My hand hurts so I can't walk :rotfl:

No, really. About two this afternoon, my hand started hurting. I walk with a cane, so yes, it's hard to put pressure on my cane-hand. I just looked (don't ask!) There's a raised lump or bump on the back of my hand, about a quarter inch high, inch by inch and a half. No bruise/discoloration, hard, painful, hurts to type, hurts to bend my wrist.

Too late to call the doctor, not ER-worthy ($150). Anybody care to diagnose me, tell me if my I'm being stupid/cheap and my hand's going to fall off before Monday morning?

Thanks!

Ganglion cyst or neuroma would be my guesses. Where on the back of your hand it is? Neither are ER worthy and probably not something your GP dr would tackle. It could also be a stress fracture but I doubt that one given the bump and painful movement when bending your wrist.

I'd go to urgent care tomorrow if there is one near you. They usually have x-ray machines on site and its a lot less hassle then going to your GP then being sent elsewhere for x-rays. I also seem to get in a lot sooner at the doctors urgent care refer me to than those my GP did.

I should add, if you start to lose feeling in your hand/fingers, it becomes urgent care/ER worthy.

Your hand is going to fall off before Monday;)

:lmao: Just kidding, sounds like what Goofy said, also you could have carpal tunnel in that wrist as well. Hope that you are doing much better now:goodvibes

I meant to say Golfgal ( but I couldn't remember her name) all I knew is that it started with a G and since this was the DIS, Goofy popped into my head:blush: :rolleyes1. Sorry about the one Golfgal.

Thanks, both of you.

golfgal, it's pretty much centered on the back of my hand, below the knuckles to above the wrist.

Agri, thanks - my doctor's office has a number of NPs and they're great about same-day appointments; and the hospital is literally around the corner. No urgent care around here :( which surprises me.

Is the bump along the entire length of your hand or is is just a "knot" like bump-like maybe you knocked it against something. I still suspect a neuroma. Does it hurt more between the bones or ON the bones?

Thanks very much, cm8 - that's exactly the affirmation the hypochondriac in me was seeking! :rotfl2:

golfgal, thank you again - if there's any change like you describe (anything other than the pain), yes, I'll go to the ER.

It probably wouldn't hurt to ice the back of your hand a few times tonight/tomorrow.

It's on the bones. I checked the be-all, end-all medical source (second to the DIS, of course), Wikipedia. The picture they showed was a real lump. This is more flat, about half the size of the back of my hand, going down as far as my wrist. I'm trying to think of something to compare it to... Okay, I know! Can you see the ad for "special offers are available right now at WDW Resort"? It's about the size of the pictur in that ad, and it's about a quarter inch high when I look at it from the side.

Look up Cellulitis and see if it looks like that, if so, that is ER worthy.

Not cellulitis. Been there, done that. You BET I would have been at the ER!!!!! Do not pass Go, do not stop at the DIS!! Thanks, golfgal!

Thank you. I have on an arthritis glove now, based on (yes, I know, completely unofficial wikipedia information) splinting being one of the treatments if it's a ganglian cyst. It doesn't hurt as much.

I remember a case like this in church. A middle-aged home ec teacher had a sore hand for no reason, with swelling on the top of her hand. It was looked after by a doctor, but there was no cause and it went away on its own.

Hope this helps. It was a mysterious case.
