Hoping this is not a stupid question......

Is there anywhere on board that we are able to view Nutritional facts of the food they serve on board? Particularly the calorie content...

I have lost 24 pounds over the past 5 months and really don't want to get onboard and gain weight back... I am going to be exercising at least twice a day and taking the stairs instead of the elevator..

I know I saw a "lite" menu for dinner--- but not sure on anything else... I do want to eat some treats but want to budget them into my diet..

Thanks again for all your comments......

Thats a great question! I too am fanatical (first one at the gym). I did not see anything like that, but then again, I did not ask. Hopefully a more knowledgeable person will answer. FYI - the workout facility is great! You have such a great view running on the treadmill. And congrats!! Losing 24 lbs is so awesome!! You should be proud of yourself!

I hope that someone can guide you to nutritional info for the items on the cruise. I do have to tell you that I was constantly moving and lost 6 pounds on the cruise. I didn't limit myself on anything! I had ice cream everyday with chocolate syrup, whatever I wanted in the dining room for dinner but did seem to eat a very light breakfast and lunch. I didn't even realize it until I got back home and looked at the scale. I then had to think about why I lost weight.

We were always running either to the kid's club, to the pool, to bingo - somewhere! I think we forgot to eat lunch a couple of days. And to be honest, the deserts were good but not phenomenal. I'm a HUGE cake fan and liked them but didn't love them. After a couple of bites of something sweet I was usually done with it. To me it wasn't worth the calories.

Congrats on the weight loss. :thumbsup2

I have never seen one but with a few tips you can continue to lose even while cruising!

Drink plenty of water
Always move, exercise ect
Watch your consumption of alchol
Portions are huge, just eat half of your servings
go for the lite items
they even have lite items for deserts.

I usually maintain or lose weight on our cruises. I try to hit the gym a few days and almost always take the stairs. I usually eat what I want within reason, I love DCL's chicken fingers and chocolate chip cookies so I limit those treats.

The only cruise I gained weight on was our 2007 14 night WB TA Repo. We had six days straight at sea and were fortunate that the weather was awesome. I spent most of those 6 days with my butt parked in a lounge chair with a good book, a drink and a snack enjoying the gorgeous calm seas. The experience was worth every one of those 5lbs.

I believe I read somewhere that they DO NOT have nutriional information available for the dishes.

I have lost 20lbs and hope to lose a few more before the cruise but I am not planning on worrying too much about what I eat on board. For a start I find that I can't manage larger portions like I used to so I will be aiming not to overstuff myself. Also, I am hoping to hit the gym a couple of times on board and keep active during the trip (with two little children I am not going to get the opportunity to sit by the pool all cruise long!) The menus do contain lighter options including sufar free desserts. Also you can make healthier choices e.g. choosing tomato based sauces over cream based sauces etc...

Congratulations on your weight loss, I am sure you will enjoy your cruise AND the food aswell!

I, for one, would not want to see the calories of food on my cruise, but that's just me....

You can very easily eat healthfully on a cruise. The breakfast & lunch buffets are chock full of fruits, raw (and cooked) veggies, etc. There are pre-portioned boxes of cereal and yoghurts if you are concerned about portion control.

My DD and I lost weight on our last Mediterranean cruise but that was due to the amount of walking we did every day in the ports. Normally I find that I do gain a couple of pounds in the Caribbean because I'll try this, and nibble that, and have a weakness for fries and an adult beverage or two (or more) and those slowly add up. On cruises of 4 or less days I NEVER have time to visit the gym, despite my packing workout clothes & sneakers.

If you are concerned, take the stairs everywhere, take a BITE of whatever you want, and try to maintain your schedule from back home.

1200 calories per day I am sure...:lmao:!
No seriously just making light of a smart topic!

There is a ton of fresh fruit available at every meal.

Thoughts--have them remove (or not bring) the bread if the table is just your family. That way, it's not tempting. It's not worth the calories! There is "lighter fare" available at lunch and dinner...there are sugar free desserts (which may be high in fat!). IN my experience on the Magic, any meat can be served with sauce on the side. Take stairs if your knees can handle it. Walk briskly everywhere. Hit the gym. Do a walking tour of the islands. Share desserts. ONe bite is as good as a whole dish/plate/whatever. Don't order cookies and milk from room service every night.

