Calumet Photo?

Never ordered from them, but I did notice that the item description says that the cards are "on order" with the following additional info:

Response to this two-for-one offer has been overwhelming and we're doing everything we can to keep up with demand. Rest assured, all orders received by August 2, 2007 at 11:59 p.m. CST will be fulfilled as we receive more stock from SanDisk.

That is a heck of a deal though. Might be worth a shot.

Calumet is great. I order from them because i can get it in a day or two. B&H Photo out of New York is my other mail order place. Do you have a Costco nearby? I just got that same card for that price and didn't have to pay for shipping. Although I did walk out with 50 lbs of dog food and a gallon of chili, so maybe I did pay more. Hmmmm...

Where is it on their site and what speed is the card

Just did a few quick searches. Apparently the stock number for this is SDSDH-2048-901 and it appears to be on sale all over the place
It is a 60x speed which is right at the minimum to use all of the Canon S-Series functions

I picked up the SD ultraII 2g cards at Radio Shack today for $19.99 each. The fact that they are on sale everywhere has me wondering what's going on? Is there a new card coming out soon and they just want to unload these? I'm happy regardless - love the SD cards and the speed works well with my S2IS camera. :goodvibes

I am guessing overstocked and trying to liquidate what they have
Also this card is pretty much at the minimun of what is needed for the new digital camera

The Calumet sale was for CF cards, which for reasons I don't understand remain quite a bit more expensive than SD. Even with shipping, I think it's probably the best price I've seen from what appears to be a reputable retailer.

Are you sure about this? Last time I was card shopping, my research showed that that card is sufficient for most dslr's. I'd be surprised if there were many point & shoots out there that require a faster one.

I still like using 1 gig cards and switching out. No more of a hassle then it used to be changing a roll of film. Cards can fail and I'd rather have 1 gigs worth lost than 2. It just happened to me, on a paying job no less, with a Sandisk Ultra card. Going to download a days worth of shooting and finding nothing but corrupt files will make your heart stop. Rare, but it happens.

On a side note, I bought a program called Photorecovery by LC Technology and managed to get back about 25% of what I shot. $40 bucks, but saved my butt.

From what I been researching the main thing that is causing the needed speeds to go up is the buffer on the camera and how fast you can fill it.
IIRC the Pentax K100D has a small buffer of about 3 shots, so if you are shooting in continuous mode you want to dump the contents to your storage as fast as possible
The other think that uses the speed is recording movies. Higher frame rate needs a higher speed
If you look at the card Canon recommends to be able to operate the camera without a problem it is a 50x

Thanks, guys! I just placed an order with calumet. It actually came out a couple of dollars less (with shipping) than buying two cards locally and paying sales tax. I was hoping to get to Costco this week, but I've been leaving work too late, and I have to work all this weekend, so chances are slim that I'll get there. Besides, like Gary D, I never manage to walk out of Costco spending less than $150.

I agree.

I was at Costco today and the 2g card was $39.99 and there was not a single 1gb SD card in the store. I thought that was a bit strange, as I just purchased a 1gb SanDisk SD card there 3 weeks ago for $24.99. I suppose everyone thought that was a good deal as well!:)

I haven't seen a 1 gig card at my local Costco for over 2 months. In fact, every card they sold, CF, SD, XD all seemed to be 2 gigs.
