Hi everyone!

I am hoping to get into Vero at the 7 mo window for 10/6 departing the 9th. I have a few questions before I reserve this...

What do you think about the availability of rooms at this time of year? Should I call day to day?

I am hoping to get either a studio or an Inn room. What are the pros/ cons to each? The points are pretty much the same for a studio or an Inn room with an ocean veiw.

Is there an area or veiw that you recommend requesting?

What is the beach like? White sand? Shells? (Here is the silly question: Any shark sightings? Jelly fish?) Do I keep the kids in very shallow water?

Will I be able to rent beach towels? Should I bring one from home?

I have 3 young children (6,4, and 1) Is there a lot for them to do? Are there any excursions that they (the older 2) could participate in? I have read about a kids club. Is it 30.00 per child per day? yikes!

Do you rec getting any groceries delivered? How remote is this resort to the rest of Vero Beach?

Thanks to all! TIA!

~Jean :)

I will do my best answering some of your questions...

Hi everyone!

I am hoping to get into Vero at the 7 mo window for 10/6 departing the 9th. I have a few questions before I reserve this...

I am hoping to get either a studio or an Inn room. What are the pros/ cons to each? The points are pretty much the same for a studio or an Inn room with an ocean veiw. Get an Ocean View Inn room. 1) view - studios generally don't have a view 2) location. you will be closer to the pool, entry to beach, and dining. 3) you will get two Q beds instead of Q and pullout.

Is there an area or veiw that you recommend requesting? Request full ocean view rather than ocean/pool view (for quiet) and also better view. We request top floor.

What is the beach like? White sand? Shells? (Here is the silly question: Any shark sightings? Jelly fish?) Do I keep the kids in very shallow water? Beach is white sand. There is a rather steep dropoff not too far out once you get in the water, and the possibility for some riptides. Pay attention to the posted signs and flags. There may be a jellyfish here or there, but I don't remember this to be an issue when we were there in July. As to sharks, I would have to do the research, but a lot depends on time of year (migratory and feeding patterns). When I researched sharks for our trip in July, July turned out to be a fairly safe time of year. It is the ocean, however, so you should use common sense. If you see lots of small fish, or lots of fish-eating birds, well...sharks follow the food, kwim? Also, stay out of the water at sunrise and sunset. Shark attacks are more likely to occur at those times - I forget why, though.

Will I be able to rent beach towels? Should I bring one from home? There's a rental place at the entry to the beach that provides resort guests with towels for the beach at no charge.

I have 3 young children (6,4, and 1) Is there a lot for them to do? Are there any excursions that they (the older 2) could participate in? I have read about a kids club. Is it 30.00 per child per day? yikes! Don't know about the kids club. There is a nice community hall with daily activities. I also seem to recall the cm's leading the kids in a game of red light/green light on the croquet lawn.

Do you rec getting any groceries delivered? How remote is this resort to the rest of Vero Beach? Don't know about grocery delivery...You will need a car to get to the rest of Vero Beach. The resort is not in VB proper. There really isn't anything you could walk to, unlike the HH resort.
Thanks to all! TIA!

October's a great time to come.. it's very quiet and peaceful yet the weather is still great.

There is tons of activities for kids - your children are at just the right age. You can call the resort to have them mail you a sample guide of activities throughout the week.

You can get groceries delivered.. just download the form off the DVC website or call ahead.

Your two kids are old enough for the kids club and you got the price right. :) It runs five till eight and includes dinner.

Hope this helps :)

I wouldn't think you'd need day-by-day in October, but better safe than sorry.

Go with the INN room for sure. We've done both two bedrooms and 1brm's at Vero in the past, but our last trip we did an Inn room, and loved it. We even had two kids under five with us. It was great to walk down stairs and have the store and resturants right there. Furthermore the laundry is free and having it right in the building was great - of course this is a good statement if you're considering a studio where there is no washer/dryer. Access to the Green Cabin room was nice as well for quick dinners overlooking the ocean. We typcially eat out when on vacation so not having the full kitchen to us wasn't a big deal.

The beach is great. Very close to the pool. I haven't ever seen Jelly fish. Since my kids are young they don't go very deep into the water anyway.

Having your own towels is nice, but not necessary. They have plenty for your use.

Your kids will love it. My oldest was just about to turn five last time we were there. He loved the water slide, and the mini golf, which is right next to the pool. They have an arcade, and plenty of free stuff as well for kids. I almost forgot, but he loved shuffle board as well.

There is a nice new Publix about a 10 minute drive from the resort. They have almost everything you'd need.

It never hurts to do day by day. I would recommend it.

The Inn room has the advantage if you get an ocean view. If you cannot get an ocean view I would go with the studio.

If you get an in room ask for an ocean facing room. If you get a studio then bldg 14 is closest to the pool and beach access.

