Calling re: discount codes attached to name

How popular is this tactic and how do the CM's feel about it? In other words, does Disney not like for folks to call them to see if there's a code/pin/whatever-you-wanna-call-it attached to your name? I'm curious to know if I have one myself but don't wanna be one of "those" people if it's frowned upon to call them about it. I need a room at AKL.
 
I didn't call routinely to ask, but whenever I was calling about something else, and I did that several times, I went ahead and asked about discount codes being sent to people via email. They never told me that they wouldn't check, and they were always polite about it. So I would certainly call and simply say that a friend of yours received an email with a special offer, and you wanted to know what it was all about, and if you could get the discount, too - that sort of thing. At least that's pretty much what I did. Some CMs are nicer than others, so if you're not happy with what you hear, call back again. Good luck!
 
I was nervous about calling too. I called about once a month for the last 6 months or so (we're going 10/30-11/7). I called last Monday asking if there was by any chance a PIN attached to my name and that I was hoping and wishing for Free Dining and the CM told me that there was a PIN for Free Dining!! She said that it was a good thing I called b/c the PIN expired 5/26. So, I would definately call. There's nothing to lose.
 
I felt weird about trying it also. (But I really want free dining!) I kept it very light, almost joking when I asked if I "might possibly, maybe be lucky enough to have a pin attached to my name?" The CM I talked with was very sweet and she laughed about it while she checked it out for me. I did but it was for 20% off and I have a better discount booked at 30% thru a family member that we are traveling with. So No Soup for Me, but the CM was very nice!
 

Is the # to call the 407-939-7675. I haven't called to check on a PIN before and was curious if it was the same # as booking a reservation. Hoping for Free Dining for Oct. instead of having to wait until July like last year.
 
Yes, just call the regular booking number. The cm I spoke with yesterday said they get "more calls than we can keep track of" from people and encouraged me to keep calling. She in fact said if Disney would just release all discounts to the public at the same time rather than doing the pins, they would have less work but since that's the way Disney does it, they know they will get a huge volume of calls. She also told me "order a DVD, plan itineraries and keep saving trips". So they encourage people to do the stuff we disboarders know about from this board!

Bottom line, call! Disney creates the game, so we might as well all play it in an attempt to get what we want.

I have never had a cm get gruff or refuse to check. They have always been very nice about it. And I have called often!

OMG I didn't know that pin codes attached to your name have expiry dates! I've been thinking of calling for a while to see if I have a free dining pin for around the same dates as you so I really really hope I didn't have one and it expired just last week! That would be horrendous. :eek:
