We are calling tomorrow (Tuesday) for our ADR's..and we still need 1!
We will all have the dining plan AND park hoppers
This will a :ssst: SURPRISE trip for my kids, their spouses and our grandkids! party: DH and I are going , too! :teeth:
DAY 1: "free" afternoon and then CHEF MICKEY'S for dinner
DAY 2: AK 1/2 DAY and then ???? for dinner
DAY 3: CRYSTAL PALACE for breakfast and then into MK
DAY 4: EPCOT DAY and LeCELLIER for dinner
DAY 5: WATER PARK DAY and then OHANAS for dinner (hopefully around 7)
DAY 6: MGM DAY (leaving this day open for dinner)
DAY 7: "Open" morning and then trudging back to the airport :(

We already have two character meals. And anywhere in the world is ok as AK will only be a half day.
We are getting nervous :hyper: so all help will be greatly appreciated!

Why not Boma for the AK day since AKL is fairly close to AK and maybe a Fantasmic package for the MGM day?

I would second the idea for Boma. Also, you can spend a few hours in and around AKL before the meal. It actually is the second largest collection of African art in the Western Hemisphere (after the Smithsonian Institution) as well as having it's own savannah with animals.

For the other day, how about considering 50's Prime Time in MGM, or go to the Cape May Buffet at the Beach Club; both should have food for everyone in the family.

One extra advantage of all listed, if you make early dinner reservations you should be able to be seated together as a group and not spread out.

DAY 2: AK 1/2 DAY and then ???? for dinner <-----

DAY 6: MGM DAY (probably 1/2 day) and then ???? for dinner <-----

Any suggestions will be oh!-so-greatly appreciated as I am getting a bit frazzled at this point! :rotfl:
after animal kingdon you can go to the rainforest cafe, the 'china island chicken salad' is awesome. or since AK closes early and you have hoppers you can go back into epcot and try the japanese steakhouse. they cook right on the table so the kids will really get a kick out of it.

at MGM i highly recommend the prime time 50's cafe. if you get a good server they can be SO fun!! make sure you order veggies for the kids.... :thumbsup2

i see you already have my fave, o'hana's.. so my 2nd fave is the cape may cafe...
have fun!

We did have Teppankyaki on the list for dinner after going to AK. :thumbsup2 I am just worried about the seating arrangement for 9 of us?! Any thoughts? :confused3

Our family wasn't too keen on Boma last summer (we were 8 then), however it is a good idea.... or maybe if you want to wander to Fort Wilderness you could try Whispering Canyon and then watch the fireworks from the Beach after dinner.

If you don't mind loud, Whispering Canyon Cafe at Wilderness Lodge is fun! You can ride a boat from MK. This dinner was one of the highlights of our vacation. It's barbecue-style food, and the servers will "play" with you. We had a blast. My kids didn't want to leave! :thumbsup2

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Boma is only open for breakfast and dinner, so if you are spending a 1/2 day at AK it would have to be the second half of the day to eat there.

What about spending some time at DTD? Our family loves HOB and it's quite reasonably priced for Disney property.

I second Whispering Canyon. We tried Boma a few years ago, and while Im not opposed to trying it again, I really was not impressed at all. Its not a good place to take picky eaters. Whispering Canyon is a lot of fun, good food choices, and a fun way to unwind.

I say for the AK keep up with the AK theme and eat at Boma, Jiko, or Rainforest Cafe. :)

Depending when you leave AK I would also recommend Boma. Their would be a benefit in saving the travel time from AK to AKL. I believe they start serving dinner at around 5:00PM.

You may have already made your ADR's, but, just in case...

I recommend Boma at the AKL for your AK day too - it's the "perfect" ending to a day at AKL. And, while you only plan to spend a 1/2 day at AK, you'll probably end up being there a little past lunch anyway, and, by the time you go back to your resort & freshen up, it'll be time for dinner anyway. The Animal Kingdom Lodge is gorgeous, and the CM's are so friendly! You can get there early & walk around the resort, chatting w/ the CM's & looking at the animals in the savannah. Also the food selections on the buffet at Boma are many & varied, so even the "picky" eaters will find something to eat. And the desserts are yummy!

Or I'd choose WCC at the WL - I think the fun atmosphere at WCC would be great for a large group! Plus, the WL looks gorgeous too. Then, you can take the boat over to Fort Wilderness & maybe join in the campfire singalong & movie or watch "Wishes" from the beach.

For your MGM day, if you plan to see "Fantasmic", I'd do a FDP - Hollywood Brown Derby, Hollywood & Vine, or Mama Melrose's. However, this is also your last night, so you might want something more "special". If you don't plan to see "Fantasmic", I'd schedule WCC for your last night instead of your AK day. I think WCC would be a great "last night" kind of dinner - lots of fun!

I only wonder if they will do what we are planning on doing...going to AK and then head back to the hotel (instead of going straight to the restaurant). We will take a break mid afternoon before we head out to our dinner. So...depending on where they are staying....what's close by too:)

We just got back from AKL last week. I suggest going to Boma, it is so good and it is acually voted number 1 buffet in the US (one of the staff told us that), not only will you have a good meal here but it is the best resort in Disney. You can walk around and check it out and i'm sure everyone would love to see this resort, and the animals, etc. Good luck and have a great trip!
