Calling New Orleanians!

We are heading out of town for Mardi Gras, from the Kenner area, to escape the hurricane clean up for a little while. Head out on Feb. 22nd after school, staying till March 1st. Can't wait!

Trying to convince hubby to do a last minute trip....he's breaking down!!! :rotfl2: We were just there in Sept. during our evacuation, but I'm dying to be there for my DD2's birthday (Mardi Gras day!) Do you think it will be crowded?

Alright I am very jealous over here. You evacuated to DISNEY??? I wanted to do that, too! Unfortunately, the traffic and weather had other plans for us. We won't be able to go to Disney until NEXT YEAR because DH had to change jobs as a result of the hurricane. :guilty: I guess I'll have to live through trip reports!

Any year when I can miss Mardi Gras, and the hoards of tourist that come with it, I consider myself fortunate.

Hi, Mobile, Al here. We're running from Mardi Gras too. There are rumors that Mardi Gras in Mobile is going to be crazy this year. DH & I work in Downtown in the heart of the parades, so we need this vacation!LOL

We evacuated to WDW during Katrina too. When we got home, people were BITTER! Several friends told me how it wasn't right to got to WDW during such a serious situation. Considering the fact that our jobs blew away into Mobile Bay & our property in Gulfport was nonexsistient, I thought we deserved a little pixiedust before coming home to no power. Needless to say, many friends are implementing our "evacuation plan" this year. :rotfl:

See y'all there, Sbella

That's what we should have done! We already had reservations from 9/1 - 9/6. I guess we thought this would be like any other evacuation - we would leave for a couple of days then come home. Little did we know... :sad2:

Anyway, I re-scheduled our trip for Feb.5 - 11 at POR. Our home will be pretty close to being finished by then. It will nice to get away from hurricane cleanup for a while. :tigger:

riding in the Caesar parade on Saturday the 18th, and then heading to WDW the next Thursday. Plan to arrive in Disney around 9:00am on Friday morning, to get a good start on the day! Leaving as late as possible on Wednesday evening.

Can a Mississippi girl reply? As far as I'm concerned, Mardi Gras has been blown away like everything else...I really don't even want to think about it!

WDW is the place to be this year!

(Well...actually it's the place to be every year.) ;)

Louisianians here going during Mardi Gras. It's a big thing to do around here. Great time of year and the kids are out of school!!

:rotfl2:  HAHA!!! He did it! My DH gave in!!!!! He told me I could book our plans for Mardi Gras! :cheer2: We evacuated to disney in Sept. after 2 weeks of :furious: with my MIL in San Antonio!!! So here I am planning another trip!!! I can't wait! We are not telling the kids about this one...figured we'd surprise them at the airport. By the way, we're from Kenner also...I teach in Metairie.

Not from NOLA but from Alexandria/Lake Charles.

We are forgoing Mardi Gras this year for a change. We are headed to Disney February 23 and returning Mardi Gras Day ( I have to teach the next day!).

We might even be home in time for the parade....so I might not miss it!

Tara

Sinderelli, congrats on your upcoming trip. Glad you can join us. Have fun and leave your worries behind. :woohoo:

I hope you all get to go, and have a wonderful time. You deserve it. God bless all of you that were affected, either physically or emotionally. My families prayers have been with all of you since day 1.

We're from metairie and have had to relocate to South Georgia thanks to the "you know what". I'm not going to be able to go for mardi gras since the children don't get out for holiday here at that time but I'll be there in May for our 2nd trip. I can't wait and the best part is instead os driving 12 hrs. I'll only have to drive 3!!!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Thank you! That was really sweet.

Oh boy, I wish. We can't go during Mardi Gras b/c of DH's work. Going back in November though!!!! :thumbsup2

Count us in! I'm originally from Slidell and my DH from LaPlace, but we've lived in Baton Rouge for the past year or so. We also have two friends going with us from Harahan. We planned this before the hurricanes, so I don't feel AS bad leaving this year, even though I'm sure with the lax in tourism, this will be the closest we will ever get to a "local" Mardi Gras.
When we were dating, my DH and I drove to WDW for Mardi Gras '03. On the way there, almost to Pensacola, some woman flipped her car on a small bridge on I-10 and tied up traffic FOREVER. She was ok, but the next stop was the Florida welcome center and it seemed like half of La. was there on their way to WDW.
It's so funny to be in line for RnRC or BTMRR and be surrounded by people wearing Jesuit sweatshirts, local company t-shirts, loads of LSU shirts, only things you see around here.

We were in the early stages of planning a trip to WDW during MG when "Miss What's Her Name?" blew into town. Although we live on the northshore we had a great deal of damage.

We decided to wait until we had all of our major construction issues dealt with and paid for before we started to plan our next trip. We usually go in June every year and it looked like it would be at least August before we could go this year. Well, we got very lucky and thanks to all our friends and family pitching in...we were through with the major stuff before Christmas!!! :thumbsup2 . We decided the night before Christmas to make plans for this June!!! :woohoo:

So we're looking forward to a "mostly local" Mardi Gras. My DH has refused to go to MG in NO for years now....maybe this year I'll get lucky and convince him. If not, there's always a parade around here. ;)

I hope all of y'all have a wonderful time!!!!

We're going! We're going! :bounce: :woohoo: :bounce:
......from the Morgan City area.
We've been to WDW for Thanksgiving 2000 and 4th of July 2002.

We thought we'd give Mardi Gras a chance. I've heard nothing but good things about crowds and weather.
See you fellow cajuns there!!!! :yay:

Dznygurl, we're neighbors....live in Bayou L'Ourse. Have fun in WDW. For us, it's all about the princesses....my DD is 5. princess:
