I had to call in sick just now... And I feel SO GUILTY! I don't really know why - It's Friday and I was done with this weeks workload and was already 1/4 of the way into next weeks workload, so it's not like I am leaving work for someone else to finish.

I had strange aches all night and couldn't regulate my temp, and didn't sleep much, and woke up this AM feeling generally... not well. So WHY the guilt!!!

I am the same exact way...I feel guilty when I call in sick...even though when I call in sick I am really sick ( as you are)....so why do we do it? Why must we make ourselves feel bad about calling in and staying home and not taking whatever it is we have into work...please feel better and take care of yourself....

I feel the same, I have no idea why, the last time I was ill I had really bad motion sickness so couldn't move... still felt like I was letting someone down though. Make sure you get plenty of rest and get well soon :goodvibes

I rarely call in sick but I did yesterday and hated doing it. But...I work with someone who calls in ALL THE TIME .

Not at all. If I call in sick then I'm really too sick to care enough to feel guilty. The only thing I'm thinking about is crawling back to bed, staggering to the toilet, or praying to God that I die soon.

Work and how they're getting along will be the last thing on my mind.

I used to feel very guilty if I called in sick, and in all the years I worked there I think I did it about half a dozen times total. My boss hated when people called in sick. I didn't want to call in and have to deal with her wrath. :( I would always try to find someone else to cover my shift, and usually had success but occasionally couldn't find anyone so most times I would just drug up and go anyway. But if I was coughing badly then I would call in. I always dreaded having to do it though.

I've called in sick THREE days this week, plus left early one day. Yeah. I feel guilty. :( I guess I was raised to have a good work ethic or something. But I am SO sick. And it doesn't help that I'm up all night with the baby. I'm trying to not feel bad about staying home. Our projects are mostly wrapped up until the kick off of new ones next week, and everyone else is out of town on business, but I feel like a slacker.

When I worked at another company (Not going to name names, but it starts with "I" and ends with "BM") you were expected to work from home when you called in sick. What does that say about our workaholic society?

I rarely call in sick but when I do the call into work makes me feel even worse. I know that when I'm working and some one called in sick everyone has to rearrange their schedules (unless someone comes in to cover) I do not like putting more work on others.

I always feel guilty too. About a month ago I took my first sick day in 5 years and I still felt guilty.

If I'm really sick I don't feel guilty. If I just need a mental health day then I do feel guilty. Consequently, I rarely take a mental health day, although my family all seems to think I need more of them.;)

If you are sick, stay home. Believe me, your boss and coworkers do not want you in there spreading germs.

Now if you call in sick just to get a day off, then you should feel guilty. ;)

Since I can work from home I rarely need to actually call in sick. When I do it's because I can barely pick my head up off the pillow to make the phone call so I don't feel guilty at all.

I hope you feel better.

I always feel guilty when I have to call in sick. I don't have to speak to a person, I just have to leave a message but no matter how sick I am, I always spend most of the message apologizing. I know when I call in it really does effect the rest of the team, and the whole restaurant gets thrown off, so I always feel terrible.

I don't at the place where I work right now. It's extremely difficult to get a day off there yet they think nothing of a person calling in sick. So that's what we do.

I always felt guilty when calling in. Especially at my last job becuase even though I knew my longterm workload was always caught up, I felt bad that the others in my department would have to handle the day to day stuff. I worked at a long-term care pharmacy so we were always having new patients to admit and send meds to. I never called in unless I was truly sick.

ALWAYS!!

My job effects everyone. It effects the jobs of the office employees and I create all the jobs for our warehouse/factory workers. If I'm not here, someone most definitely has to fill in for me. My boss often tells me how he hopes I never retire or win the lottery. It makes me feel good to be appreciated but it makes me feel horrible when I can't be there to do MY job. And I normally get at least 2 phone calls from work if I'm at home.

Thankfully I am not sick often.

Funny though..I never feel guilty when I take my week off for Disney World!

I definitely do! I had to call out today because I woke up at 4 AM with a both ends stomach bug and a fever. Obviously I couldn't go in but I still feel really bad. A little while ago I was able to get the fever down with motrin which has me feeling even guiltier! I am just telling myself that my coworkers must be glad I decided not to come in and spew my germs everywhere!

Yes, I hate calling-in sick. I have to feel pretty bad to miss work.

I seem to feel guilty about calling out only when I'm sick. I never feel guilty calling out if I'm "playing hooky".. something is wrong with me.
