Thanks to the great advice I received from a post I made here yesterday I am now planning to book Wild Africa Trek next weekend for our March trip. We'll be going the first week of March and as I am trying to squeeze the 3-hour tour into our already full 6-day trip I am wondering if time of day has any impact on the tour experience and the number of animals who are out and about? The avg temps that week look to be 50's at night and 70's during the day if that makes a difference. Because the tour is at such a high cost am simply trying to maximize the experience.

Many thanks in advance for any and all thoughts!

I'm definitely not an expert. We did it only once, at 8am in July. Our guides fed the hippos. We saw a lot of crocodiles. Ostriches chased our vehicle and we saw the cheetahs, which are not easy to spot. At the lunch stop, you can see a lot of animals. I think they work pretty hard to make sure you see lots of animals, regardless of the time of day. There are special roads/paths for the safari vehicle so that you can stay and watch longer without getting in the way of the regular safari "ride".

We had been hesitant to book an afternoon tour because of the heat and the fear that the animals would not be as active. In May, we had the DVC pandora preview until noon, so we had to book after that. We booked a 2:00 tour and it was great. It was not unbearably hot and you got to see the animals on the safari up close and personal because you get your own safari truck.

Great! Of course adding to all this is the fact that I need to book the tour soon and won't know until January whether I can get the FOP fastpass for that day etc. So I think I'm going to book the tour for late morning and hope that I can fit our park plans in both before and after that.

Many thanks!

We went on the Wild Africa Trek last August. We had weather concerns, but of a different variety as it was so hot! We saw tons of animals and as mentioned above, Disney has tricks to ensure you are seeing animals. We were even told they heat the big rock in the winter so that the lions chose to stay in view.

Wild Africa Trek was awesome! Hope you have a great time!

I see you are planning to book a late morning tour. My advice was going to be to read the menus because they serve different food if you are on the earliest tours of the day. The earlier tours have slightly more breakfast like foods and the rest of the tours are lunch food. When I did the tour quite a few years ago now I preferred the afternoon menu so I purposely booked one of the non-morning tours. In the tour description it says the food is based on whether it is a morning or afternoon tour so I advise asking the CM when you call to book to verify which food you will be served. The food was wonderful. I'm considering possibly booking the Savor the Savanna tour myself for my late September solo trip.

Good tip! Still haven't firmed up the time for sure so will take that into consideration as well