The beach is typical brown sand beach, not heavy with shells, it is the ocean and sharks and jellyfish do live in the ocean, but I have never (in 9 years) seen either at VB.

Beach towels are available for free at the access point to the beach, however, they are small thick towels that are good for drying off, but not for lying on.

VB is the best resort for young children... they provide daily activities for kids & adults with the best CMs of all the resorts.

They have a nice pool & Lighthouse spiral waterslide, a REALLY cool water deck area for the real young kids, a hot Jacuzzi, miniature golf, exercise room, ping pong, bike rentals, The Green Cabin Room (bar/restaurant) has 2nd floor covered deck that has a fantastic view of the ocean and is a nice place to relax with your favorite beverage. It also has live entertainment in the evenings. At night they have a campfire / s’more roast (bring the Cutter Advanced to fend off the No-see-ums). You can rent a small catamaran or jet-ski for ocean fun. Across the street they have a lake, picnic tables, nature trail, tennis courts, and basketball courts. Disney built a private tunnel under the road to access this area. And of course they have the ocean and great waves for boogy boarding. Everything from the ocean to the pool to your room is no more than 2 minutes away walking. So it is real easy to break up your day

5 minutes away is Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge and a wildlife education center. Just a few minutes further up the road is Sebastian Inlet State Park were the Indian River meets the ocean. There are many good fishing spots around the inlet, and there are river excursions where you can see dolphins, manatee, and tons of other types of wildlife. About an hour north is Port Canaveral, (where the Magic and Wonder dock), the Kennedy Space Center visitor complex, and Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge with walking and driving tours. 20 minutes south is McKee Botanical Garden (18 acres) with some REALLY cool vegetation and trees. 30 minutes south in Fort Piece is the Manatee Observation and Education Center.

If you will have a car I would recommend getting groceries from the Publix that is about 10 minutes from the resort.

Have a great time :beach:

Wow! Thank you everyone for your answers! I am really looking forward to being at this resort.:)

Is there somewhere where I can find a layout of the resort? I am not sure if I have ever seen one on Deb's site.

How far is the pool from the Inn rooms?

Has anyone ever gotten a Member discount at VB for a Fri or Sat night stay?

Thank you everyone!

~Jean

The pool is about a 60 second walk from the Inn from the lobby exit. The resort is very compact, but they have placed quite a bit in the smallish space.

I just came on to look for info about Vero, and many of my questions were already answered here in this thread! We're looking at going in early January - kids are out of school until January 8th, so we were thinking about Jan. 2nd - 5th. So if I have it figured right, we can book on June 5th if we don't day-by-day (7-months out from departure??). Because that is New Year's week, I'm wondering if it might be sold out.... what do y'all think? From the responses here, I'm thinking definitely doing the Deluxe Inn room (and we'll take Garden if Ocean isn't available).

Anyone know how far it is to Kennedy Space Center from Vero? Thinking of a day - trip while we're there.

I can't post a higher res image, but anyone can pm me your email address and I will send you a high res image that can actually be read.

Also, here is a link to a nice slide show http://www.tagrel.com/Tours/DVC/Vero/VeroSlideShow.shtml

I have on a couple of occasions. Last Labor Day weekend, I had reserved a studio on Saturday night for cash, and actually got upgraded to a 2-bedroom.

You'll love Vero...

Have never tried that week, but VB is not exactly the star spangled celebration kind of place so try it day by day to be safe.

KSC is about an hour away.

Don't want to take the wind out of any sails, but be aware that the temps are not going to allow for ocean swimming and maybe not pool.

I live in Maine so those ocean temps don't scare me...:beach: LOL. We go in the ocean here once the intense pain from the cold leaves our feet....or everything becomes numb. Whichever comes first... lol! ;)

Thanks to the above posters! The map & link are great. The temp chart is so helpful too...

Thank you!

:thumbsup2 Right there with you. I've often been the only one in the ocean because of temps and I stay until DW tells me my lips are turning blue and I have to come out. Only downside is being the slim pickens at meal time. :scared: Just kidding... your more likely to get hit by lightning... or is that a boat...?

Thanks. We live in FL, so we're not especially interested in swimming in the ocean. We've been wanting to go to KSC for a while and DH wanted to go during spring break - but I don't want to spend the $ then to go (we have our big cruise coming up in July), so I told him I'd check points for Vero as we've never been there before and have been wanting to go check out the resort, too. We often spend New Years at the beach (St. George Island), so depending on what availability I can get at Vero, maybe we'll celebrate New Years at a different beach this year! And while we're at Vero, KSC can be a day trip since it won't have to compete for our time at WDW. Guess I need to mark the calendar for when to start calling for day-by-day!

We are going on the 17th - thanks for posting the map!

Are any of the 1BRs located in the Inn or are they all in the separate buildings?

All One Bedrooms are in the Villas, none in the Inns.

BTW - NYE week is not typically busy, so you should be fine. :)
