do you feel guilty, if you "might" be able to make but would feel yucky and would just rather stay home and not deal ?

None of your co-workers want what you have, no, I wouldn't feel guilty at all.

no, not at all. If you have to stay home to get well, it's okay.

::yes:: and if you can't be productive, it's better to rest and go back when you are well.

No, I don't. I'm given sick leave for a reason. I hate it when people drag themselves in even when they're ill and end up sharing their illness with the entire office.

I can access email and files from home so I usually do a bit of work at home. I'm accessible by phone if anyone has a problem or question. I'm not so indispensible that I can't be there for a day or two if I'm ill.

I ALWAYS feel guilty. It doesn't stop me from doing it when I need too, I just feel extra crummy for missing work on top of everything else.

I never have and never will feel guilty about calling in sick - even when I'm not! I wish I had done it today.... :teeth:

It depends on who it is that I am calling in too. I have 2 supervisors and 2 leads. If I call in to 1 supervisor all I have to say is that I am not coming in and she is cool with it and she leaves it as that. The 2 leads seem to want an explanation so, there I am explaining why my bodily functions won't let me go to work. The other supervisor is new to our area and I haven't had to call in to her yet.

My husband has to go in pretty much no matter what. There is no one else to do his job and if he is not there there is no one to cover for him.

I rarely get sick. And when I do it's usually a much more mild form of whatever everyone else around me has. They are violently ill and I'm feeling a little sick to my stomach and stuff like that.

Definitely leaves me feeling guilty when I call in sick since I know I'm not that ill. Just a little under the weather. So usually I don't call in. It's not worth the mental aggrivation of continually trying to throw off the guilt, lol.

Nope, I have to deal with the Publick, and I know I can get sicker from them, so I stay home. I am off sick today, due to a very sore throat. Don't feel bad about it at all, thats why I have sick time.... :rolleyes1

That's me. I can't ever take "mental health days". I feel awful if I'm not really really sick when I call in.

Could all of you guilt ridden people just transfer all your sick time over to me??? I could use a couple of weeks off! :cool1:

I don't think I've ever felt guilty calling in sick. :confused3 Usually (though not always) the reason I am sick is because someone else came in to work and gave me what they had.

Only when I go back the next day and people ask what was wrong and say how they had the exact same thing. Then is that a subtle hint to say, I made it in but you didn't you big baby.
Sometimes when I am sick and feel like I could make it I usually talk myself into going back to bed.

Those people don't bother me a bit. It's common sense to REST when you are sick...and stay away from others.

I always feel guilty. I know that they don't want what I have but I feel bad anyway. I actually have tried to time my illness around days when I know the coverage at work is good. :teeth:

It all stems from when I was a director at a preschool. It seems that I had someone call in sick every day and it used to cause all sorts of problems for everyone else. I started resenting the people who were always sick (yes one and two were particularly bad about this) and now I feel like my bosses would think the same of me. I have only missed 4 days in 2 years due to illness however so I think my record is pretty good.