Goofy's Galley is a great place to have lunch on the ship! They offer fresh fruit, wraps and paninis. :)

I lost about six pounds on a seven day. You are presented with so much food, you don't have to make poor choices. I left off the stuff that I know packs on the weight. I left off potatoes, rice, pasta, and bread. I only took a few bites of the desserts. I was never hungry and tasted a lot of different things.

Yeah I don't really want to see my calorie intake for the cruise:rotfl: I will just be active on the boat and eat as I please and detox when I come home:lmao::lmao::lmao:

This isn't like last cruise where you were supposed to gain weight, April...or is there something you want to tell us? ;) I can completely understand your concerns since I have lost 21 pounds since 1/1 but I am at my goal and not really wanting to change how I have been eating. I am already thinking about what I will do differently on the cruise next year and fit in walks and fitness time.

:laughing::lovestruc
Lisa you are so silly no more eating for two for me!!!
But I do find that you can really get alot of extra movement on the cruise if you want to!!! Plus you can pick something to not partake in on the boat and stick with it..such as no bread....:confused3except for paninis! I will be taking the stairs as always when possible(Will also help wear out little ones) and trying to drink plenty of water. I think a little gain is fine just like a little loss as long as you keep yourself focused on whatever your fitness goals are.... But giving up all treats could make one feel a bit sad and it really depends on what you truly consider as your indulgence!!! I will be waiting for my chocolate souffle and because I have restricted myself for the past few weeks from any desserts I feel that my treats will be well deserved!
Really though ACTIVITY is the way to go IMHO!!!!

Count me as one who WOULD like the nutritional information - i'm a carb counter - for diabetes. You can BET I'm going to have my book with me, to estimate as best I can.

I didn't see nutritional information but there are sugar-free desserts on the ship. I tried them a couple of times -- not the greatest but then to be honest, wasn't all that into the normal desserts either (with a couple of exceptions).

I didn't worry about it one bit BUT we took the stairs almost everywhere (we were on deck 6) and walked a ton. I only worked out one day on the cruise (walked 3 miles on deck 4) and walked Epcot, AK & MK before and after the cruise. We drank way more wine and cocktails than normal and I was nervous about how much weight I may have gained. Weighed in today (got home on Monday) and turns out I only gained 1 lb.

Avoid the carbs & sugars if you have to watch sugars, take the stairs, drink lots of water and you should be fine. Also -- AVOID the DOD or fancy drinks -- they have TONS of sugar and calories in them. I think it helped that we stuck primarily to wine.

I would think that the dining managers might have that information if anyone does.

I wouldn't mind having the nutitional info available - not necessarily displayed, and maybe even for some of the items on board. I've worked hard over the past two years to lose 35 lbs, and I plan to lose more before we cruise so I can indulge, but there are a lot of reasons, not just weight control, that having the info available would be helpful.

I use an online calorie counter, and it's possible to get pretty good at making estimates if that's your thing. Meat is pretty easy to gauge, fruit is always a smart choice (I tried it once, it helps with morning hydration too!) and creamy sauces - just call it a day!

I've found a lot of the "weight" I gain on a cruise is really just excess water from all the salt and fat - a week of eating as I normally do, and the damage isn't that bad. To gain a lb. a day, generally I have to eat ~3500 calories over requirements (2000 calories is an average). Even with all the tasty offerings on-board, over 5000 calories a day would be impossible for my poor tummy! I'm going to stop getting on the scale as soon as I get back from vacay though...the numbers a week later are highly preferable! :rotfl2:

I am happy to say I didn't gain any weight on our 4 dayer even though I thought we ate like pigs sometimes lol! (Example my dd and dh brought plates of cakes from Pirate nite back to the room) We did so much walking I think that's what balanced everything out. I ate this cajun chicken sandwich at Goofy's galley and made smart choices throughout my cruise. I also ordered salads and fruit from room service for lunch. They will substitute veggies if you ask. I do Weight Watchers so I knew what to do portion wise. Plus I drank tons and tons of water too. For your dinners they have lighter options usually chicken. If the portion was too big I shared it with the family or put it to the side.
