I should consider going to DL this weekend?

Well the "405 scare off" has kept motorists off the freeways. But it hasn't kept visitors and guests from Disneyland. I was in both parks earlier today and they were pretty crowded. I was actually kind of surprised, but it is mid-July after all, and there are those two previously mentioned conventions happening this weekend too. Still, the temps aren't too bad and it's the Happiest Place on Earth! We're going back in about an hour after my party has finished napping lol.

We were there yesterday and I can say it was much lighter for most of the day. The morning was quite lovely and in the evening we could walk through Tomorrowland with relative ease compared to the rest of the week.

We arrived at 11 used the hotel fast pass for Splash Mountain. I expected larger crowds since today is DL bday but the crowd was okay. Moved to DCA and had a 20 min wait for lil mermaid although the posted wait said 30 mins.
